- shadowspawn, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4if you do the math right you can calculate the spacing so each hole has a particular response. Remember the sound waves "bounce" inside of the tube too, makes the compression waves. I made a few using a spare pioneer driver (the other had blown out in my car so I replaced them both) and messed with crossovers, and PVC the sewer guys left after a job around the corner and old grill parts, I guess you can make one for about 50 bucks if you had to buy everything new (not including the propane or tank). I used foil tape around the PVC like he did, I discovered it when this video first came out and *HAD* to do it.
Some things I did: Mess with winamp's equalizer on some songs
used FLAC or real CD's
Made a "poor man's dolby" by connecting the +'s of Left and Right to the speaker
Use 80's techno/prog music - fwertz, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3I tried making one a few years ago after touring the acoustics lab at Penn State. I was moderately successful. No calculations, just blatant ***** around. They had one exactly like this and played Feel Good Inc. on it. Blew my mind. This was all before I realized what was involved in acoustics, I quickly changed my ambitions. Some of the grad students there had some other cool projects like an engineered replica of the Tom & Jerry freezer units which work off of sound. One of them was doing a study relating color theory to acoustic guitar harmonic properties. Uhm, another one had constructed this 4 by 4, 12 foot tall contraption, that if I tried explaining what it did, my face would cave in from the density of the description. One constructed a really long vacuum chamber from pvc and studied frequency change from start to finish.
