We're all super-exited about these changes. Please let us know anything we can do to improve on the new design or anything else!
slappybag9Jan 31, 2011
As you should be, it all looks great
typemoviecastFeb 7, 2011
yes
bossm4nJan 31, 2011
Is there an official answer regarding more categories being added, or subcategories?
lethainJan 31, 2011StaffSubmitter
One might just pop up tomorrow: http://about.digg.com/blog/digg-dialogg-diggcom-ceo-matt-williams
cdurukJan 31, 2011
Oo look at you fancy staff member, having early access to things..oooo...aren't you special?
anomaly100Feb 1, 2011
Tell us everything then that will show him!
Yeah, show fancy pants that you have inside info too;-)
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
Patience is a virtue my friend :P
anomaly100Feb 1, 2011
What is this word, 'patience' you speak of?
bossm4nJan 31, 2011
Yes, I am anticipating that being answered tomorrow, but I was hoping to pry something out of you early. Go ahead, spill it.
laborerFeb 1, 2011
I know this isnt the proper channel. Though, I suppose I dont care.
I think we all realize the power of Digg. Both the users, and the staff.
Given that, why hasnt this made the staff picks?

You are always bustin my balls man lol. Thanks for the GA link though.
tssaloicJan 31, 2011
Looks nice, but the Sponsored Links need to be identified better.
slappybag9Feb 1, 2011
Unless the ad is something you're interested in just easily ignore it.
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
True, but it blends into content a little too well.
danbarkerFeb 1, 2011
That's probably the idea.
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
True, true.
anomaly100Feb 1, 2011
It wouldn't hurt to support the sponsors here on Digg.
Just a thought...
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
Who said I wouldn't. The adverts just need a bit more differentiation. Maybe bold lines between stories and Adverts.
cklein121Feb 1, 2011
Agreed.
killerhamFeb 1, 2011
Put in a better digg meter, one that updates instantly when someone diggs a story rather than having to refresh the page to see if anyone else has dugg the story.
torisutanFeb 1, 2011
I would honestly like the ability to customize the colors in use by the UI of Digg. Blue and White and Green are great and all, but it just clashes terribly with the aesthetic of the rest of my computer, and tbh I'm kind of getting tired of the whole Web 2.0 look now.
You could even just offer a set number of different themes that utilize different colors (black theme, red theme, whatever).
That's my two cents. I like the rest of the changes, it's certainly more "open" feeling and less cluttered.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
conservative_zombieFeb 1, 2011
You color coordinate your web page to your computer?
torisutanFeb 1, 2011
No, but Digg is my homepage and I'd like if it at least didn't look completely out of place with my dark Chrome theme...
I just want a "Dark" theme for Digg, really. If for no other reason than being able to read it better in the dark, which I often do when it's late and I'm failing miserably at falling asleep.
wassamattaFeb 1, 2011
Been there. Try shutting the damned computer off. And no TV in the background either (if you still use one). You will fall asleep. You don't have insomnia. You ain't shuttin' the brain down.
torisutanFeb 1, 2011
I have ADD, and I've tried the whole "No artificial light for an hour before bed", and the less difficult "no electronics an hour before bed", and neither shuts my brain down enough. It sucks, but I've lived with it for years so it's not a problem for me to be awake that late. I just want something with less eye strain for those times, is all.
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
@torisutan I recently discovered this program, http://www.stereopsis.com/flux/ and have found it to be very useful in easing eye strain during the late night hours
torisutanFeb 2, 2011
@sabazou: Thank you! Very helpful.
I'd still like a dark theme though :P
badqatFeb 2, 2011
@sabazou - that would have made for a wonderful staff pick. Too bad it got subbed under v3 and never got any traction.
inajeepFeb 1, 2011
I agree. Skinning the site would be nice but I think their look and feel is supposed to be identifying. I suggest you look into greasemonkey and various plug ins that will modify it for you.
couponscodeFeb 1, 2011
Yes, It's totally great, to me :)
jlmawpFeb 1, 2011
If I hit the "Take me back to the old design" button, will it load Digg v3?
soldier2465Feb 1, 2011
You'd think someone would have made a greasemonkey script for this by now...
nocalguyFeb 2, 2011Staff
Coke --> New Coke --> Classic Coke ... but I like this - this looks like V2. I like the Categories being at the top, but to get the original list of expanded Categories - I assume we'll see the re-appearance of the "down arrow" or drop down box for the Sub-Cats just like the old days.
soldier2465Feb 1, 2011
Can we be allowed to comment on sponsored links like we do with any other article?
superman101Feb 1, 2011
yep, like this guy here: http://digg.com/news/story/don_t_trade_until_you_know_the_basics
skyscapeFeb 1, 2011
I need sub-categories back. Technology category is such a broad link, it is useless. I used to navigate to Technology->Design to narrow the results, now I go to designpump.com instead because Digg has become useless to narrowing down results.
downsetdanaFeb 1, 2011
excited*
killerhamFeb 1, 2011
Also the comment thread is impossible to follow...Sure the indent is nice but then after a while its hard to go back to the original post. I kind of like how reddit does it with an indentation and a line beside the comments to easily follow along the comment thread.
alantocheriFeb 1, 2011
Semi-unrelated to the new design but, can you switch the thumbs down and thumbs up digg counts on a comment. I always read it backwards. Thumbs down first seem to make you concentrate on how many people hate the comment.
killerhamFeb 2, 2011
yes I agree with this
twochoicestomFeb 8, 2011
absolutely this.
casspaJan 31, 2011
Wonderful to see some good change on the site!
chris1234Feb 1, 2011
agreed :-)
hackiewackieJan 31, 2011
Looks great, how about changing the color scheme to blue and green :P
sabazouJan 31, 2011
Done!
darthmeatloafFeb 1, 2011
Bricks will be Shat if this actually happens now...
hackiewackieFeb 1, 2011

