Laphroaig, that is all I have to say. Irish Scotch Whiskey ftw.
lorem1000Feb 6, 2012
Hell yeah. Enjoying the Laphroaig Triple Wood now. It's more a face punch than the Quarter Cask.

Misleading (although accurate) title.
“If blended Scotch is included in the Scotch figures then one can add a further 6m cases to Scotch sales."
So subtract the sweet sweet nectar of the Gods, aka Johnny Walker, aka my reason for living, along with other blendeds which make up the majority of Scotch, and Irish whiskey comes out ahead 1.7m to 1.4m. All Scotch is still 9m.
Johnny Walker Blue, I'm soaking in it now.

Good man. Personally like gold better when I want to treat myself, blue's just too smooth for me.
lorem1000Feb 6, 2012
Blue's nice, but I'd take a $50 single malt over Blue any day.

I know Jameson considers JW one of it's biggest competitors. So it is a little misleading.

Irish Whiskey is generally cheaper than single malt scotch.
It's just a typical effect during a downturn.

I'm not much of a whiskey drinker -- until six months ago, I'd never touched the stuff. But now I've had shots of Jameson's and I toasted my Dad after his passing by cracking open his Fecking Irish Whiskey and sharing it with the siblings and older nieces and nephews.

Single malt definately an acquired taste, I'd go for Balvenie any day of the week. Got to give it to the Irish, they are good at marketing their booze to the younger drinker

I like Jameson, but there is no contest when it comes to an Islay Scotch. Give me peat and give me smoke!!

Since the article asks, I prefer the ones spelled "whisky."
barackalypseFeb 6, 2012
I hate it when articles do biased comparisons just so they get a contentious title. Why would you compare all Irish whiskey against only single malt Scotch?
TGRHvWGAFFeb 5, 2012
That's just because I've been on a bit of a Patron kick lately. When I flip back over to Johnnie Walker the numbers will right themselves. Not that there's anything wrong with Irish whiskey.
mrscreenwritingFeb 5, 2012
it may have to do with how they re-popularized irish whiskey in 'boardwalk empire'
melthornalFeb 5, 2012
You would think that should would popularize American and Canadian Rye. Templeton, for instance. They drink it in the show all the time. You should try it, if you haven't already. It sort of tastes like Scotch, but it goes down easier.
mrscreenwritingFeb 5, 2012
you are right, canadian club was/is the marketing partner of the show, but i was referring to Nucky travelling to ireland to bring whiskey.
