This is such a crock of s**t, way to go UK; they show more respect for Jihadi terrorists in their courts than they do people like Julian Assange.
biggles1000Feb 24, 2011
It's hardly the publics fault. We were all rooting for Assange and were crushed when we heard. The main problem is the swedish-USA treaty stuff, so the Americans can get to do whatever the f*ck they like with him once he gets extradited to Sweden.
norman619Feb 24, 2011
This should be interesting.
norman619Feb 24, 2011
Jihadi terrorists scare them. That's why.
aforsbergFeb 24, 2011
You have it backwards, my son. A single terrorist can be dealt with with a single bullet. This man has done nothing violent, and, depending on your perspective, nothing bad at all. They're afraid of what he's capable of doing, and are obligated to defend themselves, no matter how dubious their cause.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
norman619Feb 24, 2011
A single terrorist? I guess you haven't been paying much attention.
tao52nycFeb 24, 2011
If there weren't so many "victim disarmament" laws and regs, 9/11 would have turned out VERY differently...
danbarkerFeb 24, 2011
What are you on about?
neosporinFeb 24, 2011
You're actually trying to say they respect terrorists more than Assange? Digg gets so angry when Faux News makes extreme accusations like this, so it's a little hypocritical to hop in their boat, no?
Closed AccountFeb 24, 2011
The trouble is, and I say this as a UK resident, they really do. The govt really does see it that way. Terrorists attack people, Assange is attacking the govt.
neosporinFeb 24, 2011
They are abiding by standard laws and practices, and it's obvious that international relationships were suffering because of Assange.
It may turn out to be a smear campaign, like Assange says, but protocol has to be followed. His status shouldn't grant him immunity to prosecution.
I'm not against Assange and I am glad we have outlets like Wikileaks, but the sooner this trial is done with, the sooner his credibility is secured.

God forbid our govt thinks for itself for a moment. Oh noes, we MUST protect the Anglo-American treaty, we'll all die if the American govt feels upset at us. Doesn't matter what lie is being covered up, or how clearly bulls**t the accusations are. Just keep them happy, if we do that, they'll use occasionally use lube when the butt f**k us.
lucas123Feb 24, 2011
I know. I can't believe they released Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi after only 10 years due to prostate cancer. Unconscionable. Al-Megrahi kills 270 innocent airline passengers, but the UK frees this terrorist on compassionate grounds on August 2009 so he can die with his family and friends. Hey, guess what? He's still alive.
bobosmitorFeb 24, 2011
Everyone got fooled here. Bad move.

Why does it say "WIKILEAKS CONTROVERSY" at the top?!!??!! I really hate MSM. This has NOTHING (at least it shouldn't anyway) to do with Wikileaks. It's about Assange.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Do you really think Interpol red notice warrants are routinely issued for "sex by surprise"?
BoomTakZaagFeb 24, 2011
This is a whiteboard example of democracy on paper; we do know, but we don't want to know
danbarkerFeb 24, 2011
I hate to point out, but this guy is either CIA, MI5 or from the Indian spy service. These files don't just get out there - this is a bogus story designed to make you all look at it and complain that the UK has followed laws.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Hey Dan, check this out man, they upgraded your tinfoil hat.

Thank you kind sir - My tin foil hat was getting old.
momsshizzleFeb 24, 2011
Thank goodness! Get that idiot to face his charges!
joe7845Feb 24, 2011
Listen up. There are *no* charges whatsoever.
ncmusicFeb 24, 2011
What charges?
VitoCodeleoneFeb 24, 2011
As much as I want Assange to be rid of this ridiculous show of Politics and Hypocrisy, it will be very interesting when he releases that password key for the Wikileaks dump files that a lot of people have downloaded.

Personally, I can't wait.

absaysthisFeb 24, 2011
It is quite simple and clear. We all knew what was going to happen eventually and were hoping against it. Something like you are praying for your favorite team to win when you already have realized that they have lost.
jizzliesFeb 24, 2011
They are not going to let him go after all those documents he released:

joe7845Feb 24, 2011
I'm going to assume that's entirely fabricated, unless you produce the original link at the wikileaks site.

i cant wait until the US gets their hands on him
financefrogFeb 24, 2011
If he did commit any sex offenses, then he need to face justice but then again these are all just allegations.
glacierelementFeb 24, 2011
Except he didn't.
ajajadudeFeb 24, 2011
You better call up his lawyers since you have the proof to back up that claim.
glacierelementMar 2, 2011
i have the confidence in the fact that i know the US government is out to get him and that alone is gives me the 51% reasonable suspicion (legally acceptable here) that the allegations are false.
ren1999Feb 25, 2011
..allegations that he didn't use a condom with his girlfriend who says she would still date him -- and by the way -- she also has a CIA boyfriend.