Also, Done! as in tomorrow? or soon? :D
Thanks =)
bigtime2Feb 1, 2011
Let's hope this happens.
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
I meant done as in the color scheme is already blue and green, but not like that :(
hackiewackieFeb 1, 2011
Oh okay =)
rickybennettFeb 1, 2011
i thank it needs to be that way that the pic shows
kentoeJan 31, 2011
Looks great, loving the more simple layout. Feels more like the old style.
bigtime2Feb 1, 2011
They're taking us back to v3.
strang0rJan 31, 2011
Looking good!
couragewulfJan 31, 2011
It feels like it gives me more space, which I like, but I still don't like upcoming. Right now if I click on upcoming --> new I see a ton of RSS feed submissions from the same url. Either let me remove these, so I can easily navigate upcoming, or limit publishers to X RSS submissions per day.
taylorwiebeJan 31, 2011
Looking really good!
dfrankzorJan 31, 2011
It looks a lot better now, more polished and clean layout. I still think the My News sections needs A LOT of work, and a major overhaul in how it functions. Overall the update is nice and a good improvement in my book.
superman101Jan 31, 2011
That might just pop up on the Dialogg: http://about.digg.com/blog/digg-dialogg-diggcom-ceo-matt-williams

cxd1207Jan 31, 2011
iPhone App!
nathanloehleinJan 31, 2011
At the top of the site: "Submit a story to Digg..." doesn't line up correctly in chrome 10.0.648.6 (latest dev build)
Leading is really tight on the story summaries, needs some more breathing room IMO.
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
Yes I've noticed that problem in Chrome dev builds but it seems to work fine in release builds. I'll see what I can do
MelHernandezJan 31, 2011
Looks great!
redstringJan 31, 2011
Hm, am still not seeing proper stats on my page at least. When will the historical data be restored?
lethainFeb 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
Some of the stats data is getting cleaned up over the course of the rollout. It'll be there soon.
redstringFeb 1, 2011
Hooray! :)
drex8Feb 1, 2011
And by "historical data" you mean?
blue98camaroFeb 1, 2011
In chrome, there is about 35 px of left padding on the comment box.
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
Which version of Chrome are you on?
blue98camaroFeb 1, 2011
http://i.imgur.com/HjhyC.jpg
I am using Chrome 8.0. Maybe its supposed to look like that and i know nothing about style/design lol.
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
It's because your profile picture is a blue square that has the same blue background-color. That area of padding has your profile picture in it
oatmealFeb 1, 2011
Now there's a design that POPS!

