I didn't know Myspace was still around!
couragewulfDec 31, 2010
It has a top 50 Alexa rank.
antdudeDec 31, 2010
How about Friendster? :D
Closed AccountJan 1, 2011
So you must not have known that 99.999% of websites were still around, being that MySpace is still a top 60 site.
It is hilarious that people can still make such comments about MySpace on DIGG...after the huge drop that Digg had in the last 4 months.
Someone will write about Digg's last day on MySpace...not the other way around.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I love how I get buried for that.
Newsflash for yo all...Digg has just entered its final year. And before you embarrass yourself by saying "No way! I LOVE IT!" tell me where you think they will get the money to pay the bills. Remember...the investors have already said they are not throwing good money after bad anymore. The handouts are over. And we know they are still not profiable. So, how do you think they will stay up and running?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

What? Without MySpace, can Tila Tequila continue to exist?
ButtonyGeoduckDec 31, 2010
I don't know who even post on it anymore except movie studios, musicians and actors. Thats all that ever shows in my updates.
user500Dec 31, 2010
I don't even have that given I hate those groups.
hipmanDec 31, 2010
What, do you just read books for entertainment?.
smokezzDec 31, 2010
Some do just that... is that so bad?
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
I've learned a great tech solution to that is books on tape while driving to work. Especially when my cd player has a usb thumb drive slot that I can just stick an entire book on cd in a single folder of mp3s.
Closed AccountJan 1, 2011
I tried that on my iPod Shuffle, but every book was like watching Pulp Fiction.
nvidiaryanJan 1, 2011
What?

think about it.
user500Jan 1, 2011
I got that internet thing at my place. I don't need a studio or band telling me what to like or do.
nicoleluDec 31, 2010
Facebook can buy pages of artists...
shroomtimeDec 31, 2010
Myspace still has staff?
NewsMeBackDec 31, 2010
I had no idea they had 1,100 employees
hipmanDec 31, 2010
How many people does it take to run a website?.
NewsMeBackDec 31, 2010
I suppose less than 1,100 :)

Well, when their "big move" this year was to rebrand from MySpace to my_____, they are clearly running out of money and ideas on how to stay relevent
user500Dec 31, 2010
Some assorted thoughts :
Maybe a Beverly Hills home office inst the most cost effective location.
Also after the layoffs the staff will have more room they can clam as "myspace".
Fox could save money by cutting Glenn Beck's chalk budget.
Better give Rupert Murdoch a bailout.
jamespartonDec 31, 2010
Never nice to hear people are losing their jobs, but MySpace is struggling to stay relevant. Their site design is awful with advertising space taking priority over usability.
user500Jan 1, 2011
I don't think they are even trying to be relevant. I suspect there trying to keep there heads low and hoping Rupert Murdoch keeps sending money.
scenicanemiaDec 31, 2010
My sympathy goes out to the, what, four people this affects? They can't have that much staff left.
hipmanDec 31, 2010
Reading is hard.
scenicanemiaDec 31, 2010
So is recognizing when a person is joking, apparently. But I'm sure you're hip to everything else, as your username implies.

I get it. it's because his name is hipman.

