It might sound dumb at first, but it actually makes sense. If potential customers are going to showrooms and they can't see the vehicle then they might go to the competition and order from them. Since the demos are at dealer lots, GM gets paid for them... so they're not exactly handing them out.

Electric cars in their current form are complete failures. This fad will prove to be colossal waste of money and time. Until the technology completely changes or we discover some alien form of energy, we will be driving gas powered cars. Only pretentious limo liberals will buy the overpriced battery operated cars.

When will GM learn? Ramp up the damned production.
We're tired of padding OPEC/Oil Companies/Wall Street's pockets through overpriced fuel prices. It's time for those bums to get real jobs and quit stealing from the rest of the world.