bulk70Feb 1, 2011
Sure, but is it edgy?
umarsajidFeb 1, 2011
The only problem that I have with Digg, is the fact there are not allot of high quality stories these days that are to my interests. I believe that if better content appears on Digg I would come back. The new interface is quite nice.
bigtime2Feb 1, 2011
Start submitting the content that you like. Others will follow.
alanocuFeb 1, 2011
I like it! Nice job!
bobosmitorFeb 1, 2011
So far, looks good.
blue98camaroFeb 1, 2011
Also, is it technical limitation to remove the load more button if there are no more comments? I also just got a TSocket error reading 4 bytes from localhost:20400 while trying to post this.
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011
Cut them some slack...it has only been about 160 days since the new Digg..you think they can fix their errors in such a short time!
breadfredFeb 1, 2011
Ah, our local expert-of-everything has something to say. Let's all listen to His wisdom.
louiebaurFeb 1, 2011
This is a step in the right direction. Removing that navigation from the left side is huge! I am having problems finding a the search box but its looking good so far.
emilyquestionsFeb 1, 2011Staff
Upper right hand corner near the notifications icon and your profile pic - you will see a magnifying glass icon for search! Love to see you + other friends in the Top Diggers Leaderboard :)
louiebaurFeb 1, 2011
Oops I didn't see that. I did see the leaderboard though its nice to see me up there again as well. Now I can continue my pursuit for Mrbabyman's slot. If he doesn't submit anything I should be able to take him down in about 3 years:-)
atomic1fireFeb 1, 2011
The only feature I really miss from digg v3 is subtopics, but that seems gone forever.
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011
I think we can all agree that when Digg comes out with something new..it is ALWAYS a good thing! Right?
kenjuraFeb 1, 2011
When v4 came out, the mobile site was broken for a while and defaulted to the full web version. Will this happen again?
lethainFeb 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
No! The mobile site shouldn't be impacted by things changes. If you do notice any impact, please do let us know.
lethainFeb 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
Sorry for my epic typo here. "...by these changes."
dfrankzorFeb 1, 2011
i noticed that the my news section did not work on the mobile version on my droid.
bossm4nFeb 1, 2011
Have to give you all props on the mobile version once you updated it a few months ago. Very clean and snappy. Full version works pretty damn well on the phone too. Still a bit touchy on the button mapping, but overall works very well.
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011
Any android app being planned for the future?
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
There is one already.
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011
where? there's nothing in the market
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
It's listed on Digg's about page.
ObligedcartonFeb 1, 2011
EPIC I love it!
ltgenpandaFeb 1, 2011
Very nice changes! Love the "Submitted by:" block.
The top topic navigation seems like a hint towards more sub categories coming (optional drop down like before).
cklein121Feb 1, 2011
Looks great! Good goin!
dirtyfriesFeb 1, 2011
Nice...keep listening to the community and it'll go well.
I like the cleaned up look (frankly, it's starting to look very V3...which I'm ok with).
roblawtonFeb 1, 2011
So far... So good!
dannyminickFeb 1, 2011
f**k yeah! Awesome job, Rose!
bigtime2Feb 1, 2011
Was it Rose or the new CEO?
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
It was all of the people listed at the bottom of the blog post :)
bigtime2Feb 1, 2011
I know, I was just being a little mean to the OP. Thanks for responding though.
dannyminickFeb 1, 2011
Not sure why, either. I don't think we've ever met, yet I seem to have offended you in some way.
bigtime2Feb 2, 2011
Because you were either being sarcastic or you were praising Rose for something he didn't do, just because people like to praise him a lot. I was thinking you were praising him for no reason.
dannyminickFeb 2, 2011
Can't make a statement without someone getting butthurt over nothing. f**k off.
bigtime2Feb 2, 2011
You f**k off. I didn't get hurt, it looks like your feelings were hurt, not mine.
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011

