- MorpheousMarty, on 05/29/2009, -16/+228I love how a store that sells guns won't carry a CD for its content.
- DirtyVicar, on 05/29/2009, -1/+140If you go to Wal-Mart for your music, you've got bigger problems.
- PacoLugi, on 05/29/2009, -5/+142Good for Wal-Mart and good for Green Day. Both are free to do what they want.
- Nuttmeg, on 05/28/2009, -31/+131***** WALMART
- Dzue, on 05/29/2009, -19/+89Bravo Green Day! I won't buy censored crap from Wall Mart anyway.
- dstz, on 05/29/2009, -3/+68Guns don't kill. CDs do.
- 83457, on 05/29/2009, -4/+68Why haven't they stopped carrying movies with cursing yet?
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/29/2009, -2/+63Even more analogous, a store that sells R rated movies and M rated video games both commonly laced with violence, sex, and profanity won't carry a CD was a few "naughty" words on it. The real irony is that all of these items are found right next to each other in the store. So Wal-Mart is worried you'll be a music CD with some bad words on it, but they have no problem when you turn around and by a movie with the same foul language across the isle? Makes sense.
- Voide, on 05/29/2009, -17/+6790% of the ***** walmart sells is being thrown together by some dying 13 year old in a 3rd world country, and they're worried about some swear words...
- 700c26, on 05/29/2009, -7/+55How did the band that produced 'dookie', a fun album where half the songs were about masturbation, turn into a bunch of whiny emo brats who sing about their lame political opinions?
- mark076h, on 05/29/2009, -18/+63People still buy music?
- letdowntourist, on 05/29/2009, -1/+39No swearing in music. The movies one aisle over... totally different story.
- biobio903, on 05/29/2009, -14/+52Walmart is just saving the world from ***** music.
- tj_walker, on 05/28/2009, -5/+41Like WalMart is the only place one may purchase music. Sod them gits!
= : )K - RiotHeart, on 05/29/2009, -16/+51Publicity stunt. "we are too hardcore for walmart". then follows with all the wanna be rebel/hardcore kids buying it saying "omg they are so hardcore!"
You know how many artists do the same and don't make a big deal out of it? - ShingoEX, on 05/29/2009, -4/+32You cared enough to post in a thread about it.
- STKD, on 05/29/2009, -0/+27And are.
Wait... that negates the story! Argh! - stonebone4, on 05/29/2009, -9/+35Things you can buy at Wal-Mart:
Most Stephen King books (tons of '*****' in all of them)
Guns, Ammo, and "Guns & Ammo"
Midnight Meat Train (one of the most gruesome movies I've ever seen)
Miley Cyrus DVD's and CD's (the horror!)
Beer
Tabloid Magazines
Sugar-filled kids cereals, donuts, tons of other awful food responsible for heart disease
Tobacco
Loritabs, Xanax, and pretty much every other pill imaginable
Sham "weight loss" products - kezia1, on 05/29/2009, -2/+27He made no point of selling them to children, just that they sell weapons that kill people.
But no swearing. - melance, on 05/29/2009, -4/+29I'm not a big Green Day fan but I say more power to them. I haven't bought music at Wal-Mart in over 15 years because of this very policy.
- JDanner3, on 05/29/2009, -2/+25Outstanding point.
- alpha19, on 05/29/2009, -17/+39WalMart can sell what ever the ***** it wants. Whine a bit more Green Day. Huff puffing more useless ***** up people's asses.
- EdCenter, on 05/29/2009, -11/+31I just have, let's see, 1 2 3 4 5, 5 words about Walmart's decision to sell a particular CD (or not): WHO GIVES A FLYING *****?
- bcardarella, on 05/29/2009, -18/+37This is reason enough for me to buy the album.
- chris4404, on 05/29/2009, -1/+19He's just upset because Mario jumped on his head.
- Yaanu, on 05/29/2009, -1/+19You imply that Green Day had good albums, but you insult them by calling them Green GAY. Hurm.
