- the14thjoey, on 11/06/2007, -2/+48They build up a fan base, then they tour.
- dillibob, on 11/05/2007, -2/+23this isnt about the game rockband.... DAMN YOUR CAPS!!!!
- slugicide, on 11/04/2007, -0/+14The Concretes, Peter Bjorn & John, Hello Saferide, Dungen... Sweden has some pretty great bands. This is not one of them, I think.
- DiggzDE, on 11/06/2007, -1/+14Misleading titles for the win!
- sporg, on 11/05/2007, -1/+14Piracy and good taste do not always go hand in hand.
- cyberpope, on 11/06/2007, -1/+13Me too, which would be equally as interesting, if not more so.
- vh1`, on 11/06/2007, -1/+12"success" to a band isn't (or at least shouldn't) be when you have millions of dollars
- joaob, on 11/06/2007, -6/+17How do they make money?
- shredomatic, on 11/06/2007, -0/+11Those are impressive stats, but if they had just posted a torrent of their CD without TPB backing them, would they have as many people checking it out? Not likely. Bands still need promotion even if they give the CD away for free.
- TheMu, on 11/06/2007, -2/+13It's not like they would make a whole lot of money off of releasing a CD. The big bucks come in from touring, which is why some bands do this kind of thing, although they're pressured by the record companies not to (guess who makes all the money from the CDs?)
- bykte, on 11/04/2007, -4/+14For their effort, they earn $0.00.
- squirrelza, on 11/04/2007, -0/+9If you're close minded, yeah.
- Frosty122, on 11/12/2007, -0/+9i actually really like them...
- septicmadman, on 11/04/2007, -1/+9They are...bad
- shadeOgrey, on 11/04/2007, -0/+7If that comment had a point, I missed it completely.
- Calculon, on 11/06/2007, -2/+8Even if 10 million downloads occur... how does that help the band? I dont get how it's a "success" that 100,000 people got your music for free. Now what?
- OsakaWilson, on 11/06/2007, -2/+8Unless exposure is worth something.
- b3mus3d, on 11/06/2007, -1/+7hundreds of thousands of people are suddenly aware that they exist.
that's gotta be worth something. The next step is monetizing that... - davidleeroth, on 11/04/2007, -1/+7And Opeth! And Arch Enemy! And Bathory! A TON of my music is Swedish.
Gotta love Göteborg metal... - mike81890, on 11/04/2007, -1/+6don't forget Soilwork! and In Flames too.
- squirrelza, on 11/04/2007, -1/+6Sweden makes good death metal :)
- LaGStAr, on 11/06/2007, -1/+6I did too.
A simple "a" between sponsors and Rock Band would have cleared up this confusion. - Jergens, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5Holy crap. As a big fan of both glam-metal and european metal (particularly the stuff coming from the Scandinavian countries), I have to say... that song sucks. Badly.
- dievel, on 11/04/2007, -1/+5Just imagine if Pirate Bay sponsored Rock Band....then the track list would be on there for free...and i might actually cough up $170
- HappyScrappy, on 11/06/2007, -1/+5That's great! Now, with their newfound popularity they just need to figure out how to make some actual money off this fame.
The problem is, with the Pirate Bay's principles, you shouldn't have to pay for anything from the band except possibly a live performance (assuming you don't find a bootlegged videotape of the concert a substitute).
I do understand the idea of bands trying out alternate methods of publicity. But I can't see how any creator of music (or IP in general) is well served by the idea that all IP should be free at no charge. - allyant, on 11/04/2007, -2/+6who
- obxjdt, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3I grew up in the 80's, so I know a thing or two about "Glam-Rock". I wouldn't call them "Glam". When I think of Glam-Rock, I think of bands like; Europe, Winger, Mr. Big, Whitesnake, etc, etc... These guys have (at least in the video) more of a Neo-Rock-a-Billy sound.
- johnny23, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3So you are saying that the way to reach more people with your music is not to give it away on a site that has millions of hits a day? Sell it instead?
- thesimo, on 11/04/2007, -0/+3yep, chris amott ftw
- STKD, on 11/04/2007, -5/+8This is a myth, and in fact the opposite is often true. A huge amount of tours actually end up as a loss, but promote the album which makes the money.
- Calculon, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3Yeah, but you gotta eat.
- Entheoddity, on 11/06/2007, -1/+4sure did
- Abomonog, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3True, but the RIAA cuts so much out of the album profit for a band that in the end if an album goes platinum (1 million sold) and a band has five members, each member still only makes about $10,000. And the CD's sell at $15 a shot. Selling online you retain all your earnings minus a grand or two matenience fees. Giving it away free removes all profit but if you're popular enough you will quickly see it in concert ticket sales.
- shealer, on 11/04/2007, -0/+3Normally while reading peoples opinions, you should read it instead of being a grammar Nazi. The point is valid, and easily understandable.
- stubear, on 11/06/2007, -1/+4How many of those 100,000 turned into album sales or sales of any kind? What are the sales figures if so? How many turned into fans of their music? How can this be called a success if none of these questions are answered? The only success here is for the promotion of The Pirate Bay and more free downloads for the leechers.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3If you had bothered to click on the link, you would've seen that you can buy their merchandise AND can also buy a physical copy of the music (on CD).
- Piggycow, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2Nice, I just downloaded it now.
- knugen, on 11/06/2007, -1/+3It wasn't that bad. Kinda groovy!
- iheartjebus, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2Jens Lekman, The Knife, and Annie are all from Sweden too, right? Sweden rules.
- JoelBakan01, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2Actually STKD, that isn't true except for huge bands like Metallica and Madonna etc..
- Aniphx, on 11/04/2007, -1/+3Yeah, suckered me too.
- metapop, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2The Cardigans' past couple records are really incredible... and trust me, they sound nothing like "lovefool"... and don't forget The Sounds too.
- HappyScrappy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2Not all bands play live.
Again, my issue is The Pirate Bay says ALL content should be free, whether the creator wants it to be or not.
How does this benefit this band to lose this choice to make for themselves?
And anyway, I already covered the live concert stuff in my post.
When I left the concert I was at last night, the bands were lined up selling their CDs at the door and doing a good business. I don't think they made as much money off the ticket sales as they do off T-Shirt and CD sales at the concert. The Pirate Bay's philosophy would mean getting their music was free, so the CD sales would drop precipitously. The T-Shirt business would be reduced to essentially a service fee for printing the shirt, as copying the design and printing it using another company would be legal under the Pirate rules. - z0mbie2099, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2Lamont makes good music.
- XmenArt, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1Music is free. http://www.volumevote.com
- shunter99, on 11/04/2007, -0/+1Yep, definitely not glam rock. I don't even think they are rock.
They are like a bad Duran Duran ... so, pop? - Abomonog, on 11/04/2007, -0/+1Bubble Gum rock. Closer to a heavy B52's or Roxette. Only without the professional mixing job.
- brianary, on 11/04/2007, -2/+3Well, I guess not by sitting on their ass collecting royalties.
Maybe they get off their ass and, I don't know, PERFORM? - shealer, on 11/04/2007, -0/+1And, god forbid, you misspell 'guerrilla' , and use the word "pimped" in a nonsensical way.
