- Ftown13, on 03/18/2009, -1/+16Like I give a ***** about M.I.A. retiring from live music three times.
- steger, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9#11 Daft Punk - Coachella 2006. Most amazing concert ever.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+8Radiohead Bonnaroo 2006 was one of the greatest things I have ever seen.
- mmittimm, on 03/18/2009, -1/+9Incorrect description. Altamont was NOT one of the best music festival moments. Maybe the worst?
- smackieattk, on 03/18/2009, -2/+9Save yourself from the misery of Time.com's navigation:
Flaming Lips at SXSW — 2006
Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival — 1965
Jimi Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival — 1967
The Who at Woodstock — 1969
The Rolling Stones at Altamont — 1969
U2 at Live Aid — 1985
Woodstock — 1999
Rage Against the Machine at Lollapalooza — 1993
Jay-Z at Glastonbury — 2008
M.I.A. at Bonnaroo — 2008 - Pinkshisno, on 03/18/2009, -1/+8If you are going to mention Live Aid, why not mention Queen's performance?
- aufte, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6I always go see the Flaming Lips, always one hell of a show.
- jcastillo81, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5My personal favorite was Bonnaroo 2006 when I sat in one spot all day and saw Elvis Costello followed by Beck followed by Radiohead. During one of the quieter parts of the Radiohead set, the crowd was nearly silent and throwing THOUSANDS of glow sticks back and forth. One of the closest things to magic that I have experienced.
- seanbro, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5That list is garbage, and spreading it across 10 pages doesn't help. Here's a better top 10 with Daft Punk and all the stuff they forgot, all on one page:
http://embedr.com/playlist/the-best-music-festival ... - Amerok, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5I think you're overusing the word legendary a little bit.
- TheBEST205, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Or Pink Floyd's little reunion performance at the Live 8 thing a few years ago. That rocked ass.
- JackHererUK, on 03/18/2009, -1/+4Radiohead Glastonbury 2003 for me, blew me away.
- blindhammer, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Of all the concerns that have occurred, they picked M.I.A. at Bonnaroo? What about the first Lollapalooza?
- phooldyou, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3You've never seen The Flaming Lips, have you?
- Hardflip, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3Indeed. Especially when Freddie got the crowd going to Radio Ga Ga.
- iny0urbrain, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Agreed.
- mizuhri, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3This wasn't at a festival but my favorite moment is when MTV was doing there spring break shows and had Bush there to perform on the beach. The weather got really bad and was raining sideways. Even though they could of been electrocuted by their own instruments Bush still played glycerine. It was really cool to see them playing and having them pushed around by the wind.
- jeffwmartin, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2If they were going to pick one from Bonnaroo 2008, it should have been either Pearl Jam's almost 3 hour set or My Morning Jacket's almost 4 hour set, in the rain, started around midnight.
- jonmlm, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2prince at coachella 08. come on!
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Reading festival 09 hasn't even happened yet! You mean reading festival 04 when he got bottled. reminds me tickets are out on the 30th and 4 days now till the line up is revealed. ***** yeah!
video of 50 cent getting his arse kicked at reading. no ***** wonder he wears body armour
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWvvF95ju9k - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Stones at Altamont is a BOTTOM 10, not TOP 10 moment.
I'd like to put all of my Day on the Green moments into one great big, shiny "festival" win. Damn! I wish I could remember more of those moments ;-) - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -1/+3Where is Garth Brooks, live at Wal-Mart?
Though I guess technically not a festival. But there was a mass of unwashed people there. - gramophone, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2No 50 Cent getting bottled at Reading Fest '09? He even got a child's paddling pool thrown at him in the course of the mayhem.
- jonmlm, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1huh, i think you're idea of how history made is a little off.
- mmittimm, on 03/18/2009, -2/+3How do you know? Have you been to the future? Didn't think so.
Seems more to me like your issue is with Jay-z and the "Stupid Flaming Lips" than with this list. - TheBEST205, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Meh, Daft Punk puts on a great show, but I prefer Justice and MSTRKRFT better live; they actually make really good mixes for live shows instead of drawing a 4 minute album song out to 20 minutes and having fancy flashing lights.
- jacktheripperr, on 03/18/2009, -2/+3No Zeppelin at all? Meh I say.
- Rikushix, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Flaming Lips - Pemberton 2008
First time I saw them live.
Words cannot describe.
edit: also I'm not even the biggest Jay-Z fan but at Pemberton he was pretty damn awesome. - superdupergome, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1I was at Bonnaroo 2008, and M.I.A. was great but not because she announced it was her last show. She did that right before her last song. The best part was when it started raining that warm, Tennessee rain right before she started playing "Boyz". It was like God was watching the show too. Not mentioning that makes me think the writer wasn't even there.
- doti, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1ditto woodstock 99
- DirtyVicar, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Interestingly Hendrix at Woodstock was at 7 a.m. on Monday morning, the last show of the concert by which time most people had left. Interesting that so many people missed that.
- jonmlm, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2right, because there's nothing to be said for their explanation of each entry?
- jonmlm, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1damn right
- JCEEZ, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Wu-Tang reunion at Rock the Bells 2004. Blew my freakin mind!
- SDM187, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1verrrrrrrrrrry interesting
- danc4498, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Woodstock 99... I was under the impression they ran out of water, not that people cut the water lines. And oppressive heat is an understatement... And the woodstock promoters should have knows bonfires would get started when they handed out candles during the last show. Either way, what a *****!
- pkphil, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1#1 on MY list!
- ikedajd, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1No Daft Punk at Coachella 06??? Whack...that performance changed my life...not exaggerating at all...
- mikelieman, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Time's exposition -- like their list -- sucks.
No "Phil and Friends 4th of July @ GOTV"?
No "Xmas Jam 1 - 20"? - delynnium, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1I'm jealous!
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1The band has been saying that for more than 2 years now. I really hope it happens, but I seriously doubt it will.
- Remy_LeBeau, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Incorrect info in the article, Jimi Hendrix did not close the Monterey Pop Festival, the Mamas and the Papas did.
- delynnium, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1I've heard people say the same thing. Must have been phenomenal. I heard they will release a DVD of that performance soon.
- JoFresh, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0Pete Yorn's "Back and Fourth" in stores now. Don't forget to check out the exclusive acoustic ep http://tinyurl.com/ppc2xu
- gyronic, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1Bonnaroooooooooooo
- g0tistt0t, on 03/18/2009, -2/+2Original Woodstock?
Grateful Dead performing at the Great Pyramids during a Lunar eclipse?
And who the hell is MIA and who the hell cares?
Dear Time Magazine, stop writing about music - SneakyNinja, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1I couldn't agree more.
I buried it. - bangalter, on 03/19/2009, -1/+0Having seen Daft Punk in 07 and both MSTRKRFT and Justice twice, I wholeheartedly disagree.
- Logicwax, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1No way. TOOL at bonnaroo 2007!
