They made them young again?
This is really going to kill social security.
addiktionNov 29, 2010
More like prolong the age at which you can get it. "Social Security available when you turn 100!"
lightfallsupNov 29, 2010
Right.
hellahyphyNov 29, 2010
Fascinating and terrifying at the same time.
hipmanNov 29, 2010
how?.
wheelingdude86Nov 29, 2010
find the best pot you can buy, smoke it and think of the implications an ageless society would have...
Closed AccountNov 30, 2010
I can think of one...stupid people would live to haunt us for a VERY, VERY long time. Besides that, the population explosion would exponentially drain the Earth of all resources.
revovisionaryNov 29, 2010
We have just come one step closer to Z-day...
holeechitNov 29, 2010
Now fox news is going to claim its the product of witchcraft.
hipmanNov 29, 2010
What, no other political article to troll?.buzz off.
holeechitDec 1, 2010
WTF. Were you born a dick without a sense of humor or did you go to school for that.
You should change your name from hipman to dips**tman.
hipmanDec 2, 2010
Oh you are so clever.dumbass.
norman619Nov 29, 2010
No only political lemmings like you will make that claim. Oh wait...
holeechitDec 1, 2010
While, your comment was a little more thought out than the previous comment, I will only tell you to get a sense of humor, douche bag.
Of course, if I am missing humor in your comment, I completely take this comment back.

The catch is that they mention that probably it will produce cancer. I would say that we already knew that cancer is –ironically- extremely resilient and “healthy” tissue.

i would like to volunteer please

Reversing to how far back though? Uncontrolled regression is just as bad as aging, so trading one issue for the other isn't the way to go. How about just reversing it to our prime and THEN hitting a cutoff switch. In the meantime I'll settle just for stopping aging, not reversing it outright.
countess666Nov 29, 2010
its not that kind of reversal.
they get the cells to renew themselves again. that means you go back to your prime, and no further.
countess666Nov 29, 2010
weird... but logical as well if you think about it.
you get old because your cells stop renewing themselves. get them to renew themselves again, and a reversal is inevitable.
norman619Nov 29, 2010
Well more like errors start creeping into the regeneration process. Aging is a genetic disorder.
goatmonkey2112Nov 30, 2010
We should be storing everyone's DNA at a young age so that when know exactly what to use to fix the errors.
norman619Nov 29, 2010
This sounds like good news but in reality it is very bad news. This sort of thing should only come after we have changed our view of reproduction rights. Every seems to think having children is their right. In a world where no one dies of old age this can't be the case. The world population would explode otherwise. Accidents and things like cancer alone do not make enough room for the next generation to take their place in society.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
builderbNov 29, 2010
OR we can develop interstellar space travel and spread that cancer - otherwise known as the human race - throughout the universe!
lokcjawNov 29, 2010
Simply Woot!
shadowspawnNov 29, 2010
This was in a really old sci-fi story, that cancer was part (mistakes, really) of the evolutionary step towards longer life. It touched upon quite a few social aspects of a sudden leap of "fixing" cancer patients; those diagnosed with cancer were actually part of the step that went wrong, and by fixing it in their children extended their children's lifespan ten-fold.
norman619Nov 29, 2010
Well most people don't seem to understand that cancer cells are simply immortal cells. Normal cells have a limited number of replications then die. Cancer cells don't die. they lack the limiting factor in normal cells. As long as they get nourishment they will continue to live and replicate. this is why tumors grow and spread so fast. Many researchers feel the secret to immortality lies in the cancer cell.

f**k, now Cher will be around forever.
norman619Nov 29, 2010
Since I don't listen to her music or anything regarding her, it really doesn't matter. I forget she's still alive.
readmymindNov 29, 2010
Get ready for the prophets of supernatural folklore and the Sunday morning pulpit to start hacking away at the thought of living longer. How dare those pragmatic scientists try to turn back the clock! They'll prevent the holy from reaching the pearly gates. People are supposed to die. I can hear it now.
goatmonkey2112Nov 30, 2010
It sounds like they are not quite there yet. Can you imagine what dating would be like if everyone looked like they were 20 years old when they are actually 50, 75, or 100+ years old? Between this kind of research and nanobots that will become part of us, consuming excess fat, clearing arteries, etc., we're going to need some population control. Maybe you should only be allowed to get it if you also get a vasectomy at the same time.

Bring it!
