the moment RFID was accepted by Walmart was the moment I knew almost every major chain will be heading in that direction. This is going to lead to walk-in/walk-out shopping where you bag as you shop and leave by going through an RFID scanner that will automatically ring up your purchases and charge your card. Walmart wants it in every location by 2014.

You may want to read the article next time so you don't comment on something completely different.
And yu point about shoping at Walmart is bulls**t. Walmart has no plans ot put RFID on everything...like packs of gum. So now, you won't be bagging your groceries and checking out on your own.

Idiot... this is EXACTLY what Walmarts wants to do... which came from the CEO's mouth less than a year ago. RFID is here to stay, and the technology is only getting better by the day. What pjleinen said, is EXACTLY what will be happening very soon.
regulayorguy: pjleinen NEVER said anything about Walmart and bulls**t... that is your niave perception. You, kind sir, you educated nimp, you bastardized digg child... need to wake up.

I did read the article - EMV cards use RFID technology to transmit payment data.
My wife's family produces a product that is sold nationally at most major retailers. It's a national brand that is over a hundred years old - so we interact with retail buyers. At a recent retail event Walmart, among other retail chains, made it very clear - they are pushing all products carried in the store to house RFID technology by 2014... gum and all.

RFID doesn't work that good. Metal shopping carts, bottles with liquids, aluminium foil, they all deflect the signal so that more than half of your products don't get recognized. With RFID you still need to scan the products one by one.

If it can be programmed, it can be cracked and it can be cloned.

We've had this technology up here in the Great White North for several years now. Why is the US of A so backwards when it comes to technology. Oh yes and the Blackberry, which everyone has or wants is also Canadian "eh!"

Banks do a lot of innovation to make people sink on debt easily.
