We'll have to see if GM is poised for success. That's something we'll know in time, I suppose.
janincoNov 23, 2010
Well. it's too big to fail, so the government will always be there to give them a hand.
jhw539Nov 24, 2010
Hardly. The US really only needs two major auto manufacturers. It just so happens that GM was in better condition than Chrysler (which will become majority owned by Fiat if they manage to survive).
lightfallsupNov 25, 2010
I wouldn't bet on Chrysler's survival.
luv2luvNov 23, 2010
I think GM is going to rebound very very strong...just my opinion
chattuteltio1983Nov 24, 2010
You are right!
JasmineKennedNov 24, 2010
Yup, I think so.
arschgaudiNov 24, 2010
It's easy to succeed when your given the government backed opportunity to shed all your poor decisions and only keep the profitable ones.
mukokomu3619Nov 24, 2010
yea
bundlehqNov 23, 2010
At least something good came out of the bailout
cybersaurNov 23, 2010
If the GOP were in charge there would be no more GM.
President Obama and the Democrats saved America from the bush Depression.
hipmanNov 24, 2010
You're funny.I would not have missed Gm one bit.Plenty of better options.
3the3dude3Nov 24, 2010
Not true. If GM went through REAL bankruptcy, someone would have purchased the brand and it's assets, forced the unions to renegotiate or get lost and emerged with a sustainable company. The government was the only one that was willing to overpay for them.
There would also be MORE used cars available to those who can't afford to buy new at all. Cash for Clunkers was designed specifically to reduce competition from the used car market and force more people to dealerships.
AlyssaHallNov 24, 2010
whats your point??
hipmanNov 24, 2010
I think he made his point pretty clear. What didn't you understand?.
jhw539Nov 24, 2010
"If GM went through REAL bankruptcy, someone would have purchased the brand and it's assets, forced the unions to renegotiate or get lost and emerged with a sustainable company."
Yeah right. There were so many companies lining up to snap up GM... not.

It was Bush who bailed out the financials, why do people think he wouldn't have bailed out the auto industry? Everyone keeps saying how the Republicans are pro-corporation, so it's not hard to fathom that they would have kept one of the country's biggest corporations alive.
Even on the balance sheet it makes sense. The government avoided the cost of paying unemployment for hundreds of thousands of workers, and instead will be getting income tax from them. GM will continue to be a huge source of corporate tax revenue - they pay billions in taxes every year. Some of that business would have shifted to Ford, but much of it would shift to companies that pay those taxes to some other government.
hillsfarNov 24, 2010
I personally will never buy a GM or Chrysler ever again.
Do you know GM "repaid" its $6.7 billion loan from the government? Yeah, but with some of the $50 billion in TARP money from the government. But they didn't admit it. Instead, they touted the "repayment" in their commercials designed to lie to you. And of course it has the audacity to ask for even MORE billions in federal grants for retooling to build electric vehicles.
Oh yeah, and Ally Bank? Formerly known as GMAC, which didn't just do auto financing for GM vehicles, it did subprime home loans and then needed a bank/TARP bail-out.
Do you know Chrysler's own private capital management (Cerberus) wouldn't bail Chrysler out? But they wanted the government to.
I drive a Ford. Ford is the only one of the "Big 3" American car companies to not get bail-out money..
Boycott the bail-out.

P.S. - GM's auto warranty? Backed by the Federal government. No other auto manufacturer can say that.
hillsfarNov 24, 2010
How The Hell Did GM Pay Back Its Loans "in Full And Ahead of Schedule"? Well, It Didn't.

We get the point man.
viezoofifpi1980Nov 24, 2010
I think it's too big to fail
alquiliru1971Nov 24, 2010
SO, GM's auto warranty?
seratopeNov 24, 2010
GO GM
phphreakNov 24, 2010
Apparently GM sells a lot of cars in China. That may be the only good news about GM.
jqp123Nov 24, 2010
Why the "new" GM isn't exactly poised for success:
1) Management is for the most part the same as the "old" GM that drove the old company into bankruptcy
2) The labor union is the same as the one that played a large part in driving the old company into bankruptcy.
3) The marketplace hasn't changed. There are still too many manufacturers with too much capacity. Take everything GM out of the market and consumers still have lots of choices remaining.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I found this interesting until i realized they completely forgot to mention Pontiac... How accurate can this information be if they managed to leave out a major division of GM?
hypercube33Nov 24, 2010
What happened to pontiac?
