Last two "American" cars I bought (a Ford and a GM) were both made in Mexico.
My current auto was made in Japan.
blinker1315Oct 20, 2010
No, Germany.
bukowskyOct 20, 2010
Nope.... Japan.
I used to own a Pontiac and a Chevy, but they both broke down ALL THE TIME.

My Japanese car is, but my wife's American car isn't.

WTF? AOL News?
bigpimpin79Oct 20, 2010
This is an ancient practice; meaningless news given meaning by a conspiratorial source to distract and dismay the enemy.

If you think your "American only" profits go only in the U.S., I hate to break it to you, but Ford and GM are MULTINATIONALS, not "American" companies.
But hey, live in your world of ignorance and denial if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

i dont care where the manufacturer is from as long as the cars are assembled in the US and americans are making paychecks from it
you need to find out which vehicles are built in america from different car companies... even ford and gm.. you need to ask

True the big three are international, but they're headquartered in the US so most of the taxes from those profits go to the US government.

No, it isn't!
I wouldn't buy a car put together in the US - the quality simply sucks. I drive a Jaguar, hand built quality that costs more, lasts longer, better build quality and better power with less fuel consumption.
bdbrOct 20, 2010
15 years ago, yeah. Now the top non-luxury brand in terms of quality is Ford. Jaguar did do well in the longer-term reliability, tying with the Buick LaCrosse.

Both cars American companies, American built, mostly American parts. Its not for completely unselfish reasons - when I think about the percentage of my income that goes to taxes, I figure a similar portion will apply to all the work that goes into making these car. I want to support American manufacturing so more people can help foot our tax burden (instead of paying them unemployment). People in other countries get this, but somehow we think we can just keep buying non-American and it won't affect us at all.
nothlitOct 21, 2010
Yep: Hyundai Sonata, made in Alabama.
gkiltzOct 21, 2010
Does it matter?
Most of the parts are imported!
The engineering work on Chevy and Ford is often done in Germany or Australia.

I think the failure and defect of cars is on the assembly line. Its not the fault of the workers. They work hard and are conscious of their work. Its the pressure their under to install components and parts as the car rolls by giving them less time to actually inspect and check what they have just installed. Everything is rushed. But then again, a production line is all about quantity and less quality.
