Where will the plant be built? hopefully a northern most employment depressed state, Detroit,Mi. would be an excellent location. will there be matching federal funds?
rudegarApr 9, 2011
put it in Mojave

No then there are no communities of americans to hire. The corps would be bringing in foreign labor on work visas, like they do for big ag, timber, mining, drilling, roads, and many other american industries.
I know they had a bunch of stimulus billions and 'almost free' public land- given out to green industry 'start-ups' Last year they had a deadline to 'break ground'...many placed up a shack or fence to 'break ground, so they could keep the federal funds.
They have to have a location in mind...I still think a place like detroit needs these kind of jobs...they better hire american and not more foreign visa work crews.

well without being an expert on American climate but was under the impression that Detroit would not have enough sun vs. more southern places

Its not a power plant location..they will make solar panels to sell. "manufacturer of thin-film solar panels"
spuy767Apr 9, 2011
Hopefully somewhere where it's f**king sunny.
laurahoustonApr 9, 2011

..they will make solar panels to sell. "manufacturer of thin-film solar panels"
There is no reason at all to place a *manufacturer* in a desert location.

Well thanks GE, its the least you could do considering you didn't pay a 1$ into the US tax system last year. This news makes me happy because if GE invests this much the rest of the market will also have to remain competitive. I cant wait for a day where 90% of each homes energy comes from residential wind and solar sources.

Guess they need more tax deductions...
sweetmailerApr 11, 2011
