- kremvax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43When the government detains you because they believe the music you are listening to may be suspicious or subversive, the terrorists have already won. In spades.
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32They won a long, long time ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20This kind of thing makes me want to blow something up.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Nowhere in the article does it mention an iPod
"had the songs stored on an MP3 player"
There are other MP3 players out there besides iPods - Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16My 83 year old grandma uses an ipod, and she can barely use a microwave.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12While the cops were dragging him away he should have yelled "ZEPPELIN RULES!!"
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Last time I went to the airport, I was listening to Yanni. Almost everyone I passed punched me, but I got through the airport checkpoints fine.
This is racial profiling. - bjohnsonwsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10*tries to remember to remove "Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower" from his iPod before he goes to France next week*
- budmademeweiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That's a damn shame. Ever since 9/11, the whole world has been looking way too much into every silly little situation. It's good that the cab driver is looking out, but come on. This kinda reminds me of when critics were saying if your kids play doom and certain other video games, they will grow up to be murders. Just cause you listen to certain types of music doesn't mean you are going to declare war on the world.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Damn you Yanni!!!!
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The terrorists hate our freedom!
They must love us by now. - raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Anyone who denies that they accomplished their goals is living in a cave. They won by 12:00 Noon on 9/11/2001.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm surprised the cab driver was so familiar with the lyrics. A lot of people don't really pay attention to them.
- Sesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Saying just once is enough. We don't need every 2nd ppl who reads the article announcing that the article is a dupe.
You're like the 5th person who either complained that the article is "oh-so-last-year-i-mean-forthnight" or just said dupe. - critic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, and Cat Stevens is also a terrorist. Him and Mr.Rodgers. Ride the Peace Train my brothers.
- dirtDIGGler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He definitely has good taste in music!
- tysonwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Stupid - paranoia took over UK like it did in US...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, this is dumb but I'd place more of the blame on the retarded cab driver who called the cops.
There's so much beurocracy/regulations that they have to follow up even on the retarded calls. - spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Welcome to five days ago: http://www.digg.com/music/If_you_listen_to_Led_Zeppelin_or_The_Clash_you_are_now_a_terrorist_ (also made the front page)
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I bet the guy didn't tip his taxi driver. That's why the guy turned him in...
- CRASSPUNXTEXHTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this was racial profiling it says the person was Indian And anyways what kind of a terrorist has good taste of music and wasn't the clash a pacifist band
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I'm probably gonna get dug down for this but but I agree with you, even fark beat us to this one. and It was the cab driver who alerted airport security, he wasn't walking through the airport singing or anything.
- DoctorShim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, like my subwoofer. Woo!
- milkfat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Antialias
My 83 year old grandma passed the IRS Special Enrollment Examination last year, but that doesn't say anything about airport security staff. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot... - spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, if it's any consolation, this article is buried as well.
- zaren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2At the risk of having the guys in the dark suits come banging on my door asking for my papers, I submit some more recent lyrics that I *might* give someone credit for being concerned about hearing. Written 18 years ago, but just as relevant now as then:
"Seven years of power
The corporation claw
The rich control the government, the media the law
To make some kind of difference
Then everyone must know
Eradicate the fascists, revolution will grow
The system we learn says we're equal under law
But the streets are reality, the weak and poor will fall
Let's tip the power balance and tear down their crown
Educate the masses, We'll burn the White House down
Speak to me the pain you feel
Speak to me the pain you feel
Speak the word (Revolution)
The word is all of us"
-- "Speak", Queensryche
(Blasted song's been in my head ever since this story first made the news...) - lemz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2real shame that wasnt in the states with people having "ill sue you for me spilling my coffe" mentality... i can see a real big law suit for wrongful detention and a few mils in "damages" :)
- threestain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you don't tend to tip so much over here in the UK. Especially as prices are such rip-off anyway.
"Marble Arch to Centre Point, sir? That'll be £20" But then the tube sucks more than death itself. - Burgerman851, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1<Sarcasm>At least Pottersquash her/himself isn't into racial profiling.</Sarcasm>
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I dare anyone to sing along to "Dirty Kuffar" by so salah crew and see if they get stopped in an airport
- CRASSPUNXTEXHTV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When this made it to the hp it got burried
- Quactaur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It's cause most people have realized digg is about getting relevant stories to the frontpage, not about making sure the first person to copy and paste links to an article gets brownie points for being "first"
- MugatuOT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Um, the government "detained" this guy because someone complained that he was acting suspiciosly not because they didn't like his music.
- marmaduke, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7DUPE. And for those that put -diggs on ppl for saying so, for shame. Its our responsiblity to make sure that new and relevent news stay on digg.
http://digg.com/music/If_you_listen_to_Led_Zeppelin_or_The_Clash_you_are_now_a_terrorist_ - CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2...
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Did anyone else think of Jack Black when the article mentined the Immagrant Song?
That scene on School of Rock.. yeah..
Anyway, some people (like myself) don't listen to music for the lyrics, I dont even know half the lyrics of the songs I listen to. I like the music itself, the way the song is structured, the fills and the breaks, the unexpected off-beat note from the drummer. Being a musician I'm more inclined to listen to the music isntead of what the singer is saying. Not that Mr Plant isn't an awesome vocalist. - stevex0r, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6They didn't detain the guy for listening to the clash. Your topic makes it seem like the guys was detained because he chose to listen to a certian type of music. He was detained because he was rambling about a melt down and the people around him where to stupid/paranoid to relize that he was just singing a song
- kerosan41, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6dupe
I love how anybody that says the D word gets their comment buried ^_^ - nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7This is extremely old. I don't know why the article is dated yesterday, but I heard this in the news about a week and a half ago. I started coming to digg instead of slashdot for newer news, not yesterdays crap
- anthony1124, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5"sick of God
sick of flags
i've seen the power of faith."
-Frank Miller - buddyfarr, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1immigrant song is awesome. my brother sings that in karaoke. he is the only one I have ever heard pull that song off perfectly. I on the other hand would have to put me nuts in a vice to get my voice that high and would still pass out from the pain first before I got there....
rock on!!

- WeRDevos, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5It has all the making of urban legend. Clearly there is more to the story.
- Yankees368, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6DUPE
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2But you see, no one would have raised an eyebrow over Atari Teenage Riot.
Zepplin and the Clash, that'll get the feds on you quick.
Lesson learned? Stick with independent music.
:) - clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -21/+7OLD NEWS. Been posted before.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1He should have listened to Cradle of Filth instead...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -29/+12Dupe.
- danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2the question is...does the person checking the baggage really know how to use an iPod?
