They should just join the guild if they write.
calgaryjayMar 19, 2011
Your a retard
sanmanMar 19, 2011
why should anyone have to seek membership in some exclusive organization just to be able to write?
next you'll say, "you should just join the guild if you want free speech"
f**k the guild - we can all blog anytime we want to, that's just part of using the internet
"b-but you can't put up that garage sale sign unless you have it made thru the sign-painters guild!"
screw off
novenatorMar 19, 2011
Thanks for the rational response sanman.
IMHO regular bloggers should not join the guild, but when a publication like the HP or Politico gets as big as it is, they are considered media, and should have to abide by certain guidelines, including joining the guild.
Just my opinion, and I honestly havent researched the issue too much, so if you want to *discuss* this further, I'd be happy to.
leathersoleMar 19, 2011
Maybe I'm dense. Why is joining a guild a guideline that members of a trade should have to abide by?
novenatorMar 20, 2011
I think guilds help to protect every member of a trade, just like unions help protect every worker of a certain industry. It allows them to do things united as a single unit rather than as a divided force that is virtually powerless against the corporate profit machine that wants everyone to work harder for less.
leathersoleMar 20, 2011
If the benefits were so great for them, they'd have already voluntarily joined.
sanmanMar 20, 2011
ahh, yes, the "evil corporate profit machine"
novenator, you should join a union for ugly guys, just so that you can leverage some collective bargaining power on your behalf to help you negotiate a date with the "evil opposite sex dating machine collective"
sorry buddy, but employment is a relationship, and those who always seek to find a collective to increase their power - essentially a gang or a pack - are those who feel insecure about their individual personal talents
you sound like a talentless hack, so I'm quite unsurprised by your need to seek out a gang as your crutchComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I thought liberals were pro-union. Pro-guild. Pro-organization.
Make up your minds....don't just change your stance when it suits your needs....that's called flip-flopping....oh wait a sec...my bad...that's in your blood, isn't it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Ah yes. Attack NPR (which is not remotely biased) and Huffpo (which is).
Goebbels law: A nation can only have one source of news (ie propaganda) all others must be eliminated.
mogebierMar 19, 2011
NPR is not remotely biased?
Have you listened to the programming apart from Car Talk?
All things Considered? Not ALL, unless "all" means Love Libs and Hate everything else.
Wait, wait, don't tell me... anything else but how bad everyone but libs are.
The ranting monologues on A Prarie Home CompanionComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
usarugulaMar 19, 2011
Facts that you dislike do not equate bias.
sanmanMar 19, 2011
NPR is extremely slanted to the Left, and that's obvious to anyone who listens to it
HuffPo is also slanted to the Left, which you can tell just by its headline banners
NPR is only less slanted by relative comparison to other left-slanted organizationsComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
roguegeniusMar 19, 2011
Correct, mogebier. Not. Remotely. Biased.
You pointed out car talk, as for all things considered, please. That's called in depth reporting (As opposed to FOX's nine hour 'opinutainment' block). It's not NPR's fault you side can't stand up to scrutiny. Wait, wait don't tell me? Are you serious? A comedy show. Try harder, fool. Besides, when was the last time you saw a funny right winger? It's almost a contradiction in terms. Dennis Miller has sucked since SNL stopped writing his material. The funniest rightest I can think of is PJ O'rourke, and he's neither very funny or very right.
Can't speak for Prairie home companion, don't listen to it. Don't even know if it's still on.
In fact, where do you go for the House Republicans discussion on defunding NPR? Fox? HA! NPR, bitch! The only place you can see it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cyberdactylMar 19, 2011
It is irrelevant if you think NPR is non-biased. NPR is on the verge of losing all federal funding because it has been shown time and time again, they ARE liberally biased. Was Nina Totenberg fired for suggesting Jesse Helms might be struck down with aids because of his political views? But Juan Williams was for his opinion.

You now have top execs, Vivian Schiller and other top employees at NPR jumping ship in the hope that NPR can keep its funding.
LOL good luck.
roguegeniusMar 19, 2011
I love the right wing dream world people like you live in. It's like the bubble isn't even transparent.
They couldn't even get all the house republicans in on this. Do you think it's going to get though the senate? And past Obama? Right. And then they'll probably try again, and fail, and in two years there will be another house election and we will collectively send all these teabagger trolls packing.
I wish my personal income were as secure as NPR's at the moment.
But you enjoy being as close to 'victory' as you are. Cuz this is about as close as you are going to get.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
meedMar 19, 2011
Doesn't matter, after they kicked those people to the curb... I am not reading the huffpo anytime soon.
calgaryjayMar 19, 2011
Huffington post are not writers they are spammers!
dirtyfriesMar 19, 2011
This isn't out of the ordinary either.
The Boston Globe runs a sub-site called YourTown. All the journos on their don't get recognized as full writers either. It's all so the publication doesn't have to pay as much or benefits.
And these pubs wonder why their quality is going down and they're losing readers.
frayedknotjeffMar 19, 2011
I love the Huff, and I know that when I see a comment-story by Alec Baldwin, it's opinion. I know this because I'm smart, unlike those naive who believe a Fox Contributor is telling them real news.
cyberdactylMar 19, 2011
You just negated your whole comment by polarizing HuffPo with FOX when it wasn't the subject being discussed.
Thanks for being so "smart".Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

You're certainly welcome, and thank you. Are there any other "rules" I should know about when giving "my" opinion in an open forum?
dlkerboMar 19, 2011
Wow people like you who think and tell people they are smart is laughable!!! Get your hammer and sickle and go on believing in yourself!! LOL LOL
dash1986Mar 19, 2011
Huffington is a sellout.
ect5150Mar 19, 2011
God forbid she make money from the work she did?
timedalkatMar 19, 2011
This is just semantics. I understand their position PRIOR to raking in all that dough from AOL and obviously those that agreed to write for free did as well. Some of their free bloggers built their notoriety on the site and understood that was all they'd receive for their work.
I imagine the point that they don't pay their writers factored heavily in the negotiations with AOL and they sold the model as is.
However in moving forward, with that much dough on the table, they're going to have to face the fact that it's time to pay contributors, otherwise I'll be reading my news from somewhere else based on principle.
mynameisjoeMar 19, 2011
Judging by the general quality of their articles, I agree.
dionysianslumberMar 19, 2011
Who cares? I haven't read it since they sold out to AOL
SharonnezMar 19, 2011
It's called Semantics and "I'll find any loop hole I can to not pay you what you are asking for." I don't find it shocking.
inajeepMar 19, 2011
Huff lost my interest when they went anti ax and the other mystical mumbo jumbo they push. They are too left for me politically too. Too much spin in the other direction.
vbdonMar 20, 2011
Anyone who has ever read the Huff-n-Puff Post knows that their articles are written by non-writers.
PushWanMar 20, 2011
Yes.