- ericdano, on 05/29/2009, -15/+33Having suffered through the album, Walmart is right. It sucks and it isn't going to sell............
Seriously, the album is really subpar - inactive, on 05/29/2009, -6/+23Walmart has the right not to carry something it does not want to. If you don't like it, shop somewhere else. It's that simple.
And, on the same note, if Green Day doesn't want to change their lyrics, find, but don't expect Walmart to carry the album. That should come as no surprise to Greed Day.
This is just a way to get media hype for their record. It's marketing. - zephc, on 05/29/2009, -8/+24Walmart is a toilet - it's filled with *****
- hcnelson, on 05/29/2009, -1/+16Really? I usually buy albums because I like the music on them not to stick it to the man.
- flip360, on 05/29/2009, -14/+29***** GREEN DAY
- daschupa, on 05/29/2009, -0/+15I guess masturbation lost its fun.
- BootsyGraham, on 05/29/2009, -1/+16WE'LL DO IT LIVE!!!!!!
- ShingoEX, on 05/29/2009, -7/+21They sell R-rated Quentin Tarantino movies, but CDs with offensive language need to be edited.
Logic FAIL - CaptCarrot, on 05/29/2009, -0/+14Translated: I download it for nil.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/29/2009, -0/+14Lot's of stores don't sell Parental Advisory labeled CDs to people under 17...
- rockstar1o9, on 05/29/2009, -2/+15Kurt Cobain felt differently:
>>When 'In Utero' was about to come out, Geffen heard that Wal-Mart would not carry the album unless a different album cover was chosen, because the original included pictures of fetuses. Kurt had designed the artwork, and I assumed he would resist any pressure to change it.
I reassured Kurt that the band was coming off a number-one album and that he could hold firm. Nirvana fans, I assured him, would find the album elsewhere. Kurt calmly but firmly interrupted me and said in his earnest slacker monotone, "Of course I want our records in Wal-Mart. When I was a kid, the only place near where we lived to buy records was a Wal-Mart. One of the reasons I make records is for kids like me." He had no problem creating an alternative cover in order to reach Wal-Mart shoppers.<<
http://www.spinner.com/2008/09/04/kurt-cobains-las ... - Yaanu, on 05/29/2009, -0/+13Misuse of the word "it's" at its finest.
OH SNAP - willster580, on 05/29/2009, -1/+13Green Day sucks. I don't give a ***** what this article says, this is one of their worst albums to date and no self respecting music critic would give this pile of ***** a good review.
- CaptCarrot, on 05/29/2009, -0/+11If you shave down the edges and throw them really hard...
- migitalwarfare, on 05/29/2009, -5/+16No no, they sold out LONG before this ever came up
- RainStreet, on 05/29/2009, -1/+12@jeremymccurdy: Was that sarcasm? Because if it wasn't, what are we supposed to listen to? The same recycled riffs of ***** power chords over and over?
- thecitysleepz, on 05/29/2009, -1/+12I wouldn't buy anything from Walmart if I were you.
- tomd123, on 05/29/2009, -1/+12wallmart sells music?
- petebot, on 05/29/2009, -2/+12I'm still holding a grudge against WalMart from 1995 when I bought the censored version of "Ill Communication." There was no indication on the CD that the music had been altered. So lame.
- marcduke, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10They got rich.....and entitled, apparently.
- metaknite, on 05/29/2009, -11/+20Go Walmart for artisitic sense and not carrying the new Green Day album.
- edwartica, on 05/29/2009, -11/+20There is no reason for me to ever buy a Green Day CD. Damned sellouts.
- JakeW, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9I know ThePirateBay will carry Green Day's new CD, which will definitely hold me until I get down to Target or the music store downtown.
Oh yeah, go ***** yourself, Wal-Mart. - sexybobo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Walmart sells 20% of all cd that get sold. They are the largest distributor of cd's which is why most people bow to them when they ask for something.
