- ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+88I hear that Ashley Simpson's concerts sound just like the CD too.
- unclebobscircus, on 10/12/2007, -35/+86There's a reason that the Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon have been relegated to the dustbin of history - they ***** blow ass.
- TheSwagger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Any and every list of most important 90's bands must include Faith No More. Faith No More have been ripped off more in the past 15 years than any band of their day. I remember a friend of mine standing in disbelief when I told him "The Real Thing" was released in 1990. It still sounds fresh. Go pick up FNM's "The Real Thing" if you want to experience greatness.
- Eldorian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Our Lady Peace, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Sound Garden, Nine Inch Nails, Offspring, Rage Against the Machine...
Just to name a few. Did you even live in the decade? - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28This is why we can't have nice things!
- SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30Nirvana is like the LEAST forgotten band of the 90's, *****.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Site is getting dugg'd:
Let’s face it; the 90’s rocked, and I mean that literally. After grunge got big in the early years, many bands came into the spotlight and then vanished by the end of the decade. They may have not been the greatest band in the world, but they gave us some great songs.
Sure, bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Stone Temple Pilots will always be remembered for the era, but many other band populated the airwaves as well. Bands like Live, Oasis, Jane’s Addiction, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers still get some credit they deserve. But what of the others?
If you were like me and you were a young kid, you’ll never forget these hits. Here’s to some of the best rock of the 1990’s.
10. Tonic
Tonic didn’t make a splash until later in the 1990’s; they would produce two big hits with “Open Up Your Eyes” and probably their most popular song, “If You Could Only See.” They would close the decade out in 1999 with the song “You Wanted More.”
9. Vertical Horizon
That same year another band would show up to provide a few hits to the post-grunge era. Vertical Horizon would pony up the hits “Everything You Want”, “You’re A God”, and “Grey Sky Morning” before disappearing into rock folklore. It should be noted that the band enjoyed critical success even before making it big, and many have never heard their earlier works “There and Back Again” and “Running on Ice”, the latter featuring the drums of Carter Beauford of Dave Matthews Band fame.
8. Sponge
One of my favorite three hit wonder bands of the 90’s, Sponge soaked up the airwaves with the hits “Molly”, “Plowed”, and “Have You Seen Mary”.
7. Soul Asylum
Soul Asylum managed to put together a pretty decent catalog of music including the hits “Black Gold”, “Somebody to Shove”, “Misery”, and their most memorable song, “Runaway Train”. They recently hit the waves with their new single “Stand Up and Be Strong”.
6. Collective Soul
Collective Soul shouldn’t be forgotten; they’ve managed to keep producing solid hits ’till this day. They did make a splash during the early ’90s with songs like “Gel”, “December”, “Shine”, and “The World I Know”.
5. Better than Ezra
Better Than Ezra made a name for it self in 1994 with the hits “In the Blood” and the ever popular “Good”. They would go on to produce hits throughout the 1990’s including songs like “Desperately Wanting” and the hit “Extra Ordinary” in 2001. Their last album, Before the Robots, was released in 2005.
4. Candlebox
Who could forget Candlebox? The band was wildly successful in 1994 with the hits “You” and “Far Behind” off their self titled album, and would only go on to record two more albums (”Lucy” and “Happy Pills”) before disappearing for a while. Word on the street is that the band is back together and set to release an album sometime this year.
3. Silverchair
While many have forgotten about Australian rockers Silverchair, their true fans have not, as Silverchair have gone on to continue to make critically acclaimed album after album, and are set to release “Young Modern” in April. Many remember them from the hit “Tomorrow” which was released in 1995 while the band was still in high school.
2. Toad the Wet Sprocket
While having numerous hits in the early ’90’s, everybody throws their hands up when they hear the name “Toad the Wet Sprocket”. Then they’re reminded of the hits “All I Want”, “Somethings Always Wrong”, “Good Intentions”, “Fall Down”, and “Walk on the Ocean”. Like many of these bands, they are back together and touring, so you still have a chance to check them out.
