I wish I was actually surprised that an innocuous comment like yours ended up being so controversial.
Man, I don't know why I come here.

You stay classy, Digg Patriots.

He had to wait for Michelle to return from her real vacation on the Spanish coast.
arschgaudiAug 14, 2010
That and the logistics of screening all that water and sea life.
mnocketAug 14, 2010
Tourism along the gulf coast is devastated, not because of oil in the water and on the beaches, but because of the Obama administration and the MSM's hysterical reaction telling everyone how the region was devastated by the worst environmental disaster in history. Fact is they are having trouble finding any oil. Those beaches that did have oil wash ashore have been cleaned. People are now out of work because vacationers have been frightened away and there is a moratorium on drilling. Once again, government's reaction has caused more damage than the problem they were seeking to address.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
soc7Aug 14, 2010
I thought the leaking oil well is what scared people away. Then there wasn't enough attention paid to it by the government, or the media. Now people are staying away because there was too much attention paid to the oil spill by the government and the media? Maybe people are just broke and staying home.
creationismlolAug 14, 2010
lets summarize your argument:
"MSM's hysterical reaction telling everyone how the region was devastated by the worst environmental disaster in history."
"but because of the Obama administration "
"Fact is they are having trouble finding any oil."
You're full of s**t. Cite some credible sources as to how millions of gallons of oil magically disappeared.
So it's the media's fault that the worst US environmental disaster occurred and Obama shouldn't dare create a moratorium to look at what happened.
OBAMA SCREWED US AGAIN!!!!

It's the MSM's fault? Again? You mean there's a news outlet that doesn't say there's a million barrels of oils spewing into the gulf? Wouldn't that be lying? Also, there is no moratorium on drilling. You're a very confused person.

@jaxcs
WOW are you ever ignorant on this topic. All I can do is laugh when you make an asinine comment like "Also, there is no moratorium on drilling.". you are incredibly out of touch with what is happening. Shame on you!
As for the current state of the oil..... "there's a million barrels of oils spewing into the gulf" - NO, there's no oil currently spilling into the gulf. Further, the White House energy adviser Carol Browner said that a new assessment found that about 75 percent of the oil has either been captured, burned off, evaporated or broken down in the Gulf of Mexico. There is no oil remaining on gulf beaches - it's all been cleaned up.
In short, there's no reason for vacationers to stay away from the gulf coast, but they are because of the alarmist pronouncements of ecological disaster from the White House and the MSM. Obama's "vacation" on the gulf coast is a feeble attempt to correct the damage his administration has caused to the tourism industry.

All the Obama family has to do is bless the area with their presence and the economy gets a boost? They should go on tour!
jaxcsAug 14, 2010
Having the president in the area will mean lots of attention to the beaches. If someone see clean beaches, maybe they'll think the beaches have recovered enough to take a vacation.
ummagummas08Aug 14, 2010
Yeah, I can see one family providing a great economic boost to the area.. =/
This isn't creating jobs, fixing a problem, or helping the people that live there
"It’s nice to see the president take the time out of his busy schedule of golf games and campaign fundraisers to clear his conscience and visit Florida for only the second time since the oil spill crisis began"

It amazing how the man despised by liberals is the one they now use to justify their tard's actions.
ummagummas08Aug 16, 2010
When did I say that I wasn't mad about that? I just feel like there are much more pro-active things the president could be doing, such as creating new jobs in that sector and putting the people to work. Not going to the place and expecting people to go there based on the fact that "he's so important".

Oh be reasonable. I actually submitted a story about this, too. Dupe check didn't catch it. He says he's going to swim in the Gulf.
The president DOES have sway over the perceptions of the American people. He talked about NOT going to Vegas and Vegas suffered a loss of revenue from it.
These people have been decimated by 1) the spill 2) the lack of tourists.
My brother is on a vacation headed there right now to see some of the country and eat some shrimp.
Obama going there...and IF he swims in the Gulf will send a message to people who canceled plans or changed plans thinking that the spill would ruin ALL tourism.

hereticoftruthAug 15, 2010
I agree that this arbitrary moratorium without specific conditions was on the dumb side of stupid. However, it would not be right to allow things to be "business as usual". It was business as usual that got us into this predicament in the first place. People SHOULD be allowed to resume work once they prove they are in compliance with moral business practices that protect the public and the environment. Otherwise, they SHOULD NOT be allowed to work in that field.
trumpsAug 15, 2010
The oil companies shouldn't be drilling when they have no proven methods of containing a leak. This all started because the oil company did not have any safety precautions for drilling that deep. Everything was 100% theoretical. I am fully behind the drilling moratorium. Prove that its safe, and they can start drilling again. Its not a hard concept to understand.

Billy Mays here with oxi-clean: gulf oil formula!
hereticoftruthAug 15, 2010
I know Obama is trying to set a good example for others. But in this case it devolves down to "Monkey see, monkey do." I think it is the responsibility of our president to always be honest with the American people. Sure there are things we can safely do on the Gulf coast. But nobody should be saying the fish is safe to eat until it actually IS safe to eat. Besides, we should let that fishery rebound to it's maximum sustainable level as well. It would probably take about the same amount of time. Lets not jump the gun and shoot ourselves in both feet.
trumpsAug 15, 2010
The FDA cleared the fish and shrimp as safe to eat in the gulf.
hereticoftruthAug 16, 2010
Exactly. The FDA can't be trusted. They consistently look the other way whenever agribusinesses would lose money by doing the right thing. They have the morality of tobacco farmers. Farm raised fish are too high in arachidonic acid to be considered safe to eat by their own standards yet nothing is done about it. High fructose corn syrup is falsely advertised as safe as sugar when EVERY biochemist KNOWS it is metabolized differently and it's negative consequences are covered up as nonexistent even though they are very significant. Saying petropollution of seafood doesn't exist is small potatoes for the FDA. But after a while people will think that Gulf seafood NORMALLY tastes that way. Don't forget that dispersant tang either.
frogger4truthAug 15, 2010
he'd help the economy more by tendering his resignation. ;-)
davidnivenAug 15, 2010
So, he flew into the local Air Force base, took a helicopter ride over to the local Navy base (to avoid a 20 minute limo ride and all those protesters), met with business and government officials, is staying in a posh resort near the beach, and played mini-golf with the kiddies.
How has ANY of this helped Florida?
fuzzynyankoAug 15, 2010
