- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -5/+69.......says Paul as he sits atop his lavish mountain brook mansion.
"I'm sick and tired of making millions when I could be making billions!" sipping his tea he over looks his cars.
"See these 12 exotic cars? I wanted 14 but had to cut back this year due to STEALING music!"
Paul went on to say...
"It is of the utmost concern and responsibility for ISP's to PROTECT our profits and business model" - inactive, on 01/30/2008, -22/+58i gotta say, out of every mainstream music act that has ever been on the charts, U2 is the absolute worst. horrible music for people with ***** musical taste. i don't give a ***** about what their douchebag manager says about anything. ***** U2 and their manager.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -13/+47you had respect for U2?? ha FAG
- Sarki, on 01/30/2008, -12/+46I just lost a lot of respect for U2.

Sorry Bono, but being the biggest turd doesn't give you the authority to say what is true and what will happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! - Kronos6948, on 01/30/2008, -2/+28So you think stealing music is NOT A BIG DEAL, HUH?
Here's Britney Spears. See anything missing? She had to get rid of her Gulfstream 5 and settled for a Gulfstream 4 which doesn't have remote control for it's home theater DVD surround sound system. - wpncyril, on 01/30/2008, -3/+22This shot of Mr McGuinness and Bono says it all ....
http://www.u2station.com/news/archives/4.21.06.jpg - borez, on 01/30/2008, -3/+18What is Bono running out of money or something?
The industry has been ripping off artists for decades. I'm sorry but the shoe is now on the other foot...deal with it.
And yes, I'm a recording artist. - treeflappa, on 01/30/2008, -0/+14Paul McGuiness: Go back to the 80's and stay there.
- Raian, on 01/30/2008, -2/+16"How dare they build multibillion-dollar industries on the back of our content without paying for it-- just as we built our industry off the backs of recording artists without paying for it... we thought of it first, and those evil bastards are copying us!"
- SovereignGFC, on 01/30/2008, -2/+15Wow, they will do and say anything to try to prop up their FAILED business model... Their heads are so far up their asses it just amazes me.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -4/+16Copyright nazis trying to alienate the fans. Plus U2 sucks.
- Purin, on 01/30/2008, -3/+15YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -6/+17they didn't deserve to be supported before this.
- radink360, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12Stupid. It's not the ISPs committing the crime. How about stop suing anyone and figure out how to fit into the changing market
- earthforce1, on 01/30/2008, -0/+11The government does it to me already - except it is a lot more than a dollar.
- slenderdog, on 01/30/2008, -8/+17Dear Mr McGuinness:
Quit moaning and wake up to the reality: music is free. You're not going to change that. Now take that clever brain of yours and figure out how to make money from it instead of trying to put the genie back in the bottle. - radison2, on 01/30/2008, -1/+10I wonder when the electricity companies will get sued. I mean they are letting all this electricity be used for nefarious purposes. It's shameful.
Let's not let natural gas providers off the hook either. Gas stoves are used to make crystal meth every day and nobody seems to care. - scrappyvintage, on 01/30/2008, -3/+11GREAT Foresight!!! Make a law allowing ISP's to decide what can be uploaded and downloaded!! ***** YOU MCGUINNESS, I don't pay for free music bitch!!!!
- enmattp, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8what! does this guy want to make U2 a Metallica v2? Dolt.
- Scheissen, on 01/30/2008, -6/+13Why would you pirate this crap?
- theNazz, on 01/30/2008, -3/+10... and ***** U2!
- carfey, on 01/30/2008, -2/+8Sorry, but downloading music is not stealing. it's copyright infringement that often does not result in any material loss to the owner, since the infringer wouldn't pay for the item in the first place.
- wolferz, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7Which of course you have missed the point entirely. They don't have to settle for millions. They just can't expect to continue making billions the way they have in the past. Music piracy isn't going away. Whether piracy is right or wrong, legal or illegal, is completely irrelevant at this point.
Look at it this way. Using you're own analogy, let's say that some one would be standing outside your work place every single day to take 1 dollar from you're wallet. Except it's not one guy taking one dollar but hundreds of guys blocking loading docks, cutting power lines, and doing other things that cause your company to run more inefficiently thus increasing overhead and thus forcing pay cuts. And it's not just your company but all companies in your industry. Now imagine this had been going on for years. Now imagine also that the people doing this are actually your companies clients and that they feel they have a right to do this. Now imagine that if you manage to fight these people off they will simply be replaced by other people and you will lose a substantial number of clients.
Now that we are dealing with something closer to an apples and apples comparison... You're saying fight them off. Take legal action against the clients. Speak out against corner stones of our economy. SUCCESSFULLY hinder your clients ability to gain access to your products through FAILED attempts to stop them from hurting over head. etc. etc. etc.
