news.yahoo.com — TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Panasonic Corp warned of a record annual $10.2 billion net loss, joining beleaguered rivals Sony and Sharp in a sea of red ink as they struggle to fix their broken TV businesses and show they have not lost their way. Panasonic's forecast loss of 780 billion yen ($10.2 billion) for the year to March dwarfed expectations, and is almost all due to restructuring charges and writedowns for its Sanyo Electric unit. You don't hear much about them these days. They need to make more of a splash and become relevant again.

agree 100%. they need like a brilliant marketing campaign like the geico gecko. and they need to innovate too instead of letting apple and google do all the work. unless u want a cheap receiver or just cant afford the sony, then toshiba just never pops into ur consiousness.

Sounds like Panasonic needs to create some new opportunities for themselves.

I have not heard much from them lately and I think that is a big chunk of their problem is lack of advertizing.
They really need a good advertizing campaign to reestablish their brand.
I'm talking something like Apple's think different campaign that brought them back from the brink.

I think they lack on marketing. It's difficult to compete these days since a lot of companies launches new technology and electronics with great designs and functions. They should think of greater ideas that would impress today's generation on electronics and technologies.

It's sad — Sanyo was a powerhouse company that helped re-build post-war Japan (Fortune 500 big) — they really played a major role back in the day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanyo They were acquired by Panasonic back in 2009 — and Panasonic is doing pretty badly as well.

It must be very difficult for these large companies to post such high losses.
