- sadchild, on 09/30/2008, -34/+123oh brother. another 'emperor's new clothes' elitist egomaniac best albums list. apparently it's still more important being looked at as avant guarde than to list what you actually like and listen to. don't list stuff just to make people think you're smarter than them. be real.

Buried as inaccurate. - Artemis11, on 10/01/2008, -1/+35The 90's haven't changed since 2003.
- SyntraFTW, on 10/01/2008, -10/+38Red Hot Chili Peppers? Dream Theater? Morrissey?
- dilly323, on 10/01/2008, -8/+35uhh.. this came out in 2003.
- psibladeZX, on 09/30/2008, -1/+27there's some obviously great albums missing from the list...
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -12/+38No love for Soundgarden eh?
Badmotorfinger or Superunknown should have made the list....
"Rusty Cage"
"Outshined"
"Jesus Christ Pose"
"Searching with My Good Eye Closed"
"Fell on Black Days"
"My Wave"
"Spoonman"
"Black Hole Sun"

- psibladeZX, on 09/30/2008, -12/+34Having had the 90's almost completely encompass my childhood (born 1983, so 7-17) it's amazing how many of these I haven't heard of. That being said, this list is missing some obvious hit albums such as:
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (this album is probably top 10)
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Collective Soul - Collective Soul
Green Day - Dookie
Pearl Jam - Vs. and Vitalogy
and to a lower extent:
Aerosmith - Get a Grip
I know this list lacks rap albums but I never got into rap during the 90's (or even this decade).
Why this list lacks these is beyond my comprehension. Those albums pretty much shaped music for years to come. My friends and I still reminisce about songs on these albums...
I guess I should go through and download some of these albums on this list. - dylio, on 10/01/2008, -5/+25nine inch nails - downward spiral

