well he could always rent his rent home to someone else. And let america pay for hotel rooms or another homes rent in the area and transportation for his secret service. It will just cost more.
what is the problem? The cottage is closest to his own home and note what the article said.
"The Secret Service is required by law to ensure the safety of current and former national leaders and their families."
Unregistered_CowardAug 3, 2011
If the cost was $100000 a year before and is now $200000, is that justified? Biden can rent the dwelling out regardless, it's the cost to the taxpayer that is an issue to me.
killermothAug 2, 2011
This is dumb "controversy", if they rented a neighbor's rental for the same purpose nobody would be complaining.
JOSHINGYOU123 Aug 2, 2011
Thats right. I don't really get this one. The money is going to be spent somewhere anyways...people are just upset that the morality is tax payers money is going into the mans pocket.
look, it's a loophole yes, and hell I would have done it too, but look he's the landlord...when all the bullets fly and totally wreck the home, it's the landlord who has to fix it =P
zipkoAug 2, 2011
So to be clear, the outrage isn't that the Secret Service is paying rent, it's that the money is going to Biden and not some other random landlord?
Unregistered_CowardAug 2, 2011
How much was the Secret Service spending prior to this point. Is the cost significantly more? Biden would obviously be able to rent the property, the issue should be is the additional cost justified.
Beyond that, it's a matter of appearance.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
zipkoAug 2, 2011
It says in the article that they were already paying rent for a nearby house. When Biden's became available they moved.
Unregistered_CowardAug 3, 2011
Is the rent more or less. If the Secret Service cost was X dollars and is now 2X, is that justifiable?
I don't give a rat hoot about Biden making money, it's the cost of the service.
darkmatter911Aug 2, 2011
I believe the "outrage" is that an elected official is financially benefiting from a service that is accorded to him due to his elected position.

The outrage is that a Democrat has done something that is perfectly legal with property that he owns that could, given the right tone, sound like an impropriety.
We will hear about it constantly for a week with calls for his resignation, but it likely won't get very far because it doesn't involve sex. This will be followed by comments from right-wing trolls for years to come that breathlessly link to YouTube videos of the horrible acts of Biden and how he treated the poor, poor Secret Service.
Unregistered_CowardAug 3, 2011
Look very closely at my comment. Take each sentence and read it carefully.
Is the cost significantly more?

Hm? Was I talking to you? No, I wasn't. Because with two minutes of work you could have answered your own damn question.
Biden charges the Secret Service the same as the previous tenent:
http://www.newsytype.com/9584-joe-biden-secret-service-rent/
"The $2,200 the Secret Service pays in rent to Joe Biden each month is the same amount the previous cottage tenant paid before moving out"
Depending on its size and location, $2,200 is a fair price to rent a stand-alone home:
http://www.rentals.com/South-Carolina/Greenville/houses-and-homes-property-type-1z13z0r/
Oh what, great idiot, shall I look up on the internet for you now?
moron.
Unregistered_CowardAug 4, 2011
Wow. Could you have been less intelligent with your reply.
I'll type really slow this time...
>> Is it costing us more now ? <<
Do you need me to come draw you a picture?
Closed AccountAug 4, 2011
No, you don't. Go take friggin' Google classes first:
"Biden is charging the agency the same amount he got from the previous tenant, but the Secret Service is paying $350 more a month than it was for its previous location, Donovan said.
"Logistically and security-wise, this is much better for us," he said.
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2011/08/04/20110804biden-secret-service-pays-rent0804.html#ixzz1U6Z9N3Ih
Now, is there anything else I have to look up for you or are you really desperate to send me crayon pictures?
moron. Doubly so.
Unregistered_CowardAug 4, 2011
So it's costing us more.
Now perhaps if you hadn't wasted time with your incorrect answer we'd have settled the matter in a more cordial manner. But apparently you're the type to get all defensive over any questioning of the current administrations actions.
gregacAug 3, 2011
I can understand the outrage from him getting money off the secret service that are there to protect him. For the sake of the article, and from where he is living, the rent he is charging is a bit steep. However, it could have possible have been the cheapest arrangement they could have made. On the other had I do have a few things against Biden, so I say make him pay for his security sell those places, and have him move to a dilapidated shack, in a ghetto.
fluxAug 3, 2011
if Cheney had done this you liberasl would have s**t your selves, but since it is a good little liberal all is ok, and your even on here trying to explain why it is okComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
laurahoustonAug 3, 2011
and what would your solution be? not have any protection for the Pres and VP? Cheaney has his same secret police protection, it's required by law.

If Cheney had done this I still wouldn't give two s**ts. And if any liberal did give two s**ts I'd think (s)he was overreacting. Just. Like. You.
