- verge, on 11/02/2007, -3/+41carter beauford, neil, stewart copeland and bonham each seem to transcend the role of timekeeping and have a voice of their own. moving pictures put neil on the map for me, i was 12 or so. started playing drums 2 years later. nice find.

Animal from the muppets owns him - cusoman, on 11/02/2007, -1/+21The only thing Lars Ulrich does better than any other drummer is whine.
- damndj, on 11/03/2007, -13/+32Danny Carey for the win.
- cusoman, on 11/02/2007, -2/+20You won't see me arguing the claim made. Neal is a percussion genius. I had the pleasure of seeing Rush earlier this fall for the first time and was blown away by Neal's expertise, and just the performance in general. Those guys seem to get better with age, like a fine wine.
- swabfalling, on 11/05/2007, -1/+17HAHAHAHAHA
- FuzzplugJones, on 11/03/2007, -4/+18I'm glad I didn't have to come in here and say "No, it's Neil Peart."
- sethrotull, on 11/03/2007, -1/+14animal... case closed
- Macgyrl64, on 11/02/2007, -6/+18Neil does things with his instruments that not many drummers can do. His technique is flawless and many riffs are difficult. He stands out above many others in his field. True that Rush and Neil himself get better with age. Proves practice makes perfect and Neil has been doing this for a long while now. He's a genius when it comes to his percussions and music.
- shark615, on 11/05/2007, -1/+13Wow. Seriously? Shouldn't you be in class or something?
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 11/09/2007, -12/+24I thought it was down to Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy?
- wearenotsickmen, on 11/02/2007, -4/+16rush rocks
- derforseti, on 11/02/2007, -3/+13Drum solo of life!
- compgeek, on 11/02/2007, -3/+12Niel Pert Rocks and he's Canadian too
Dugg - mrbradg, on 11/02/2007, -3/+12Carter Beauford is on the list in my book.
- EvilDr.X, on 11/04/2007, -4/+13I'd like to suggest Danny Carey and Matt Cameron, as well.
- otaku22, on 11/01/2007, -1/+10Inverse
- Buckiller, on 11/02/2007, -1/+10RIP Bonzo
- zero, on 11/02/2007, -6/+14I've seen this many times and it never gets old. Anybody that is no impressed has never picked up a pair of sticks and tried to play.
- MadScientist440, on 11/04/2007, -3/+10Dugg for Beauford and Bonzo. These three seem to be in a league of their own to me. Peart seems a bit technical at times, though, while Bonham is all heart. Beauford is the Goldilocks' "just right".
- RogaDanar, on 11/07/2007, -1/+8"This is rock and roll!"
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -13/+20I don't know if he is the best, but I know he is trained in this skill.
- jun2san, on 11/05/2007, -4/+11You must be a drummer Monk and I agree with you. Unfortunately most diggers probably have never heard any of these guys therefore you will probably get dugg down.
- crash331, on 11/04/2007, -2/+9Hey, another Porcupine Tree fan!
- richardiscool, on 11/05/2007, -1/+8Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
- MonkCanatella, on 11/02/2007, -9/+16He's definitely far from the best. Gavin Harrison, Assaf Seewi, JoJo Mayer, Virgil Donati, Bill Bruford, Joe Morello, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta. These guys all pretty much trump anythin Peart's ever done.
- allengeer, on 11/01/2007, -2/+8I bet, seeing as how nearly every good drummer ever idolizes Neil Peart, you have a terrible sense of timing and his timing is good. You know, seeing as how he has a major rock band and you do not.
- Mabu, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7Please... when you see a drum solo with a huge sound system, lights, lasers, moving stages and all the other gimmicks, you know they're covering up the fact that basically the guy is just playing double bass over and over and hitting other drums randomly. X-Japan is totally unimpressive.
- Mabu, on 11/11/2007, -5/+11If you think Peart is that great of a drummer, prepare to change your mind:
Vinnie Colaiuta

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgeX9iYOFSQ - voyage34, on 11/05/2007, -4/+10Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree... Peart is a legend though.
- ward42, on 11/10/2007, -1/+7It's sad that most of you don't know who Buddy Rich was.
- drougnor, on 11/01/2007, -2/+8Being that Portnoy idolizes Peart, that's pretty ***** funny.
Go give Terry Bozio a look, too. - chris9902, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7He should've set it on fire at the end.
- philwalsh, on 11/01/2007, -1/+7This Neil Peart drum solo is so much more impressive than the one posted.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bIchqJoxFQ - salinemist, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6No, there's a million drum nerds on digg who are going to mention some obscure guy who plays in a ***** band who is OF COURSE a million times better.
- virtuality96, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6What makes the professor so special is that he does not waste one beat in a song. And those of you who say he is emotionless, why don't you loss a daughter to a car crash and wife to cancer. He means business when he drums. If you watch him on stage when ever Geddy or Lifeson look back at him he always smiles. No one can do what he can do. And I'm not talking about who can drum the fastest I'm talking about contributing to the music. And the reason he has so many drums is because he has both an electronic drumset and a natural.
- MrBungle, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6Just saw a version of this solo on the current tour and Mr. Peart never fails to amaze.
- catch-22, on 11/07/2007, -3/+8All great drummers, but I still think it's Mike Portnoy FTW:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRnyM6KSrig
Of course calling someone the best drummer is entirely subjective though... - Timetheos, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6Of course he is. It gave me a LOL.
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6I LOL'd
Good one :) - Pwelborn1, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6As an accomplished drummer for 16 years I can tell you that is NOT the case. It is true that he's making a lot of sound, but without some understanding of drumming techniques or even basic knowledge of timing and music in general you really do miss some of the amazing skill that is involved in what you just saw. I'll get you one specific example to keep this short but realize this is only part of what you are seeing. : During the 2nd section of the solo (after he gets up and turns around) he begins starting a rhythm on just his feet; sort of a boom/chick/chick feel. If you notice, for the next minute and a half he begins to do solos with triplets, sixteenths and tons of off the wall improvs with his hands totally independent of his feet, however the timing and continuation of the foot rhythm continues and is flawless. I charge you to find the best drummer you've ever known and see if he can replicate this. I'm telling you it is absolute independent control witch many drummers never EVER come close to mastering. Neil is truly amazing! There's tons of other stuff but you get the idea. He's really a drummers drummer.
- shark615, on 11/09/2007, -2/+7Carey is good, damn good but not on the same level as portnoy and peart
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -8/+13Um, no.
That would be Danny Carey. - Spuy767, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4Listen to 2112 then get back to me.
- cVioletteRun, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4I had the pleasure of seeing Rush a few years back during their R30 tour, and it was everything and more than I had ever hoped for. All three of those guys are among the best in the world at their particular instruments, each song is like a guitar, bass, and drum solo all being played at the same time. Peart is one of the best percussionists ever, as well as an outstanding songwriter. I think any aspiring drummer should watch alot of Neil, esp. Anatomy of a Drum Solo.
My personal favorites are YYZ and 2112. - NinjaBoy, on 11/02/2007, -4/+8I just got to see this live a month or so ago!! ***** EPIC!
- Timetheos, on 11/01/2007, -2/+6Why? They just put out an album. Snakes and Arrows is a blast.
