1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication - robbob, on 12/03/2008, -2/+63Slideshows are for Grandpa, not for webpages
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -3/+42Thank god Guns and Roses wasn't on this list.
- jakash, on 12/03/2008, -10/+47Mariah Carey sucks. Digg up if you agree.
- MadSins, on 12/03/2008, -0/+31dugg for Johnny Cash.
- LostOnion, on 12/03/2008, -2/+31Johnny Cash - The Man in Black is the man period. I still miss him.
- mbonzo531, on 12/03/2008, -1/+19Interesting list...I was surprised how poorly written the article was, especially from Time.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2008, -2/+19How you can make a comeback album list and NOT have Back In Black on it is astonishing.
- robo73, on 12/03/2008, -2/+17I'm not a fan, but Aerosmith's Permenant Vacation probably out sold most of those and definitely resurrected a seemingly dead career
- spydersvenom, on 12/03/2008, -1/+14Technically, it can't really be on the list, so I fully agree. Sure with RHCP they had some issues with their guitarists, but Guns n Roses, regardless if you liked it or not, isn't the same band! It's just Axel and an armada of guitarists. If they had praised a Guns n Roses comeback it should have been with the Velvet Revolver album.
- LeadStripes, on 12/03/2008, -3/+16Buried for 10 pages.
- starcasm, on 12/03/2008, -25/+38Red Hot Chili Peppers = meh
- axelgrease, on 12/02/2008, -5/+17but they didn't become a better band
- ScorpioDragon, on 12/03/2008, -1/+11Thank you.
- AROZ, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9But Blood Sugar Sex Magik was amazing.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9Am I the only one that's hearing LL Cool J...."Don't call it a comback. I've been here for years..."
- inigomntoya, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9Except that the tune you are thinking of (Dani California) wasn't on Californication. It was on Stadium Arcadium, which does not show up on this list.
Nice try, though...
Bringing John back was one of the greatest things RHCP did. Probably the greatest thing for him as well. I can't say it got him off the drugs for good, but it definitely put him in a better place. - flashboy131, on 12/03/2008, -5/+14meh ... they lost me at Meatloaf.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -2/+10But it wasn't a comeback, cuz their last album went platinum, and they didn't suffer any fall backs in between.
- fandyboy, on 12/03/2008, -1/+8Achtung Baby!
- salinaspaul, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7Thank you!
- jpsoraire, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7Man some people in the music industry want her to make a "comeback". This woman sucked before, and she still sucks now. The only difference is she may not be in "questionable" activities now. She fooled a lot of people before with that heavily reliable sound editing the wizards were doing in here music recording studios. She was an attractive teenage girl that had marketing appeal and that's why she sold records. Guess what, she isn't a teenager anymore and has been heavily criticized for putting her kids in danger. She's done........waaaay passed done. Britney, I'm sorry, but you have to stop now. I mean congratulations on your previous success and I wish you the best in your life for you and your family......but really now, stop. You can't count this as your comeback album if you already make an album from your big hiatus in recording albums. Blackout was only played because it was your "comeback" album. You can't make a 1st impression twice for your "comeback" album. Once you did it that's it. Seriously Britney stop it!
- FrankieB078, on 12/03/2008, -8/+15They forgot Metallica's Death Magnetic. Otherwise, Green Day and RHCP were obvious choices.
- Phishcast, on 12/03/2008, -1/+7Man period? Gross.
- percypersimmon, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6why did this author write "epic" so many times?
- Coffeedemon, on 12/03/2008, -2/+8They were always pop.
- cuoops, on 12/03/2008, -2/+8There were a lot in the 80's. Dire Straits, Heart, Jefferson Starship, Yes...few more. And how about the Eagles in 1993 after 14 or so years?
- readme, on 12/03/2008, -1/+7Fails for not listing AC/DC's Back in Black. Their lead singer dies and *five months later* they release an album with a new singer which becomes the second best selling album of all time.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+6sorry I read your comment wrong. my mistake. bury me!
And its still guns and roses because the name is still guns and roses. So I still do not agree with you. But I will shut up after I failed to read your reply correctly. - angelgabe, on 12/03/2008, -5/+11I disagree. American Idiot lost the teenage garage band charm of their earlier albums but who over the age of 26 wants to keep writing songs about getting stoned and masturbating. These guys did that, they did it great and they've moved on. Is American Idiot highly produced? Is it highly political? Yeah, so what? That's the kind of thing you can get away with after a decade of success.
- freezerburn666, on 12/03/2008, -4/+10i could only bury this article, but i really really wanted to ***** on it.
- jedinate, on 12/03/2008, -3/+8I was worried about the writer's knowledge of music, when I saw Green Day on the list, started feeling better when I saw gems and true comebacks such as Tina Turner and Paul Simon, but ultimately Mariah Carey left a bad taste in my mouth (and I would rather leave a bad taste in hers).
- kamisama, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5I'd still vote them in for Back In Black, probably still their best album to date, and the first after Bonn Scott's death.
- nite002, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6Stillmatic is a great rap album but certainly not the greatest ever. Illmatic on the other hand...
- rironin, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5My thoughts exactly. Where are the editors? Or at least a once-over by the author?
- Hetman, on 12/03/2008, -2/+7Nice joke about death magnetic. Rick ruben cannot even help metallica. And that is saying a lot.
- 11oops, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5Nah, he's been here for years.
- SketchaMPM, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6Honestly, I'm not sure why you're getting buried. 'Black Album' was fantastic and I've seldom heard anything to the contrary...unless the argument is that he hadn't left yet.
- rodon, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5The Johnny Cash cover of Beck's "Rowboat" scored him major comeback points with me.
- Nayson, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6Not really. Run DMC resurrected Aerosmith's career.
- daimposter, on 12/03/2008, -6/+10wow, i think it's one of the best albums of this decade.
- SketchaMPM, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5RHCP. Really.
- SketchaMPM, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4What's with all the RHCP bashing?
- BrokenVisage, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Subjectively, it's the greatest I've heard, but I'm just a white city kid who only got into rap because my friends were into it.
- MrFurious2k, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Yay for a fickle media. 1 year ago they delighted in reporting on all things pointing to failure for Brittany. This year, it's total ass kissing.
- LPhilM, on 12/03/2008, -2/+6Thank you?
- mojoel, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Zohan??!!
- HillerMylife, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5Keep ragin' bro!
- ATLiens, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4the songs don't sound "***** identical." the tempos are different, the way the chords are played are different, the drum beat is different, the bassline is different, the chord progression isn't exactly the same, the melody isn't exactly the same (similar, but not identical). and the chorus and solo portion of the song are extremly different.
yes it sounds similar...identical? no.
there's only so many possibilities with chord progressions in music, so its impossible to write a song with a chord progression that hasn't been used before.
/stupid discussion - omega1045, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4I don't know why this is buried. I HATE rap music, but I thought that album was pretty damn good and was a comeback album.
