So if we go by the few videos he has... Then this is politically motivated? This country has gone crazy.
babywookieJan 8, 2011
What I see there, are the ramblings of an unmedicated schizophrenic. Hard to judge his political beliefs, really. He lists both Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto among his favorite books.
kinserJan 8, 2011
Well yes. Its hard to tell why he was doing it, but his introduction complains about our politicians. The man was crazy, that is a given. One can only guess why he targeted this woman, it was probably opportunity rather than her actual politics.
beerhoundJan 8, 2011
I would speculate that it had little to do with politcs, she is a moderate Democrat and Judge Roll was appointed by Bush, so probably conservative leaning. (I know, that is just an assumption) I think the only political connection is that he chose a high profile target to get maximum attention. Along the same lines as Hinckley shooting Reagan because he was obsessed with Jody Foster and thought it would impress her.
This isn't a political attack in any conventional sense, the dude is just Bat s**t Insane.
yibbutkeenJan 9, 2011
The judge has been a source of controversy. He allowed a case to proceed in which illegals were suing a rancher for stopping them at gunpoint:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/09/16-illegals-sue-arizona-rancher/
however, given the demented rantings of this individual I doubt he had a specific target. An all around tragedy that a bunch of innocents end up dead and hospitalized, compounded by those that want to turn this into some kind of political advantage.
Closed AccountJan 9, 2011
Breaking news is saying that Giffords was the intended target.
technopunditJan 9, 2011
The Judge was a bystander who just happened to stop by to say hello to his friend and was killed at random.
Too bad it wasn't YOU, Beerhead!!
beerhoundJan 9, 2011
@technopundit
Of course the judge was an innocent bystander, so were the other victims. I tried to point out that of the 2 highest profile victims, one was a liberal and one a conservative. It doesn't seem likely that a left OR right wing ideology was what motivated him. The guy is insane, he was following his own troubled ideology and didn't need any outside influence to do this. Exhibit A:
http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/01/08/arizona.shootings.suspect.social/index.html?hpt=T1
WTH was so offensive in that? Unless I've just been successfully trolled, I honestly don't get it.

Except Marx advocates state anarchy. He supports No State. The Communist manifesto has nothing to do with what happened in the soviet union.
If you havent read it, it is very short, only like 40 pages.
http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/classics/manifesto.html
babywookieJan 9, 2011
You are full of s**t. Marxists and socialist were the first groups to be persecuted after Hitler came to power, even before the Jews and homosexuals. Hitler hated Marxism and the USSR with all his guts and thought that it was geometrically opposed to National Socialism/Fascism. Just read Mein Kampf. You obviously haven't read either book/document. Simply being in possession of The Communist Manifesto in Nazi Germany would get you arrested, tortured, imprisoned and possibly killed.

The teaparty seems awfully silent on this, other than for some token responses, why aren't they speaking out against it. WHY AREN' T THEY TELLING THEIR FELLOW MEMBERS TO STOP BEING VIOLENT? They are spending all their time defending themselves from accusation (even though they are guilty). Right wing whackos are so peaceful that they don't believe in fair trials or basic precautions to protect civilians in war. Teabaggers don't believe that all human beings have certain unalienable rights, they don't believe in the sanctity of ALL human life. Most teabagger members support his action .. that's a fact .. listen to talk radio most of them will be out their claiming right wingers are peaceful, and while also saying "she had it coming". The will also try to paint this as the work of a leftist, why would a leftist target a democrat congresswoman who voted in favor of health care reform? Why would he call out the name of and shoot a judge who handed out rulings that the right wing hated? The tea party is trying to paint him as a leftist, when the truth is that he's a typical teabagger.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