I love how America is immediately blamed. Haven't you stopped to consider that the UK has certain things they don't want known and that Assange does release those things every once in a while? I'd imagine that'd piss off some major players in the UK too. Combine that with the US wanting to kill Assange and I'm sure it was a fairly easy decision for the UK.
glacierelementFeb 24, 2011
The UK only follows the US because of the strong history between the two countries. We all know if that if the UK was more powerful than the US that they would not follow in our footsteps.
ajajadudeFeb 24, 2011
You had me until the bit about the US wanting to kill him. If the US wanted Assange dead, it would have happened a long ass time ago.
mlw4428Feb 24, 2011
Eh...not likely. If Assange were to die in a car wreck tomorrow, how many fingers would point at the US (even if it was a legit accident)?
The US can't easily kill off high-profile people. Especially when everyone knows how much the US really wants a high-profile person to just "disappear."
Instead they'll use whatever political tricks to arm bend Assange into shutting the f**k up.
ajajadudeFeb 24, 2011
Which is my point. The US conceivably CAN kill off someone like Assange (he's not hiding in a cave) if the person was enough of a threat. But, he's not, so there's no point. And the US won't because if anything happens, everybody will point fingers at the US. And, as I said, he's not some mastermind terrorist attempting to literally burn America to the ground.
The sad thing is, anything bad that happens to Assange will immediately be blamed on the US. "Trumped up" charges to a stubbed toe and the conspiracy theorists will assume the US is behind it.
Hell, Assange could live to be 110 years old, die in his sleep due to his heart just giving out and people will think the US killed him. I think everyone puts way too much weight on Assange's threat to countries.
foolishimpFeb 25, 2011
He doesn't threaten countries - he threatens the trumped up little men and women that run them.
He causes embarrassment. We should all just learn the f**k to live with embarrassment and accept that the public will respect an open transparent government - we'll accept mistakes if you stand up and admit them.
But then how will all those little corrupt back room deals happen in the cold scrutiny of day .. eh?
Governments welcome to the information age - you f**kers!

This is horrible news.
Everyone knows what's really going on. The U.S. Pentagon has been after Assange since he leaked the video of U.S. forces in Iraq firing on civilians and killing 2 Reuters journalists. Assange disseminates confidential (not top secret, not even secret) information that was given to him by a man who has spent the last 7 months in solitary confinement awaiting trial. The ensuing media frenzy over the contents of those leaks embarrasses the hell out the U.S. government and many other governments.
The charges of these two women are baseless. What victim of sex crimes throws a party at her flat to honor her alleged attacker, then tweets to her friends that she's with "the world’s coolest smartest people, it’s amazing!"? The answer should be clear - no one. And as joe7845 pointed out above: while Interpol does issue red notices (international pleas for location and extradition) for sex crimes (roughly 5%a year) the issuing of a Red Notice for "sex by surprise" is, as far as I know, unprecedented in Sweden.
http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1/7565-interpols-red-notice-witch-hunt.html
If the UK does not protect Mr. Assange, and extradites him to Sweden, then it is only a matter of time until he is either rotting in Guantanamo, or in a box. Rest assured this is the goal of the United States - to silence Assange and intimidate anyone who supports his agenda. And so again the tale repeats: people who try to hold the governments accountable in this world are vilified and destroyed...
murxFeb 24, 2011
Well, they already have lost - since either Assange is a 'martyr' already for the shady 'rape charges' (compare the legal firepower & amount of bail for any child-sex tourist) - will be a martyr if Sweden gets through with their.... agenda - and even more if the USA at any point touches, arrests - or plays the 'international limbo' game in Guantanamo.
They have lost it - the information and the warfare against 'free' information has already been lost by those 'in power' (as they think of themselves)
hannahparisFeb 24, 2011
I'm betrayed
financefrogFeb 24, 2011
Well @glacierelement, no one knows if he's guilty or innocent except him and his accuser. The trial will establish that. Like @ajajadude said, you don't have any evidence to prove guilt or innocence.
foolishimpFeb 25, 2011
dude, have you read about the two women - neither were pissed with him until they found out he'd slept with both of them, one of them even held a party for him after the alleged 'whatever it is'. Wow! Two women working themselves up into a tizzy over a cheating guy! Hold the press!
Philly_mktgFeb 25, 2011
Assange's lawyers are farcical, saying that Assange could be sent to Guantanamo or be sentenced to death. They are clearly under the sway of his paranoid fantasies.
