It's common to be charged for things that are free or actually save a seller money:
For example, extra fees to print off tickets at home for an event, even though this costs nothing and probably even saves money by reducing lines at the event.

This was an interesting article although I was not very surprised by the list and I am still amazed that people are still willing to pay these kind of prices.

When saving it is also important to purchase outside or in the market rather ordering same products/items that are available in hotels and bars. They sure do overpriced those items because these are well consumed items too.

monster cables. I worked at radioshack - we bought those for $3-$4 and sold them for $100 - $150.

Things like precut vegetables are charging for convenience. You have to be pretty lazy to pay extra for grated cheese. Though I think that text messages are even higher margin than the figures given. Software also has a very high mark up. The actual costs of the discs and manuals make up a fraction of the overall price. A game like Star Wars The Old Republic cost $200 Million to develop, so while the software might cost cents to deliver to you they need the high margins to cover that development cost. So they need to sell millions of copies to cover the development cost before they make any profit. Though once they have covered those costs they probably have 900% mark up on software.

Now a lot of the mini bars have sensors and charge you as soon as the item is picked up. If you do not want to pay for it, be careful to not move anything including that basket on top of the minibar.
They do put out signs to warn you.
