- stcmoose32, on 04/14/2008, -1/+54Also, I really hope this gets to the front page. I feel like every story that gets to the front page in Music is either celebrity gossip, RIAA, or web humor. I'd love to see a true creative get a bump by Digg.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -1/+28holy moly this is awesome
- planksconstant, on 04/14/2008, -1/+19it doesn't mean they copied Chopin, it just means they used a similar chord progression, you've got to remember that a lot of songs, if you just play the chords sound exactly the same, its the other things that you put into them that makes it unique.
and personally, i don't think exit music sounds like Chopin. - thealliedhacker, on 04/14/2008, -0/+17I think they mean "Mashup." Also, you can barely hear the Chopin, I think it would sound better if it were mixed a bit more evenly.
- gerryk, on 04/14/2008, -0/+16Mashup is an agglomeration of media... matchup is a misspelled word
- unclemeat, on 04/14/2008, -0/+14I think you mis-interpret. He wasn't saying that they're unoriginal or bad for using the same progression as Chopin, just that using the same progression doesn't make them a better artist. And he's right.
- stcmoose32, on 04/14/2008, -6/+20This arrangement is great. Also, speaks well to Radiohead's prowess in that it can be paired with Chopin so well. The eight voices at the end are just haunting...
- revjustin2, on 04/14/2008, -5/+17if you come up with a 100% original chord progression, let me know.
- Mononuclear, on 04/14/2008, -3/+15using the same chord progression as someone else doesn't show prowess...
- quiznos, on 04/14/2008, -0/+11http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLM
not a rick roll - Wendigo6x3, on 04/14/2008, -0/+11he sounds a lot like the singer from muse.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -1/+11Heck, even Nickleback copy their OWN chord progressions...
- appleseed1234, on 04/14/2008, -0/+9I'm always fascinated by this one-guy-doing-all-the-instruments thing.
- imightbewrong, on 04/14/2008, -2/+10The Radiohead song is Exit Music (For a Film) from the album OK Computer
- theHM, on 04/14/2008, -1/+8Way to read the description on the youtube page.
- dleesgeetar, on 04/14/2008, -3/+10no joke its about time we get a Jack Conte on the front page :)
- Atxguitarist, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7another good video by Jack Conte: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzr32OqGlOA
- johnsweber, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6I just purchased his album from amazon-mp3, i'd like to thank digg (and the submitter) for showing off this guy's talent.
- dumpyhumpy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6I hope you're joking. I bet the Beatles hope that nobody finds out they were a sham too. They just copied Baroque composers.
- ArchiTech, on 04/14/2008, -1/+6Fantastc.
As a HUGE Radiohead fan and a classically trained pianist, I've always felt that Radiohead was tapping into the same musical energy that Chopin generated in the Romantic era.
This artist did a great job of proving that
I suggest Radiohead fans take the time to listen to more of Chopin's piano pieces.
Berceuse (very sweet lullaby)
Fantasie Impromptu (a part of the first movement sounds like Zelda music)
Ballade No.1
Prelude (Raindrop) - (music used for Halo 3 commercial)
Minute Waltz - ngmcs8203, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Matchup? Or mash-up? Can someone explain to me the difference. This is pretty awesome btw.
- PhillyVC, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Awesome. I just bought his album on iTunes.
- slick519, on 04/14/2008, -2/+7i thought his vocals were pretty decent. thom yorke doesnt really have a super set of chords on him either, if looking at vocal talent only. it sounds nice to the ears, and so does conte's... but neither are technically very good.
- jcastillo81, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5This recording is illegal! Throw that man in jail!
- elitistmusician, on 04/14/2008, -1/+6I love Exit Music (For A Film) sooo much.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -3/+7Radiohead is the best!
- ayeroxor, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5They do when you put an acoustic pickup on them and plug them into a distortion box, you ignorant twit. Next time you don't understand how things work, just ask instead of being a presumptuous retard.
- deadsanchez, on 04/15/2008, -1/+5Technically perfect is no fun. Variation and uniqueness is where the creamy stuff is at.
- plup, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5Matt Bellamy.
- ayeroxor, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4Digital recording doesn't make it easier. It just means the equipment takes up less space. All Paul had to do was record on a couple synchro'd 8-track reel-to-reel recorders to get 16 simultaneous tracks. It actually wasn't that uncommon to do. It was just uncommon to have the same guy do everything on each track.
- juniorb, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3Like Rachmaninoff's 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini', Exit Music is a variation on a classical work. In the case of Radiohead, they used Chopin's Prelude No. 4 in E-minor, Op. 28. It's clearly was inspired by Chopin. It doesn't mean they copied him.
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3well as long as its shameless...
- Darrelc, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3I like mashups like this. Especially ones that have two completely different genres mixed into one, this is pretty much the best one I've ever heard - Kosheen & Placebo - Hide The Bitter End ('Hide U' and 'The Bitter End'): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu_CfFeHK5w
- iunex, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3It's Mashup! Matchup is some stupid WWF ***** :D
- mrblister, on 04/14/2008, -2/+5Listen to Paul McCartney's Bowl of Cherries album. He did all of the instruments for every song, twenty years before digital recording...
- dafragsta, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2That was awesome. Very few popular songs use entirely original chord progressions.
- Ch3n3yTh3D1ck, on 04/14/2008, -3/+5it's called a "mashup" you retard
- Thezeppelin62, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Almost sounds more like Muse.
- mrblister, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3not to menioned the choraled achromatic melody at the end. e-spendi-do.
- revjustin2, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Got it. You are indeed correct, unclemeat. Chord progressions are not equal to prowess. II was responding to the almost troll-like, Radiohead-hater vibe I was getting from Mononuclear's comment. There was certainly a lot of subtext there implying that Radiohead did not demonstrate any prowess whatsoever, especially since all they seem to have in common with the Chopin piece is the same chord progression. My response was equally snarky and troll-like, however, so it's not like I was any better. Digg me into oblivion.
- toekneebullard, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Thank you digg. I will now be buying this man's album.
- benguild, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Hehe =D
- deskimo, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2this is definitely not a matter of opinion.
- AmICoolNow, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Thanks, I wasn't sure how he did that.
- deadsanchez, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1128kps is not the entire song. Lame itunes.
- akohut, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2The other ones he's done ***** awesome as well.
- darkein, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Better quality link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X-PRpqj7N4&fmt=18 - DonnieMarco, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Ditto, it's absolutely superb.
- vroom101, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2That's good. Very good.
- sasper, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Also check out some earlier Sufjan Stevens music (Seven Swans, Greetings from Michigan). Most all of the instruments are played just by him, and the music is incredible.
