We should always check where the money we are donating is actually going. There are just way too many scams out there in times of disasters.

Not yet really.
Luke 21:8-11 (New International Version, ©2011)
8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”
10 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
------
And even if it is true: "do not be frightened"

As tragic and horrible as this disaster is, i think the planet has been doing these things for millions of years and it will not bring on the end of days. As we as a species populate more of the land such disasters will bring greater loss of life.

In the Christchurch earthquake at the end of Feb this year we had fake Red Cross workers and fake EQC ( New Zealand government earthquake inspectors) turn up in our area which is part of the epicentre. Some people in our area chased them off with their hunting rifles, which is a little bit weird as we kiwis are opposed the gun nuts their NRA like values here.
It is shocking what people can do in a time of tragedy.
My message is: if you want to help out, ring a reputable organisation like the Red Cross and ask how you can directly donate to help the victims of this Japanese tragedy.

It takes money to do good in this world and you are always going to have people that want a piece of that charitable pie!
