- Hoopkidups, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35The best part is, I can finally understand what Family Guy was referencing to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPS7CdxrBjU&search=take%20on%20me%20family%20guy
- darkmist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13From now on when anybody says this isn't news I am going to post this.
Digg is a technology news website that combines SOCIAL BOOKMARKING, blogging, RSS, and non-hierarchical editorial control. With digg, users submit stories for review, but rather than allow an editor to decide which stories go on the homepage, the users do.
It isn't just for news, I think the amount of non-news stories prove this. - TwoncastDotNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I do have to stand on principle on this one, for while I'm not a digg nazi and I like cools news stories whether they are tech or not, they should be news of some sorts lol its a slippery slope to "come check out my favorite band" posts
but agreed this was an awesome video and the family guy parody was wicked funny! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Wow the video makes you feel emotion. Not just tryin to give you a hard on like todays pop videos.
- eatporktoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"Your all what dinosaurs this dosent compare to our G-unit, 50 Cent Gangsta Rap
Yo dawg can you feel me"
you're right, this involves talent of some kind :-
(I can't believe you said "Yo dawg can you feel me".... Good Lord!) - briankoenig03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Disney used rotoscoping way back in 1937 for "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscope
And the use of rotoscoping doesn't necessarily mean they aren't "artists". - erazmus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Our office was split evenly down the middle when the discussion of the Family Guy episode happened a few weeks ago. Half the staff (the 'younger' half) didn't have a clue about the reference to this video. They'd never even seen it before. Of couse, us 'older' half couldn't believe that something so pervasive in our youth was completely missing from a large portion of the collective conciousness.
- Mathiias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6To all those that keep asking "why was this Dugg?"
It was Dugg because someone thought it was cool or interesting. And you know what? Then a whole bunch more people thought it was cool or interesting. That is what Digg is all about, user driven content. If you don't like it, don't Digg it. - damonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That statement is completely untrue. A-Ha is HUGE in Japan and Europe. They just released their 8th album a few months ago. Just because they haven't had hits in the US does not mean they are the typical one-hit wonders. They also did the theme song for the James Bond movie, The Living Daylights.
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ever notice in the first couple of scenes, that the motor-cycle racers all have goggles on top of their helmets, instead of wearing them as they go 140 mph?!?!
I would hate to get hit in the eyes with a bug at that speed.... - anamorphic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"wa-hey before rotoscoping." - handle
I don't know whether this video was rotoscoped or not, but if it wasn't, it's not because the process wasn't invented yet. Rotoscoping was invented in 1914. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping
And, on preview, what briankoenig03 said. - JimDinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To each there own I was born in 73 and grew up on 80s music, call me old if you want, but I happen to love that video.
To all of you out there whining about how it sucked, some of the music you listen to now a days sucks, nothing but repetitive beats and mumbling into the mic not to mention totally ripping off other music by sampling various 80 tunes.
Bury me if you want but at least my point was made. To all the "old timers" The 80s will never die, they are what made todays music. And if your ever in Tomah WI,come to Frannys bar thats what I play is the 80s to a great extent. Gotta love em!! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That would be 60's reference NOT 80's
- Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3re: "wa-hey before rotoscoping."
Wrong.
Rotoscoping was invented almost 100 years ago.
Several sources say that rotoscoping was used to make this video. - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Was cool before FG too
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4In retrospect that video was far ahead of its time. I love 80's hair poofs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7That actually was pretty cool
- handle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4wa-hey before rotoscoping. Hard to believe, but back in the day there were these things called "artists" :) Enya also has a video, Caribbean Blue maybe, with an amazing video made up of thousands of watercolours.
- plugitin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Crap you beat me to it.
http://www.devilducky.com/media/33634/ - Oatmeal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Great song, but it could use a little bit more cowbell
*CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK....* - superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Compared to a lot of other videos at the time, I was amazed when I first saw this...actually, I still am.
/born 1980 - rmendis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Brings back great memories of the 80s!
digg+ - gbonham, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7that was an awesome episode. Family Guy rocks.
- JohntB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That wikipedia page that you linked to says that this was rotoscoped.
- EviLiu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I got a chuckle out of that. Assuming you're kidding...
- monsieurgrand02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was classic...not dumb.
And yes. Also a classic Family Guy moment as well. - Purist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For it being 80's, the effect was just great. Helps that the song is awesome too.
- grzelakc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cool. As an 80's lad I just had to dig that! 80's pop kicks major ass, any Depeche Mode links out there?
- Testify.Alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Was this done with interstitial rotoscoping or where those original animations? Does anyone know?
- Purist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, why was it removed? Booo... I did file it under the Music category, and people obviously love it.
- history1me, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why was this removed from the front page?
- ender52, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This was one awesome video. I would have to give the award for best video ever to Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, though. Man I love that video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcP_Toppp7s&search=sledgehammer - SixSider, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Greatest. Video. Ever.
/born 1971 - rmendis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why was this removed from the front page? What is the "music" category for anyway?
I think this video has spurred some interest and discussion on the technology of rotoscoping, has it not? - mbm329, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Website now reads: "This video has been removed due to copyright infringement."
hmm... that sucks. - adminmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4born 1990, and i loved this song since i was young[er]
- dimmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3awesome with an a :)
- sinfony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When there is a button to report something as "Old News," it implies that Digg is meant for new things. Nothing from 1985 can be considered new in any sense of the word. This isn't del.icio.us.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Brings back good memories. The only reason I know this is from my 3 older sisters.
- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3/born 1966. That brings back great memories. +digg
- thepctech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ok, it was a great video, I'm an 80's guy also! Digg++
- MonkeyPox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Digg for a favorite 80's tune, and video, and way cute girl.
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2as long as we're on the /born thread...I never have seen this video, and I thought it was rather kickass...yeah
/born 1991 - Testify.Alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, I cant wait for A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life (my first exposure to rotoscoping) is one of my favorite movies.
- HiddenForce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They also put out the almost-as-well-known "The Sun Always Shines On TV" from the same album. It's not as famous as "Take On Me," but it did get quite a lot of radio air time back then.
- Hitchhiker90, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5So if I dig up some videos that are old as ***** that I watched 20 years ago I can get on digg too? Sorry no digg. Its a good song, good video, but not digg worthy since its BEEN AROUND FOR 20 YEARS. You should probably digg that "all your base" video too.
- bigpixl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There were douchebags in Mozart's era dumping on him because his music was too modern.
The world keeps turning, get over it. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+2Never seen this before, digg :D
I don't get what the race car drivers were there for though? -
