Steam-age? My HP laptop is 2 years old and has a built-in dial-up modem. They're not as ubiquitous as, say, 10 years ago, but it's not a prehistoric device.
sotoninFeb 7, 2011
They are pretty prehistoric.... i haven't seen a modem on a computer or laptop in much longer than 2 years... in fact i don't believe you, unless you actually specifically requested it be added on. They haven't come with modems for at minimum 5 years, probably longerComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Right, because I'd specifically lie to express my love for modems. Here, I bet Cnet's on it too: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv6500t/4507-3121_7-32451977.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav

There is always a workaround.
rujtuFeb 7, 2011
lol, what?
spreadtruthFeb 6, 2011
Please. So you're telling me that none of the people in Egypt had 56K modems?
mstrdiggFeb 6, 2011
If you lost your broadband right now, how quickly would you be able to get online with a modem? Remember, the dialup ISP would have to be outside of the country since it was blocked. Also remember 1 out of 8 people in egypt have land lines (http://www.middleeastdirectory.com/cs_egypt.htm ), let alone computers with modems and the knowledge to use them.
spreadtruthFeb 6, 2011
Yes, but it's not like they don't have friends in neighboring countries.
But I apologize. I didn't know only 1 in 8 Egyptians had landlines.
Thanks for the heads up.

It isn't crisis of breeding innovation. It's deficiency in understanding of innovation.

The immediacy of Twitter is the quickest communication thus far. I twit as I watch Fox News and I know the news before it's broadcast. Some stories don't even make most other news broadcasts. If compartmentalizing occurs across the entire internet for security purposes, it will defeat the progress of speed on the net. Only compartmentalize Top Secret files.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"The speed with which Amazon and PayPal dropped WikiLeaks should be a wake-up call to anyone who thinks that Cloud Computing services can be trusted to protect the interests of their customers when the government cuts up rough."

I love how people really do think th at as long as they repeat something enough, it becomes a fact.
A PRIVATE COMPAY doesn't want to do business with a site that breaks the law, run by a rapist. Period.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Wow, a woman with CIA ties says that he didn't use a condom when he said he would, and now you think he's a rapist? Do a little research before you slander someone.

"run by a rapist"
It seems that you are one of those believers.
isuzu14bFeb 6, 2011
Wasnt this supposed to be about twitter? Seems to me the whole article was talking about wikileaks. Also, shame on the author for assuming Mannings guilt even though that has not been determined via the judicial system yet.
weirddemonFeb 6, 2011
Skip the first 6 paragraphs if you don't want to read about the author's opinions.
confuciussayFeb 6, 2011
Any protest now is attributed to @twitter . 99% of those people don't even use this short messaging service yet alone heard of it. Egyptians were simply fed up & took to the streets after drawing some inspiration from Tunisia. Its funny how every single event is now claimed to have been influenced by twitter.
peterinjapanFeb 7, 2011
You are a Digger, therefor you hate Twitter. Just as Slashdot users hate Digg. It's part of the circle of life.

The people of Egypt want and deserve to have real Democracy, we all deserve real Democracy Human rights and Freedom.
I hope this process leads to peace in Egypt, so the bloodshed will end.
But every person on the planet should be concerned... This overthrow may unintentionally place a Terrorist organization in power in Egypt and potentially start a major world war starting in the middle east.

just a really brash article

Now if we can just get more computer services to be trusted to protect the interest of customers facing the American regime when it practices fascist tactics against wikileaks.
