Just bought a PS3 today! Playing Batman Arkham Asylum now.. it rocks!
chfilipinoApr 16, 2011
PS3 is definitely a great competitor against the Xbox. Their staple games like Gran Turismo really help boost the PS3s sales. However I still feel the Playstation Move hasn't "moved" anyone in comparison to the Kinnect
zook024Apr 16, 2011
I think the reason for the move not moving people like kinect is that sony is not marketing it as a whole new way to play but instead an extra peripheral for select games. It's a nice novelty that can mix up the experience but at the end of the day they are still focused on the classic controller.

Isn't the PS Move and Kinect just a response to the Wii controller? To be fair, the Kinect is pretty cool and I expect future consoles to have similar items - but it seems Nintendo did it first.

Wasn't the Wiimote Controller a response to Eyetoy?
b3owulfApr 16, 2011
Since the remote does not rely on a camera... and is a controller.... no.

The reason it is selling so well has nothing to do with games. It's competing with Bluray players with its new price point. Why pay $200 for a 3D blu ray player when I can put an exta 100, and get all the goodness the PS3 offers, including all kinds of connectivity, and the option of playing 3D games.
I for one use it mainly as a 3D bluray player, and secondarily as a gaming console.
nikowolfApr 16, 2011
that was Sony's plan. they also did that with the ps2 with DVDs. plus it was also great that you didn't have to buy any adapters to render in HD short of buying an HDMI cable. but I also have to disagree that it has nothing to do with games. I think it's is a combination of the games and the Blu-ray that sold the ps3. I bought it for the game console and thought the Blu-ray was a bonus.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Numbers shipped aren't the same as numbers sold. I figure people should know this by now.
abakizApr 16, 2011
Corporation are very good at estimating sales.
shingoexApr 16, 2011
Not when you have fully stocked store shelves...
nikowolfApr 16, 2011
they are never usually fully stocked. i remember when they were always sold out.
shingoexApr 16, 2011
I'm just comparing units shipped to retailers to units actually sold to consumers.
nikowolfApr 16, 2011
yeah i know. i just don't think its a problem getting them off the shelves. last year my brother had his stolen so i sold him mine and went and got a slim. when i went to buy I almost wasn't able to get one cause they were sold out everywhere. I ended up having to get a 250gig ps3. though i know now its not as much of a problem getting one.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Just read the title of the article, and read the subtitle. That's the point of my argument
Shipment totals do not equal sales totals.
nikowolfApr 16, 2011
actually they do. when shipments are being sent to the retailers they are in a sense being bought by the retailers then sell those to the customers.
shingoexApr 16, 2011
"In a sense". This is what's known as prevaricating, or "beating around the bush".
We're talking about consoles purchased by the consumers.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

ok then. let me rephrase that then. when a retailer gets a shipment they are being bought by the retailer. they don't just pay for the one being sold to their customer. the retailer is the customer of the manufacturer and the person that plays the ps3 is the customer to the retailer. also, you are the one talking about just being sold to the customer. not the article.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

True...bu this isn't the 1950s anymore. Companies DON'T order more inventory than they need. That computer, or TV, or whatever, you buy today was likely not sitting on that store shelf a week ago.

I love that I get buried for pointing out a fact. Sorry that you are not Industrial Engineers specializing in inventory control like I am and still think that companies have huge warehouses that they fill to save a few pennies at the cost of much more than that in maintaining that warehouse. Just in Time is not a hard concept to understand.
nikowolfApr 17, 2011
yeah i agree. a lot of people will bury you because you point out that they don't know what they are talking about. especially when they think their opinion is fact.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
nikowolfApr 17, 2011
actually i have a feeling someone is following my comments and blindly burying them haha
nikowolfApr 16, 2011
actually when they are shipped they are considered sold. just like when a drug dealer buys a bunch of drugs whole sale then sells them on the street. same with consumer electronics. when best buy gets a shipment they don't just pay for the one sold to the customer, they pay for the whole shipment unless i can only assume there is a factory defect or something.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

um... why is anyone being buried?
