I should hire someone to do my Black Friday shopping.

I've always suspected that some of the "deep discounts" weren't quite so deep.

Surprisingly black friday a lot of companies actually lose money since the majority of things that people do buy is just trying to be the bang for their buck. You see what happened to Circuit City? o_O

I think black friday used to be a lot better, back before Wal-mart came along... back when stores charged a healthy margin. Going from a 40% markup to a break-even price (29% off) looks more dramatic than going from a 15% markup to -5% (17% off).

Nowadays it seems like BF deals fall into three categories:
1. Items that the store could not easily sell at full price (DVDs)
2. Items for which many customers do not know the "correct" price (Eee PC)
3. Items that really are deeply discounted, which are in intentionally short supply (Plasma TVs)

Who cares man?.You're complaining about low margins?.
amaoicanNov 17, 2010
No - I love Wal-mart. Just explaining why BF may not be as exciting to the younger generations as to the older.

Stores have limited quantities of advertised items.

the only thing you need to know is that you are not really saving as much as you think you are.

I never go out on Black Friday the so called deep discounts are only taken of the price after they mark it up. What a rip off.

If your going to do any shopping online, another black friday strategy is to use price alert web sites, like ZingSale.com, where you create "email alerts" for gifts you want to buy, and then you'll get notified as soon as the product goes on sale.
