- scottysmith, on 12/14/2008, -9/+55that is without doubt, the worst list i have ever had the misfortune to read
- voodoo68, on 12/14/2008, -4/+49The top ten INDIE rock albums of 2008.
- gettempapa, on 12/14/2008, -6/+33the list fails
- xOKxWhy, on 12/13/2008, -0/+25Kanye West? Seriously? Come on
- bhavinp, on 12/14/2008, -2/+16Please no more stupid list of top 10 music artists, everyone has different taste and will results in an endless argument by diggers, with everyone eventually agreeing to suck Trent Reznor's dick.
- mag3b, on 12/14/2008, -1/+12That Fleet Foxes album is beautiful. If you want a reason to buy their album, here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx7_Gmr4qMM - randylm, on 12/14/2008, -2/+10This is on the front page?
- Frixionburne, on 12/14/2008, -0/+7Its because Tool hasn't made another album yet.
- meamog, on 12/14/2008, -3/+10I feel strangely sorry for you - I guess you're the type of person that will never see an amazing rock show in a club with 50 other people.
A band doesn't need to fill a stadium to be great OR well known. - FastZ, on 12/14/2008, -0/+7That guy is such a douche.
- chasemassey, on 12/14/2008, -6/+12The Slip?
- AFelsinger, on 12/13/2008, -7/+13yeah, honestly the only one on this list I really liked is the Hold Steady's
- bbak, on 12/14/2008, -2/+8It makes me so happy/sad that none of you jack asses have heard of these bands....
- solid12345, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Not to ***** on indie rock or anything but its getting harder to find good old-fashioned beer swigging rock music to pound your old lady to. I don't want to listen to music that makes me want to crawl into the corner and shoot up heroin.
- MaryCait, on 12/14/2008, -1/+6AP tryin' to get all up in Pitchfork's grilllll?
aw, *****! - ScientistBlah, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5The AP rates music now? Wtf?
- xobecide, on 12/14/2008, -2/+7I should make an album so I can make it on a top 10 list. Drum machine, vocoder, and an abstract instrument such as a lyre. I win grammy!
- QuietThings430, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4I guess you didn't read rolling stone's best albums of 2008 then. Even Jonas Brothers made that list.
- lamejoketeller, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4listen to the song "I Got Mine" by the Black Keys and tell me to my face it is not rock music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9AfKcHwoP4 - qwertyxuiop, on 12/14/2008, -2/+6Dude... seriously...
popularity doesn't mean ***** when it comes to quality. Download those records and you will see. Especially that Constantines record. Great band, although I prefer Shine a Light to the new record... but thats just me - ilikepai, on 12/14/2008, -2/+6Who the ***** is Kanye West?
- Stuntaneous, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4this is a list of rock?
- Ridikul, on 12/14/2008, -1/+5Indie is not a genre.
- creep303, on 12/14/2008, -1/+5Some of those aren't even rock bands by traditional standards.
- bhavinp, on 12/14/2008, -2/+6Watershed - Opeth?
Obzen - Meshuggah?
How the ***** is Kanye West rock? - JoeDiggsIt, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Don't avoid any of them. They really are freaking awesome across the board. The Black Keys are just as "indie" as any of them, so you don't need to be afraid, I mean half of them are signed to Sub Pop anyway.
- gemini8200, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4I only know Santogold because she had that song in the Bud Lite Lime commercials..
- 1kewldude, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3As soon as you mention Coldplay - that's how i know you're.......
- Laterali, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4***** yea. Top 5 lists are so much better.
- gemini8200, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3It can't. Coldplay is a band people have heard of.
- mikedub1219, on 12/14/2008, -3/+6love the black keys, but attack and release was definately not one of their good albums
- paulvq, on 12/14/2008, -16/+19I have never heard of any of those bands.
- scottja35, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Do yourself a favor and go for The Hold Steady first. They're a great band.
- ChaosElement, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Needs more Insurgentes by Steven Wilson. http://www.insurgentes.org/
- qwertyxuiop, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3you are obviously not paying any attention to what is going on in music if you truly believe this.
- scottja35, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3It is pretty pathetic, but explain to me how that list is "indie" in any sense of the word. (No, I'm not trying to open the debate about the asinine use of the word "indie".)
Kanye West? Coldplay? Jack's Mannequin? - stanleyford, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Fleet Foxes: If you haven't heard this album, you owe it to yourself to check them out. It's the only album that seems to be on everybody's end-of-year list.
Lykke Li: Something of a dark horse, but I'm gratified to see her name popping up. It took three or four listens before I really "got" her album.
Jenny Lewis: Meh. I'm a big Jenny Lewis fan, but she's done better work with Rilo Kiley, and Rabbit Fur Coat was superior to Acid Tongue.
Vampire Weekend and She & Him: I must be the only person who thinks these albums are totally overrated. I can't imagine myself listening to Vampire Weekend three or four years from now, and as much as I like M. Ward and I want to boff Zooey Deschanel, their album was really uninspired.
Some of my personal favorites which weren't on this list:
Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead
Kings of Leon - Only by the Night
Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line
School of Seven Bells - Alpinisms (why hasn't anyone heard of this awesome band?) - FastZ, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4Haha, wtf? So apparently, all the hype about the email scams that was talked about on here a while back made it around to the scammers....who are now starting to bring that ***** here. Boo.
- theseaman, on 12/14/2008, -2/+5Overall, these albums received some of the highest critical acclaim this year. I think this is due to the fact that most reviewers felt they are all innovative in certain ways, are somewhat experimental yet remain poppy, and have talented song-writing and talented musicians on them.
Whether you like the genre, scene, or whatever doesn't really matter as much as the above criteria.
Oh, and indie is not a genre, god dammit. - RegalBegal, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Smile - Boris
- melissa1031, on 12/14/2008, -3/+6this isn't rock at all. santogold?! seriously? the indie top 10 should be:
1. frightened rabbit-midnight organ fight
2. bon iver-for emma, forever ago
3. MGMT-oracular spectacular
4. sigur ros-Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
5. sebastian tellier-sexuality
6. M83-saturdays=youth
7. magnetic fields-distortion
8. death cab for cutie-narrow stairs
9. radiohead-in rainbows
10. elbow-the seldom seen kid
runner up: beach house-devotion - partrow, on 12/14/2008, -2/+5Anyone else sick of the top ten this, and the top ten that?
- Philosomatika, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Scottja35 Isnt music subjective? Those albums I listen are from bands I like and albums I really enjoyed listening too. For me those are my favourite albums this year, they may not be what other people like. I was commenting on what I thought where the best albums of 2008.
Either people or disargee there is no need to go mad about it.
Pirate42 I dont think my list is fail. I said other people might think it fails which is fine I was just voicing my opinion which seems to be bad thing on digg these days. - uncouthyouth, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Yes. I award you 7 internets.
- roebeet, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I like your Top 10 more than the one in the article.
- bat-21, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2I like Lykke Li but she's not rock, not even close.
- kingg2, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2More like the top 10 most obscure rock albums of 2008.
- ghuytro, on 12/14/2008, -2/+4Because clearly sales and popularity = musical quality