These. - GetItBuilt, on 09/30/2008, -15/+32WoW, I'm surprised how many of them I haven't heard of. Time to update my collection :) Nice Digg.
- Browzer, on 10/01/2008, -1/+15I bought the tape of Faith No More's "Angel Dust" twice because I wore out my first one, and then bought the CD, too. I freakin' love that album. And the funny thing is that I barely listened to it the first year I had it. Initially, I didn't like it much at all. Then I gave it another chance on a long car ride and fell in love with it.
- ultraJesus, on 10/01/2008, -12/+25I AS WELL HAVE A LIST OF ALBUMS THAT I THINK SHOULD BE ON THIS LIST I WILL NOW RECITE THEM
- Sublime: Sublime
THAT IS ALL - philhatesyou, on 10/01/2008, -7/+20Enya? Counting Crows? Really, are you serious?
- knoxindy, on 10/01/2008, -0/+12SOUNDGARDEN thank you. jesus titty ***** christ. how could they not have Soundgarden.
- XorpheusX, on 10/01/2008, -3/+15OK Computer is #1? What a shocker.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -3/+14World of Warcraft?
- MrFisty, on 10/01/2008, -1/+11Man, I was looking for all those albums on this list...
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the Pixies and Aphex Twin, but did we really need their entire catalogues on the list?
I'd liked to have seen Kyuss' 'Welcome to Sky Valley' or 'Blues for the Red Sun' on there. - Nathanis1337, on 10/01/2008, -15/+25Dugg for Ok Computer at #1
- gavin422, on 10/01/2008, -2/+11Never thought I'd live to see the day a Pitchfork article hits the front page of Digg.
- twertyto, on 10/01/2008, -1/+9Just goes to show how subjective these kinds of things are. The article should be titled "The author's top 100 Albums of the 90s"
- drghost, on 10/01/2008, -16/+24buried for pitchfork media.
wannabe "indie" *****. - jwarttman, on 10/01/2008, -4/+12unbelievably bad list. no soundgarden, alice in chains, pearl jam, or rage against the machine? were you even alive in the 90s?
- AmICoolNow, on 10/01/2008, -0/+8I made a comment that I thought was especially witty, but then I realized it was stupid. So bury this edit.
- sillygato, on 09/30/2008, -7/+15Thanks for posting this. I also haven't heard of lots of these. I'm definitely going to check some of these out!
- trumpeter617, on 10/01/2008, -3/+10Mmm neutral milk hotel
- rknowles10, on 10/01/2008, -4/+11Great list... "In the Aeroplane Over The Sea", "Loveless", "Dusk at Cubist Castle" and "OK Computer" are some of my favorite albums, period.
Music isn't only found on the radio, folks. - frenchkick, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6a pitchfork article on digg.
i better get away from my computer. it is about to blow. - fluidfoundation, on 10/01/2008, -7/+13Jeff Buckley & Aphex Twin > REM.
- gavin422, on 10/01/2008, -1/+7Obviously you've never heard of Pitchfork...
- Cam_86, on 10/01/2008, -5/+11How the hell can you have Blur and Pulp, but not Stone roses and Oasis? Those 2 bands were FAR more important in the brit-pop resurgence than either blur or pulp...
People can argue whether Oasis's new albums are crap(on their own, or when held up to their previous work) but Definitely Maybe will always be a classic by any rules you hold against it... - brownsound00, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6I kinda gave up on reading top musical lists with the mindset of them being accurate. Now I just read them to see what people have to say about the albums, or songs etc. I mean, what top X list of 1990s cd's doesn't have nirvana or radiohead in it? I predicted Nevermind as Number 1 on this list (And i'm sure alot of you did too), but that's not the point. The point is that I learned about 75 other cds that i had no idea about.
And I'm not saying this to reject the additions to the list... I thought Alice in Chains would crack the list at least once, and Colour and the Shape would be on there (Dave Grohl recorded the whole damn thing himself! Come on!) not to mention Rage becoming the political voice of the late 90s, just like Public Enemy and Woody Guthrie etc. before them. Then you have Tool coming out of nowhere, and almost forming a genre for themselves. People didn't know what to call it! Experimental Rock? Metal? Alternative Metal? Experimental Metal? etc. It was so different and amazing... not to mention they are still pumping out great albums. (But I'm confident that if Lateralus was released in the 90s... it would be on this list)
@ Sadchild. And as much as I would have liked to see deftones on that list... I would have been surprised. If anything, it should have been White Pony (As it is commonly regarded as the best cd) but I can't really choose what is better between that and Around the Fur.
Anyways, I always digg up articles like this that promote musical discussion amoung the digg community, it's always cool talking about music... especially the good ol' 90s music. - IndustrialJones, on 10/01/2008, -1/+7Primus' Sailing the Seas of Cheese was released in '91 which should have been included. And no Nine Inch Nails (Downward Spiral is one of his best)! No Tool! I remember listening to "Sober" and "Prison Sex" while hanging out at college (after I had dropped out). Those albums made my music preferences what they are today. I think I may have heard of a quarter of the bands on the list.
Grrr! Bad lists make IndustrialJones want to smash fist into wall! Angreee! - mecharabbit, on 10/01/2008, -3/+9I like your list better. I've actually heard of all those.
- macjaeh, on 10/01/2008, -2/+8No Ben Folds Five?
- dezweber, on 09/30/2008, -8/+14I worked in a music store for three years in the early to mid-90's and I haven't heard of quite a few of these. Dugg for Pavement, The Pixies, Liz Phair, and Tom Waits, though...half tempted to bury for The Breeders being on the list - TWICE. Did I miss some Primus or did they not make the list?
- krahzee, on 10/01/2008, -7/+13Metallica S&M, really? That is not even one of their better albums, let alone of the 90's
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -2/+7***** this, rap was actually good in the 90's.
The Chronic at 79 is *****, tho he does get brownie points for Liquid Swords - icexe, on 10/01/2008, -2/+7I agree with a lot more of those than I thought I would. Digging through my pile of 90's stuff, some of my fav's are:
Ministry - The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
Rammstein - Sehnsucht
Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Frontline Assembly - Tactical Neural Implant/Millenium/Hard Wired
Body Count (Ice-T) - Body Count
KMFDM - Angst/Symbols
Damn, I was quite the mosher back in the day. - Mungo616, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5The worst exclusions were;
Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley - johndavidjack, on 10/01/2008, -2/+7Pantera?
- kurupttek, on 10/01/2008, -3/+8And you can find them all at TPB
- lemercier, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Slint!
- noumuon, on 10/01/2008, -1/+6fail. no mention of vanilla ice.
- rednaxela825, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5You didn't even look through the albums did you?
079: Dr. Dre
The Chonic - kidathinnes, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5I honestly don't find Yorke depressing in the slightest.
- dn11, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4Mellon Collie is vastly superior to Siamese Dream IMO. This list is so arbitrary - just like any top list. It's a mix of the familiar and the obscure - but even amongst the familiar - they aren't placed right
- franklymister, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5Any top 100 list of something as personal as musical taste is by definition either going to be overly mass-appeal oriented, or wildly inaccurate for anyone who has deep emotional investment in their own musical favorites.
This one's a little bit of both.
That said, they are totally right about Pulp and The Magnetic Fields. -