1. Gin Blossoms
“Hey Jealousy”, “Allison Road”, “Until I Fall Away”, “Found Out About You”, “‘Follow You Down”, and “Till I Hear It From You”; who could ever forget the Gin Blossoms? They’ve been on the road for the past year promoting their latest album, “Major Lodge Victory”.
Hope you have enjoyed this blast from the past. The 90’s may be remembered for a lot of things, but for this blogger, the memories will always be about the music. - cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The site is down - was Faith No More on the list?
They're hardly forgotten. Perhaps not lot of of the kids right now have heard too much of them but FNM was a really amazing band and any FNM fan will always BE an FNM fan. Anyone who thinks they're a forgotten band probably never really listened to any of the music.
My favorite album was Angel Dust, but I really liked King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime as well. - seanherman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27Tonic? Vertical Horizon? Gin Blossoms? Soul Asylum? A lot of these bands were forgotten because they're forgettable. Sure, they put together a few hits, but their sound is overwhelmingly generic, and nothing a million other bands couldn't produce (and have). Collective Soul might have something going for them, but not much. I still like "Shine."
- SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Mike Patton FTW.
- grouchyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@orp2000
He's allowed to have an opinion without ever having picked up a musical instrument.
Otherwise I can't bitch about my favorite baseball team because I never played in the majors... or I'm not allowed to say a movie sucks because my home movies didn't make it to Hollywood. - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I'll never understand why people even bother to bash bands. Everyone has different tastes. If something sucks to you, it may not suck to others. That's like saying "Chocolate sucks. Chocolate sucked in the early 80's and it still sucks now!"
I think you should read this article: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/305247_students27.html - Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Looks like the mirror forgot them too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Blind Melon
- appetite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You should go write for Rolling Stone or some other place where I won't face a risk of reading it.
- Heretic121, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Hey they ain't got nothing on The Butthole Surfers... They recently had a song on Guitar Hero 2 on both the PS2 and XBOX360...
eat that you stupid list... do some damned research!!! - 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14everytime i hear a ludacris/fergie/gwen stefani song.. i want to choke the life out of the person listening to it..
- UglyShirts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Better Than Ezra was a punchline. Their one questionable 'hit' featured the tremendously insightful hook "Livin' with you -- WAAA HAAA" and revolved around the band desperately trying to make "When I Come Around" by Green Day sound like a new song."
Um...Hello? "Deluxe", the Better Than Ezra album that "Good" was on came originally came out on Ezra's "Swell Records" label in 1993. "Dookie" was released in 1994.
In other words, you're a ***** moron. - ezweave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Kyuss isn't forgotten, they just weren't a "radio" band. If it weren't for Kyuss, there would be no QOTSA. This is a list of "remember them" bands from someone who never read Maximum Rock N Roll. The 90s had many brilliant bands, that while unknown by kids who listen to radio still have big followings: Jawbreaker, Kyuss, Sunny Day Real Estate, Pavement, Refused, Fu Manchu (still around)... really what's the point?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I was never a fan of any of these bands, but I have to admit to getting a little nostalgic for the decade whenever I hear them now. These bands (and others like them) were the audio wallpaper of the era, always present in the background of whatever was going on.
The 90s: when pop music didn't suck quite a much. - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8He's in a new band now, peeping tom. They're pretty good and incorporate a lot of hip-hop and electronic influences..and of course weird ***** because he likes to experiment. I went to that tool show and he was getting booed with tomahawk. It wasn't unexpected since 80% of tool fans are just MTV kids, but it was a little disappointing to see them disrespect a highly regarded musician.
- Slungsolow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10this is why I love satelite radio. you can find channels dedicated to this kind of music.
give me Faith No More, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Fuel, Collective Soul, Pixies, Our Lady Peace, Jane's Addition, The Lemonheads, Sister Hazel, Semisonic and Garbage any ***** day of the week. It owns that nickleback ***** that you hear 10 times a day on regular radio. - jaythree9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Pavement and The Pixies FTW!
- antitab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"so you like Our Lady Peace but not Nickelback? They're practically the same ***** band."