When will people get BORED of Facebook and it will tank?
Geocities> myspace> Facebook> ?
icexeDec 31, 2010
Twitter?
danbarkerDec 31, 2010
I don't think Facebook will tank now. Its huge... no one else can offer the "social graph" that facebook can so people wont leave their friends behind on another network.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
riverstyxDec 31, 2010
Another 2 years, maybe 3. It'll happen, the internet is fickle and gets bored easily. Remember that what you say about FB being huge was the same thing said about myspace.
thefirewireJan 1, 2011
That's the same argument I hear every few years about social networks like Facebook. This environment is already a difficult landscape to maintain any kind of stability and sustain loyalty. Obviously that isn't the rule of thumb and there are exceptions to the rule like Google and Wikipedia, but they are so few and far between that it would be hard to find a website in 10 years that everyone still used that was heavily visited today. It's just the nature of the beast. Web history always tends to repeat itself. People made the mistake of investing in it the first go round when the Dot com bubble popped and people, either because of the lack of history or because they are to young to remember always tend to forget about the Internets turbulent past.
geroncoDec 31, 2010
Myspace is still in business? I thought they closed ages ago, I never even hear about them anymore lol
gregorydujuanDec 31, 2010
Now THAT I can digg!
user500Jan 1, 2011
Hurry before digg folds.
danbarkerDec 31, 2010
Yahoo and now this...
antdudeDec 31, 2010
And Digg?
chrisvazquez1Jan 1, 2011
Six words - Firefox plug-in Ad Blocker Plus.
antdudeJan 1, 2011
Uh, I already have ABP but what does blocking ads have to do with layoffs?
chrisvazquez1Jan 1, 2011
My bad, I replied to the wrong person and now Digg won't let me delete the message. FML.
antdudeJan 1, 2011
Haha. Where were you replying to?
chrisvazquez1Jan 1, 2011
@joshloveless Which is the comment under Dan Barker's.
On a related note, I really hope Digg recovers. It has to be one of my favorite websites. Reddit is too messy.
joshlovelessDec 31, 2010
does that mean 50% less ads? If so i'm not going there anymore.
alientwilightDec 31, 2010
wow
riverstyxDec 31, 2010
"but also in international locations."
Oh no, now how will the web-monkeys in India feed their families?
novenatorDec 31, 2010
Facebook better be careful or they will be heading the direction Myspace has.
candlewoodDec 31, 2010
my space too much junk on it

Facebook is next. People like "new & entertaining - hype" RIP MySpace...
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
Can't say this is surprising news.
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
I do have to say that their UI now is pretty much the best it's ever been, but for how little usage it gets now that kind kills most of the point of a SOCIAL network.
serenejenDec 31, 2010
What is with that new logo? MyBlank?

Kevin Rose's response when hearing this news: "Meh...Been there...Done that. Didn't help."
rustycawleyJan 1, 2011
Just a few years ago, MySpace was the No. 1 site on the web. And that's why we shouldn't take Facebook's current dominance so seriously.
bintoJan 1, 2011
Facebook was only popular because it was exclusive. It blew up after that. Now that everyone can use it, it will die off pretty fast, me thinks.
digitaldeadstarJan 1, 2011
Not really surprising. And it won't be surprising when other huge sites fall to the wayside for the next new and popular site. Like someone said, it's the nature of the beast. Also like someone else mentioned, the internet audience is a fickle one. We're like bright, shiny ADD kids and as soon as we see another shiny site, we're all over it.
That being said... I understand sites can get huge and take a lot to maintain. I've dabbled in the field just a touch and know it's not necessarily easy. But so many of these companies get huge and then hire tons and tons of extra people, living it up. The ride doesn't last forever... and most companies should prepare for that by, if possible, keeping their staff minimal. Hurts a bit less in the long run.
survival_sunJan 1, 2011
Their staff should of prepared for this a long time ago.
florin31Jan 1, 2011
Another 2 years, maybe 3. It'll happen, the internet is fickle and gets bored easily.
jnferreeJan 1, 2011
This is the 20/80 rule in Motion. (IOW) 20% of the social media sites will bring 80% of the traffic, leads and sales. My Space R.I.P.
str3amaJan 1, 2011
It's on it's last legs - hopefully they realize the best way to survive is to turn it into a way for musicians to promote themselves. That's where they have potential and an edge for musicians to interact directly with their fans.
markymizzarkJan 2, 2011
MySpace should just give up, there time is over. Facebook is on top now and staying there.
julybuzzportalJan 3, 2011
I've never been open my Myspace account since Facebook became popular...
Before Friendster was one the popular social networking site in Asia, then when I found out Myspace.com, I tried to signed-up. Both Myspace and Friendster were customizable lay-out unlike Facebook. However, Myspace.com and Friendster.com were defeated by Facebook.com.
