Pretty good article. Could have done without the GOP bashing sprinkled throughout, but I guess that's required at Huffpo.

How about a law that makes companies liable for WTO violations in their supply chain at the disadvantage of their domestic labor markets?

Breaking the death-grip unions have on US manufacturing jobs would help make US made goods more competitive. But since Obama is in bed with the unions in a HUGE way this won't happen anytime soon.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Unions aren't inherently bad and neither are employers. The problem is whomever gets more power, tends to want to get even more power and abuse what power they have. What we need is balance.
I've seen companies screw out workers because they had no unions and I've seen unions screw companies to the point the company went bankrupt.

When they hold a monopoly in an industry or a workplace they sure as hell are. When you can't work at a factory w/o joining the entrenched union there's a problem. You can deny it all you like but the fact of the matter is that unions have forced US manufacturing companies to overpay their workers which have driven up the cost of their products so much they can't even attempt to compete without government intervention. Unions are what destroyed US manufacturing. They are why so many have moved those jobs to other countries.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

why dont you try reading the article. it cites that worker pay is not the big issue, but rather government subsidizing and for some reason americans dont want to be forced to live in dorms on site whom can be woke up at any point during the night and told they have to work because Apple made a new change in its specs and wants it out in time for the scheduled product launch.

The Chinese government subsidizes the auto parts industry 27.5 billion dollars and you blame it on the unions.. I have no idea how to respond to that.
murxFeb 6, 2012
I guess you just read the article half way.
Since it mentions that Germany easily has the upper hand against Chinese (and of course US) automobile industries... because they exactly HAVE unions fill in half of the corporations board of directors.
And even further - how is it possible that the best, most effective, most capitalistic capitalism in the world struggles that much to... do better then all the worse off economies on the planet?
How can China provide subsidies so big and easily?
Maybe, just maybe they don't rely on trickle down and tax-breaks for the 1%, hoping they will use those riches for the benefit of... someone other then themselves?

So your solution is to tie the hands of the businesses to the point that they fail, and then give ownership/control to the unions and then everything will be fine?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Another one who hasn't read the article.
HALF of the control is in the hand of those who just want pure profit.
The OTHER HALF is in control of those 'evil workers' (organized in a union for instance).
This ensures that neither side can completely rip of the other side. Infact it ensures that both sides get *gosh* equal share!
And yes, it works over here in Germany... at least better then in the US.
But sure - you can try to increase the economic dictatorship of the few and hope that will solve your problems, it is your country, go ahead - because if the US goes down the drain so will their military incursions all over the planet reducing...

It will insure failure.

And our bases in Europe that benefit countries like... Germany will be gone. Trust me part of me would like nothing better than to reduce are bases and military in Europe just to see asshats like yourself deal with the coming s**t storm.
My point was that the only reason the system you listed seems to be working better is that we're doing a half way system with unions here who are intentionally f**king productivity. I would agree that either giving unions a reason to care about the company would be better than the current system. But I would also say getting rid of unions all together would also be better.