Ehh... not seeing the connection. - inquebiss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Watching music snobs argue is entertaining. It's kind of like nerds arguing over who has the better dungeons and dragons character.
- animefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here are some of my favorite bands and/or song from the 90's that may have been forgotten:
Orbit - "Medicine" more nostalgia than quality of song, still an interesting one though
Local H - If you don't remember them download or buy the song called "Bound For The Floor" incredible
Space Hog - "In The Meantime" is a great song, usually puts me in a good mood.
Eve 6 - "Inside Out" I still find myself singing to this one when it comes on the radio or my iPod. Reminds me of college.
Silverchair - "Abuse Me" and "Tomorrow" are some good ones.
Cake - "Going The Distance" he's racing and pacing and plotting the course! - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Mighty Mighty Bosstones
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Pop Will Eat Itself!
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Neutral Milk Hotel isn't forgotten. Lots of people are still discovering Aeroplane Over The Sea
- willistg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9meh that was a stupid list. here's mine
not really forgotten but I'm dropping names
Jesus Lizard
Slint
Helmet
Jawbox
Fudge Tunnel
Ride
Greta
Don Caballero
The Toadies
Drive Like Jehu
The Refused
Dazzling Killmen
Neutral Milk Hotel
Botch
in other words, all the obscure ***** I have from the 90's with me right now. - elamr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Kings X. Dogman. They still Rock but not even close to getting on the filthy ass radio... (which i guess is a good thing).
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's only the U.S. that forgot about the Stone Roses. Plus, they weren't that popular in the States to begin with.
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hey, my new stuff is revolutionary, too. You know who cares? No one. That's how "forgotten" happens.
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Mike Patton is god. Look at his list of bands... Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, D.E.P., Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, Fantomas.... ROCK!
- clink0914, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dont forget Lovage with Dan The Automator or the project he did with Kaada
- danknerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The Urge!
- Rkstar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here's the list:
10. Tonic
9. Vertical Horizon
8. Sponge
7. Soul Asylum
6. Collective Soul
5. Better Than Ezra
4. Candlebox
3. Silverchair
2. Toad The Wet Sprocket
1. Gin Blossoms
Now does it make me cool, or uncool... admitting that I actually have at least one CD by every one of those bands? - Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Radiohead, Blur, Pavement, Weezer, Guided by Voices, My Bloody Valentine, The Flaming Lips, Beastie Boys, Jane's Addiction...
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Yeah, I was expecting a list of one-hit wonders, but all these bands are hardly "forgotten". They're just not quite as famous as RHCP, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. Probably because they sucked. This is pretty much where Nickelback will be in 10 years.
You'll find most of these bands still getting regular airtime on your local "Mix 96" (or equivalent) station that all the I'm-still-hip 40-something mothers listen to. - chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Pixies!
Ha! Try looking up Tad (Tad Doyle) and the Melvins for the original Nirvana sound. - moosebumps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Can't see the list, but I was hoping Neutral Milk Hotel would be on there. Then again you'd actually have to know something to forget it and unfortunately not many people know of nmh.
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7WEEN WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
- whereismyrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5FORGOTTEN rock bands.
- diggboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ha! Try looking up Paul McCartney and John Lennon for the original Nirvana sound.
Kurt Cobain was always very up-front about the influences and "borrowings" that led to their sound. He explicitly credited both the Melvins and Pixies for Nirvana's success on many occasions. In fact, he seemed rather embarrassed that Nirvana broke, while all the great bands whose sound they "represented" toiled in obscurity. I'd say he did more than any popluar artist I can recall to direct the attention back to the past musicians he felt had led to his and Nirvana's music and success. He was one cool *****, if you ask me. - Innagadadavida, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was SURE that Blind Melon would be on this list. I guess they're even more forgotten than these groups. They're getting back together with a new lead singer though.
- Oatmeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you liked pop will eat itself, listen to the pi, requiem for a dream, and the fountain soundtracks. Clint mansell has done some amazing stuff since then.