-I have not heard a SOUL say anything REMOTELY like, "She had it coming." That's just foul of you.
This congresswoman was a conservative Democrat...a judge appointed by Bush was also killed.
The evidence coming forth points to this guy as a mentally unstable, anarchist conspiracy-theorist type of dude who believed he could control people's thoughts.
But...hey....don't let any of this get in the way of your ranting that the Tea Party is responsible for this....
nullcodesJan 9, 2011
The judge who was murdered ruled in favor of humans .. and for that had been threatened by the teabaggers. The judge, even though appointed by Bush didn't support the teabagging agenda. Stop trying to stomp on this good judge's name by claiming he supports the nefarious teabagger agenda. Why don't you google his name? You know what, you don't know how to use google so here's a link for you: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2009/07/09/20090709threats0709.html
"In February, when U.S. District Judge John Roll presided over a $32 million civil-rights lawsuit filed by illegal immigrants against an Arizona rancher, the Marshals Service was anticipating the fallout. When Roll ruled the case could go forward, Gonzales said talk-radio shows cranked up the controversy and spurred audiences into making threats. In one afternoon, Roll logged more than 200 phone calls. Callers threatened the judge and his family. They posted personal information about Roll online."They said, 'We should kill him. He should be dead,' " Gonzales said."
And the congresswoman who was attacked well she was targeted because she supported health care reform and went up against a tea party candidate. She too had received death threats for it. It's all over the news. Sarah Palin even had a chart up that showed her district within crosshairs.
Of course you will get upset when I say you teabaggers had her in the crosshairs ... but that's exactly the words you guys used:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2538665/posts#comment
And it's amazing that now you're suddenly calling her a leftist when right in those comments one of your fellow teabaggers labeled her a "leftist".
Now you may try to interpret fake myspace entries and all, but one thing that can't be denied is that up until today you people hated her and hated Judge Roll. That uncontrolled hatred is what influenced the supposed fringes within your movements like the neo-teabagger.
To quote the congresswoman's father .. "the whole tea party was her enemy": http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/136787-report-tea-party-giffords-enemy-father-says
The neo-teabagger .. the guy who shot her .. clear hated government, clearly hated Democrats. If he was a leftist, why did he target a democrat .. one who beat a tea party candidate? He's a typical teabagger member.. pro violence with no regard for human life, especially the lives of those they disagree with. So get off your high horse. It is true that there no solid proof that all the anti-government talk from the right is the sole factoring motive. Nor can we say with certain that Palin's crosshair map or Angle's 2nd amendment remedies talk drove this man.
But only a fool would ignore a correlation between this rise in violence and the right's anti-government talk. Especially that of talk radio.
Nor have we seen anyone from the right, as Palin would say, refudiate the violent rhetoric that comes from talk radio and others on the right. Or even refudiate these anti-government acts. Instead the make excuses and try to include those of the left as gun toting wacos.
If you think this was some random attack by some gunman who was off his meds and happen to shoot a Congress woman. Then you are a fool. This was a targeted attack. That was motivated by some anti-government sediment. It might go beyond that of the usual anti-Obama rhetoric and even be in the realm of insane anit-government, it;s not clear yet. But what is clear, there is no place for the violent anti-government rhetoric that comes from the right. I am talking about the crosshair maps, 2nd amendment remedies, blood of tyant talk, etc.

I agree that his statement as a whole was unfounded, but whether this horribly atrocity was politically motivated or not, you people must have known something like this was bound to happen. With people like Palin talking about "reloading instead of retreating" and then putting a cross-hairs on this poor Congresswomen's district, to me, they're inciting this kind of meaningless and wanton destruction. Again, we have no idea whether or not this was politically motivated or not. Sadly, however, I would not be surprised in the least if it was.

That link you sent adds a picture of a bulls eye that wasn't originally there simply to make Daily Kos look bad. That's rather shameful. No one had to edit Palin's graphic; it was shameful all its own.

While I believe the "Empire Striking Back" was more meant as satire than anything, I agree that the "punish our enemies" quote (in the context it was used) in particular was quite out of line by Obama, and is quite disappointing.

I can't f**king tell you how angry this makes me. No one will call out the f**kers on Fox News who incite "second amendment solutions" -- they all have blood on their hands.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Your extreme ignorance and political party fanboy fecal matter makes thinking people angry and Americans look stupid

Although tragic, hopefully this attack will have a silver lining. Maybe it will make the nutbags aware that 'second amendment solutions' just cement your position as a nutbag, they don't make you the one to start a glorious revolution against the supposed socialist who, in your mind, are trying to destroy America.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

All these stupid assumptions trying to pin this guy as a Tea Partyer acting on Palin's call for violence are pissing me off. This guy is clearly very disturbed and we'll probably never fully understand his reasons for committing such senseless violence.
Suggesting that "unusual political tension" possibly lead to this is also pretty far-fetched. Political tension is nothing new. If you've ever read any congressional debates or newspaper articles from the previous 3 centuries or even seen video of the kind of wild near-rioting that happens in houses of parliament around the world, it's obvious things haven't really changed.
I know it's fun to blame the other side to score cheap political points, but really, place the blame where the blame is due.

I know, I said that in the original news post and people lambasted me for it.
The simple fact is, we didn't know who he was, what his motivations were. It was more convenient to take our own prejudices and hatreds and assume he was an instrument in them.
See, you morons. He was more an anarchist and whack, not a Palin-ite. The woman sucks but that's not enough. You people with your mob mentality are no better than the s**t you're speaking against.
