Good performance, but there are guys out there that can do much more. From a technical standpoint most of it wasn't 5 star. From a flair stand point he did well, but i think its a hell of alot more impressive to see a full line, that tends to be damn good showmanship. I'd say 3.5 but not 5 star.
- Thud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Nice visuals, and some good playing, but I just can't get around the fact that the Dynasty drums sound like complete crap.
I was at the DCI southeastern championships last weekend (Georgia Dome) and the 2 corps that used dynasty drums definitely did not have a good sound. Blue Devils was one and I can't remember the other.
Now if you want some energy, it's hard to beat Blast:

My tastes have moved on to pipe band drumming though, it's much more challenging mentally. Look for some videos of some good grade 1 pipe bands. - RangerRuss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I agree, this guy is far better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Would it be so wrong to put a word like drummer, drums, snare, something in the topic?
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Though he definitely has skills, that wasn't music to my ears.
- PhilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Rudiments are the basic sticking patterns / principals. You can see some here: http://www.vicfirth.com/education/rudiments.html
- dangerousLEH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Aright, I hate to be the first dick, but half of the stuff he did, alot of drumline members can do. Now that being said; the other half of performance (the section with one stick, the section using his elbow) were really innovative and I give him props.
- Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Now if he was playing that with his genitalia..
- Aldrenean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12http://meems.imeem.com/H4jyFpAm/video/3-zqfgoA/buddy_rich_vs_animal/
better, because it has the muppets. :P - roastedbagel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12holy crap, that guy is 10X better than the original video! Jesus, people watch the video in popltree2's comment, much much better.
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I don't care how "amazing" this guy is, he seems like a tool.
- spokenrope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11At the end, the stick even hits the wall in tempo. Very impressive.
- Quakes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Indeed. For the most part there wasn't even any rhythm to it.
- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I bet he watches his own video 10 times a day.
- opieateit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I love summer and drum corps. anyone else here march?
I marched Scouts. - mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18Nick Cannon would have owned him....
- Ralph_Wiggum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8affanjam -
That's a concert snare drum, the type of drum you would see on a drum set, or in an orchestra type setting. The guy in the video was playing a marching snare drum, which you would see at High School and College football games or drum corps. - blackmagician, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If you liked Ivan, check out Tim Jackson. 05 I&E Champion Tenor.

they both march the same line, 04 Blue Devils. - herlehy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You do realize where Blast! came from, don't you? Blast was formed after the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corp which ceased to field corps after the 1993 season. So, Blast is made up of that same group of people Drum Corps is made out of.
And I believe that the drummer in Blast is Jeff Queens. He and Ivan Pacheco are some of the best marching snare players in the world. Sure, Pacheco may have a bit of an ego in this video, but that's all show. Most drum line people get like that when they perform. - paulwilde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+76 year old:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xzVSSivU9E&NR - hygraed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That's mature.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"You do get better than DCI, how about BLAST. DCI is high school and college kids, with a splash of old timers. Basically none of them are professionals, and stand alone they are just the beginning of great."
You do realize that Blast! is people who are paid and it was formed out of Star of Indiana, so for all intents and purposes, Blast! is DCI. - PhilM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but it is real! It's pretty awsome isn't it?
- DiamondIce, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Do I... Do I conduct with my penis?
- herlehy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Stupid edit timeout. LycoLoco must have posted right after I started reading the comments...
He is right. Star turned into Blast. Blast is DCI, just indoors and on a smaller performance floor. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Wanna know why he's so good? This is DCI. You just don't get better than that.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You haven't been around many DCI drummers in an I&E performance, have you?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah the ending on this one was absolutely awesome
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6All he's doing is really fast rolls and paradiddles, for the most part. No nuance, not much dynamic range, not even much rhythm to speak of. It's a great display of athletic ability, but there's a difference between hitting the drums really fast with a drumstick in your armpit, and actually PLAYING the drums in a musical way.
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Whoever was running the camera on this video was horrible. I can't stand how it constantly shifts in and out of focus...
- MostlyHarmless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I marched in high school, but don't have the time in the summers for corps (reseach stuff). I went to see the local drum corps show and the one in San Antonio, and I caught Blast! a few years ago. This stuff really is awesome.
- milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Buddy rich is still the king
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Buddy Rich, could get up after drinking ten bottles of whiskey, not practiced (he never did), and pick up two small sticks from the bottom of a tree and make these drum nerds his bitch.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=iYpR5iw9F1M - Thud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"And I believe that the drummer in Blast is Jeff Queens."
Jeff Queen did play with Blast a few years back, but that's not him in the video.
But here he is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZeYIGHXfoI
Definitely got some chops. - PhilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I edited because he added in the wink. I'm really awful at detecting sarcasm in writing, especially on digg it seems. :(
- lbjazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4dem . . .
The guy would not have even made the first cut with the Blue Devils if he could not play musically. Hell, he wouldn't have made the first cut anywhere in D1 DCI if he couldn't play musically. - legom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4why is this title so non descriptive? I use the RSS feed to see what stories to read, and I had to take a chance to see what the story is about.
- duke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Sounds like my iPod before I got the HD replaced. :) I'm going to make an audio file of this (without the cheers), and put it on one of my co-workers' computers, and set it to play when they open a file
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It doesn't sound as good if you look away and can't see him pullling the faces and putting on the "act".
The guy is too full of himself, Someone tell him he is only playing a single drum, He has no reason to look so pleased with himself. - Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3pwn3d
- opieateit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Play musically? This is not 1976, drum corps do play musically. What corps did your kids come back from? It took you a few months to retrain your students? .
- scarybunnyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3......i'm sure their "beats" are as good as nick cannon's too....
... I eternally loath the creators of that movie.. I wish i could forget all the times when WGI/DCI has come up in conversation and the invetivable question always is: ""Oh! like the movie drumline??"""
sigh.... yes.... JUST like the movie drumline.... - TheSeeker11, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I can do that I just don't want to.
- lochness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's some kick arse morse code...
But Dude.... was it really necessary to say all those thing about my mother.... ? - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Way to steal the comment RIGHT from the youtube page...
- Drgn547, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah...really not overly impressed... check out the guys at http://www.recycledpercussion.com (go to "the music" section) I've seen them live a couple times, they put on a good show
- canUdiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Scouts are doing very well in perc this season. And finals is in Madison! MYNWA opieateit
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Completely uninspiring
- opieateit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I marched 96-97