davecachiaFeb 1, 2011
Nice.. sounds awesome. Good to hear you guys are still making improvements to Digg (we were let down by 2.0, but seems to be on its way back up!)
fxspec06Feb 1, 2011
I absolutely LOVE the new navigation bar at the top.
utinamFeb 1, 2011
Is there any reason that now the +/- count defaults to showing the actual +/- totals rather than the sum? (so -1/+5 rather than +4) I can still click and change it, but it used to be default, and even if I click it changes just the one comment and no others.... It's annoying :|
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
One thing we heard before the change is that people didn't know that they could see the vote distribution on their comments by clicking (seems like you did know) so we made it visible by default.
But we are listening to your feedback so we'll look into how make that information available to everyone while not cluttering the comments too much.
jarasmenFeb 1, 2011
I liked how it was on v3: clicking on it made the change for all of the comments (though I cannot recall if it was site-wide). Give us choice!
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
Noted.
utinamFeb 1, 2011
Ah. Well, if it's a majority preference, then I can't really argue--but it'd be nice if the click function changed all the comments, or even better: if we were allowed to change it in our settings.
davidtcFeb 1, 2011
Just put it as an option of how you want it seen.
sevin23Feb 2, 2011
Maybe you could make it a personal account option, perhaps under the 'Viewing Digg' tab, where we can choose on how we want it displayed for ourselves... whether to show votes as distributed (-1 / +5), or as a single summed number (+4).
rickybennettFeb 1, 2011
f**k i like it the way it is now
jarasmenFeb 1, 2011
I love this, it's certainly going in the right direction. You should receive t**s (sic).
fxspec06Feb 1, 2011
Ohh man. I just switched to the home page.. *JAW DROPPED*
Great stuff guys, this looks AWESOME
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
Awesome :)
nick217Feb 1, 2011
I LOVE IT. THANK YOU DIGG
but yeah, cannot see the "popular ratio" line just yet.
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
We are still migrating data and running computations on it. It'll be there soon. Keep watching this space, or that rather.

greggz87Feb 1, 2011
I like it. Well done Digg. I agree with the poster below/above me that it is about the content, but a nice user interface is important too. If Digg gets the UI & content right, they're onto a winner.
tomyclikFeb 1, 2011
Digg-sometimes I have had enough....Constantly changes, changes, changes ..
tssaloicFeb 1, 2011
And, that's bad?

lbubenFeb 1, 2011
Any more categories to be added?
micahcFeb 1, 2011
So would this be considered v4.1?
A "Member since..." feature would be cool on the users' profile page. I think it's useful to know how long someone has been a member. Similar to what you find in web forums.
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
Noted.
enantiodromiaFeb 1, 2011
I felt removing the "member since" from the old old version was just giving the trolls a present.
cdurukFeb 2, 2011
OK, just giving you a heads up. This will be showing up in a day or so; probably early wednesday.
micahcFeb 2, 2011
Sweet! You guys are awesome.
michdeFeb 1, 2011
awesome, i have been going crazy trying to figure out wth was my 200th pop :) this will make digg some much more fun again
arbiincFeb 1, 2011
These are all fantastic improvements!
I also noticed that my profile history (diggs, submission, comments, etc...) haven't been transferred since launch of V4. Is there any time estimate when the profiles will reflect the accurate digg counts, submissions, etc...?
