"So, you have yet to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Will your next album be titled 'That's *****!'?" - FreshVegetable0, on 04/08/2009, -1/+58It really is starting to piss me off that Rush has been around for almost 40 years now. 40 YEARS and they still haven't gotten in! even grand master flash is in there! WHAT!?
- JRjJ106, on 04/08/2009, -1/+53Kiss
Def Leppard
Pat Benatar
Genesis
Chicago
Boston
The Doobie Brothers
Rush
The Moody Blues
Cheap Trick - FearlessFreep, on 04/08/2009, -1/+39Dugg for Rush
'Yes' should be in there somewhere, too - krahzee, on 04/08/2009, -2/+34Why is it even called the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame anymore?
Are Al Green, Stevie Wonder, & the Jackson 5 rock? What about Marvin Gaye, Muddy Waters & Louis Armstrong? Nope. The list goes on and on.
Now this year they add Run-D.M.C. Certainly deserving to be in a music hall of fame, but not a rock one. It would be like putting Babe Ruth in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He deserves to be honored, but the setting is all wrong.
They should just rename it the music hall of fame to more closely reflect who it honors. That way genre would not matter anymore. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+34Rush is way beyond rock and roll.
They should be in the Time and Space hall of fame. - WVUDoss, on 04/08/2009, -1/+29Of salesmen!
- m0rn1n6s74r, on 04/08/2009, -1/+28Burried for no Alice Cooper... there would be No Kiss without him...
- bigfatphony19, on 04/08/2009, -3/+27The fact that Deep Purple still isn't in it is such ***** nonsense.
The Rock Hall of fame is ***** - Chewie67, on 04/08/2009, -1/+20I agree with most of the list, and I would add:
Kansas
Journey
Deep Purple
Scorpions - jmj83, on 04/08/2009, -2/+20Rush has to be the biggest snub of all time. Although this is why I love them so much. They have this attitude of yea, we don't give a *****. We know we kick ass and don't need some ***** induction to prove it.
Spirit of Radio FTW! - ElBeh, on 04/08/2009, -1/+19You do realize that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is essentially another RIAA stunt, right?
- FlashBazbo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14They'll be in by 2112.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -5/+18I believe Kiss and Def Leppard were skipped because they were inducted into the Asshat's and Douchebag Hall of Fame, respectively.
The fact they passed on Rush proves they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
Ah well, Rush can just go play a concert in Brazil or Europe for 350 000 people any day of the week. - thebasshacker, on 04/08/2009, -6/+19Dugg for Cheap Trick. Although it fails to mention their work for "That 70's Show".
- nikki2300dk, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12I agree with some on that list but can't believe they left out Stevie Ray Vaughan! He should definitely be in.
- RobotKeaton, on 04/08/2009, -2/+13Billy Joel is still Rock N' Roll to me.
- sjbdallas, on 04/08/2009, -1/+11As a fan, i'm a little annoyed at being compared to a trekkie.
- gtluke, on 04/08/2009, -4/+14Slayer
- gwhardyiv, on 04/08/2009, -0/+10As a trekkie, I'm a little annoyed at being compared to a human.
- Albumen, on 04/08/2009, -0/+9I so agree with this!! YES has been around since the '60's and has a very devoted fanbase. They are also some of the most accomplished musicians in R&R.
- bundwallah, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8Good list. The Scorpions need to be fast tracked! They've been around so long and made killer albums.
I'll add Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, UFO and Michael Schenker to that list too. - norbert88, on 04/08/2009, -1/+9The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke for not including Rush.
- Jagged68, on 04/08/2009, -1/+8Boycott the Hall of Shame until they admit Rush!
- ncapone, on 04/08/2009, -1/+8@jawbreaker
Neither is Run DMC, but we can't always get what we want, can we? - terracottapai, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7They're not on this list either, which is just as dumb.
- lausley, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7Holy CRAP! Could Time have made that article ANY more difficult to read through?
- JAGUART, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7What's really bizarre is that if the Rock Hall had been inducting in the 70's , ALL these bands would have been included.
- AlienHairball, on 04/08/2009, -0/+72012 you say? That's when the world is supposed to end. Coincidence? I think not. ;-)
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Look, I may not care much for Cheap Trick or Rush, but they should be in there. The writer dogs on Def Leppard, but misses the point: there would have been no Hysteria had there not been a Pyromania. Def Lep's best work was pre-Hysteria where they were heavier and not as mainstream.
What is the criteria for being voted into this "hall of fame" anyways? - benderillo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Damn them Doobies and their Chinese Grove!
- Peko, on 04/08/2009, -1/+7If I was to induct only one band on the list - it would be Rush. Bottom 5.
/I don't even really like Rush. But I definitely think they're HoF worthy. - BingoPower, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Wasn't that song Phil Collins as a solo-artist and not with Genesis?
- momsshizzle, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6I dugg this, but the writer makes it sound like they don't like rock-n-roll.
- sacramentalist, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Ignoring Rush is a travesty.
What about Thin Lizzy? - moog, on 04/08/2009, -5/+10Why would Billy Joel not be eligible? Billy Joel is awesome.
- Snoosy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4For a couple years after he dropped out of college. Not really much for Cleveland to brag about.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 04/08/2009, -5/+9Because it's the rock n roll hall of fame... and although Bill Joel makes great music, it's not really rock.
- TalonKrass, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4Cleveland's had more than just a couple successful artists, but that's not why the city got the Hall of Fame. The primary reason is Cleveland's the place the term "Rock & Roll" was coined, by legendary DJ Alan Freed.
- aaronhoffmeyer, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4The Raspberries and Eric Carmen were from Cleveland, and Joe Walsh lived in Cleveland when he starting playing in bands and getting noticed. That's how he ended up in The James Gang, which was/is another band from Cleveland.
Besides, the "suburbs" of the two cities are only 15 miles away from one another, and they are in the same metro area. Saying Akron is not "part of Cleveland" is like saying Santa Monica is not part of Los Angeles. Technically you are right, but ... - verynegative, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4That's bad taste in music, except for Rush.
- du1834, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4I'm not a Billy Joel fan either but he was significant enough for loang enough to deserve entry. His music is more like the older rock of the fifties but it had its place in the 80s (just please not on my playlist).
The real shame is that Rush is one of the more influential bands of Rock and Roll and they are left out. They have some of the most unique music of their era and it only sounds typical now because its been copied so many times. Rush is like the original Star Wars - kids can't appreciate just how cool it is because of all of the copy cats and other movies that were influenced by it since. - MarkusDee, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4***** the RIAA!
- konamicode, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4As a fan...I'm pretty ok with being compared to a trekkie.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4A nominating committee composed of music historians selects names for the Performers category, which are then voted on by roughly 1000 experts, including academics, journalists, producers, and others with music industry experience. Performers receiving the highest number of votes greater than 50% of the votes received are selected for induction.
Lame. How do they determine who has "music industry experience"? Anyone who has been on one album has "music industry experience". - elo91, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4Rush > 75% of the bands in the Rock HoF
- FlashBazbo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3And what a cunning stunt it is!
- rjr5021, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4What about Styx?
- terracottapai, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4Just because you don't know who they are doesn't mean that everybody else doesn't either.
They have a much larger and much more famous body of work, and the members are very well known in their own right. - craigly, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3Rush inspired an entire genre of Rock. I'm guessing they're being snubbed for being Progressive Rock and not Rock and Roll. Is there such a thing as Rock and Roll anymore? All Rock is segmented into separate groups now and barely anyone calls themselves Rock and Roll anymore.
