i think he might be referring to the fact that apple sued samsung for something to get them to stop selling the galaxy in Australia and Germany.. different reasons, but i think in australia it was patenting the 'look' of the iphone (uh.. yea it was THAT amazing they patented it)

Mostly the fact that China is known for illegally copying basically anything - that there would be any kind of ip there.
The fact that they are made there is pretty funny as well.

If I was Apple I would demand to see those iPads being sold in China. Last I heard China loves Apple products so much someone there created their own apple products all the way down to the store front . It was like 16 fake apple stores.
If something like that happen in the US people would freak out. Damn News media would have a field day.

Apparently, the name was not legally transferred from the chinese company to the company that bought prior to apple. Now the original company is suing for about $1billion and trying to stop the name from being used in china. At this point, apple will appeal the decision and they will eventually have to reach a settlement. This has nothing to do with their manufacturing contracts.
Someone once said; nothing is a problem if you can resolve it by just writing a check. I'm sure they will eventually have to write a check, for a much smaller amount. It's basically just a nuisance lawsuit.

Not at all. That wasn't what I meant or even implied, but Apple currently does a lot of business in China which in turn employs a lot of people. If they shifted manufacturers to another country it would in turn cost China (and if you don't think the Chinese govt doesn't have their hand in all the makers of stuff in China you're out of touch) a lot more than they would get from whatever licensing this other company could get. Oh and China doesn't control Apple either.
One word from the govt and this would go away

You have any concept of the logistical nightmare that would ensue if you tried to move iPad/IPhone/IPod manufacturing outside of China. Not to mention the fact that no facility or company is currently setup / sized to handle such activity.
Never mind that most of the components are sourced from Chinese manufacturers as well.

No more so than when they moved it to China in the first place. Certainly it wouldn't happen overnight, but China is hardly the only country in the world that is prepared to handle large manufacturing orders nor is it the only one where the individual parts could be made. Heck I bet Samsung (Korea) would wet their pants with glee if Apple inquired about moving production to them no matter how many lawsuits there are between them.

Apple needs to grow a set tell the Chinese company that's suing them to GTFO and then tell the Chinese government either protect our IP in your country (good luck given the Chinese counterfeit everything imaginable) or We'll be looking into other options for production and you'll lose our business. If China thinks it can control Apple it's got another thing coming
