U2 YouTube Concert Attracted 10 Million Streams, 188 Nations

hothardware.com — The live U2 streamed concert over YouTube happened earlier in the week, and the Internet is still alive. Barely, maybe, but it's still humming along. It's being described as the largest concert to ever be streamed over the 'Net and now that the numbers are in, we're even more impressed.

I'm just excited that there's an infrastructure such that things like this can happen. While I'm not a U2 fan, the fact that this broadcast actually went well (from a technical point of view) makes me look forward to what happens in the next few years/decades. Hopefully it'll open the doors for bands I actually like to do it. And so, from that viewpoint (technical, not musical), I'm glad U2 and YouTube did this.

That stage was incredible, and I feel that I have seen the pinnacle of what lighting can be (I work in lasers, ccfls, leds, el wire, micro-controllers, etc). When I got home and watched the saved stream on YouTube and looked at some Flickr picks (including my own) nothing I've seen has been able to capture the immense amount of light in that stadium. You can see the crowd is entirely illuminated, but not the effects of the lights in the air/fog.

    Security was non-existent and crazier than even the Las Vegas show. In the line up to the gate for G.A. ticket holders the barricades got knocked down as they weren't metal and were unsecured. Despite being 520th in line I found myself crunched between people who were around 8,000 (only 2,400 get into the inner circle). Intense and hot, but quite the experience in what a mob can be.

    The concert was amazing and a lifetime experience, it's a good feeling to have gotten to enjoy a presentation so immense up close.

The show is one giant distraction so people forget how crappy they are and how "the edge" really only knows one riff.