Again. Maybe pirating music is illegal. Maybe it is morally wrong. Too bad. It also happens to be extremely convenient and cheep and has only gotten more so since the advent of DRM. The old business model is already dead. Whether what killed it is right or wrong, moral or immoral, legal or illegal, is completely and utterly irrelevant now. The only thing that can be done about it now is try to work around it. Dozens of ideas have been given for how. Artists have even made attempts to explore these methods and some of them have actually found it was the company they "work for" who wouldn't let them. Then there are artists like Metallica and U2 who seem to think like you do. That crying and whining combines with alienating your own clients is going to make file sharing go away.
It wont. The only thing that can make music piracy go away is the destruction of the human race. However, if they want music piracy to return to being something only anti-capitalists and other fringe groups participate in they need to offer something that doesn't cost a penny and is as convenient or more convenient as say... bit torrent. - cjnance, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7Safe Harbor is critical to ensuring net neutrality. Also, doing away with it would only fuel AT&T's desire to monitor all web traffic.
- xXGeechXx, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6Tom Brady's favorite band is U2
- SOS84, on 01/30/2008, -3/+9That is the sound of my collection of U2 CDs being flushed down the proverbial toilet. Too bad, I really like Achtung Baby. Great CD. advocating for the music industry to stop treating its customers like criminals is a noble en devour, but what he is saying is ludicrous as he is advocating for the destruction of an open internet.
- rderveloy, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6Their music is ok and they are popular; however, quite frankly, they flatter themselves thinking there that important. I give Bono props for his philanthropy, but he hurts my ears in Vertigo. I don't know, maybe he wanted to sound like a dying animal or some poor beast giving an obviously painful birth when he sang "hooooooooooooooooow," but it causes me pain whever I hear it.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! - earthforce1, on 01/30/2008, -2/+7My response to him.
F U 2 and his obsolete business model.
I used to love working in the gaslight industry until this newfangled electricity came along and ruined my profit margins. - smartas, on 01/30/2008, -2/+7The U2 manager is a complete, ignorant, ass. Paul McGuinness doesn't understand the first thing about responsibility and liability. He expects the world to fix all his problems for him. If you, the band members, follow this man's train of thought, you're a bunch of idiots, as well.
Quit blaming others for your (the music industry's) failing business model and *innovate*. Find a new way to make money. IMHO, you're all over-paid ***** anyways. The South Park episode "Christian Rock Hard" really says it all. The world isn't your playground. When you stop getting your way, it's not OK to go tell the 'teacher' so they'll come help you out.
***** off, music industry - kylere, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5U2 fans can digg me down, I am not here for your love. The honest fact is that U2 has not been that relevant since the 80's and even then they were only a pop band. They have as much validity on the world stage as Kaye West or the Dixie Chicks. Now, let's add in that this is only their manager, and managers are scumbags by default.
- sroop, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5One. Two. Three. Fourteen!
- AAjax, on 01/30/2008, -5/+10U2, soon to be religated to the nether-world of has-been bands like Metalica. Who even listens to their over-produced crap much less downloads it?
- owenkun, on 01/30/2008, -2/+7Anything that can be said about Bono has already been said, and in a better fashion, by Maddox.
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=11 ... - Sarevok9, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5One more reason for me not to pay for their music....
Then again I think I would rather choke cats than listen to that rubbish - Raian, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5Bono's new DRM specification recommendations:
"you can reach but you can't grab it
you can't hold it control it you can't bag it
you can push but you can't direct it
circulate regulate oh no you cannot connect it" - noisician, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5wow, copyright extension too? what a lot of *****
- jakv5, on 01/30/2008, -5/+9Too little too late!
- luchid, on 01/30/2008, -5/+9They don't deserve to be supported after this.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5WHAT? People actually download U2's music? *****
- Teradoc, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6He looks just as he sounds, a fat-cat in an overly expensive suit
- dbrose67, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5It's a very slippery slope when you start asking / allowing the ISP's to restrict what content flows through their networks....Mr. McGuiness needs to be really think about the long-term implications of what he is suggesting.
- camilos007, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Fag? What are you 12?
- 13thfloor, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5But then they'd have to make money the old fashioned way, by earning it. They would need to play shows and sell t-shirts and other merch and be on the road for long periods of time. Bono wouldn't have as much time to save the world if they did that...
- darienphoenix, on 01/30/2008, -6/+10Insulting U2 does not make you indie and cool.
- lazyfisherman, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5a fat lol cat. someone should "I Can Haz Cheezburger" his ass
- SLuM, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4U2 is a terrible band who the ***** is pirating U2 songs?!
- Raian, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4I don't think that's the argument at all-- I think the argument is: The system was set up to deal with copyright violation, thievery and it works.... McGuinness should stick to selling music, and not arbitrarily change laws to suit his mood or pocket book.
- Bulletbillx, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Trent Reznor is infinitely better than Bono.
