- mikbunn, on 02/20/2009, -0/+22Almost every Roots album cover tops these.

But dugg for ATCQ and Nas. - leaprinces, on 02/20/2009, -1/+14 This is great!
But I must admit that my favorite is this one....http://z.about.com/d/rap/1/0/L/-/-/-/P.E-ItTakesAN ...
Public Enemy is the greatest rap group ever!!!!! - bjgpp, on 02/20/2009, -3/+15The album cover of all time is The Chronic: 2001

- decker12, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9No Doggystyle? THAT is high art!
http://www.ugo.com/music/hip-hop-album-covers/imag ... - theblueprint, on 02/20/2009, -2/+11"Graduation" is one of my all-time favorite covers.
I was lucky to see the Takashi Murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum this summer. His stuff is amazing, period. Another A+ artist, KAWS, did a special edition cover of "808s and Heartbreak".
Hate if you must, but the man has great taste in art. - dew209, on 02/20/2009, -0/+8Better than anything on that list:

http://tinyurl.com/cvwrdp - gdo01, on 02/20/2009, -0/+7Or maybe because there is hip hop out that there that actively goes against the tough-guy, poor, uneducated, violent stereotypes propagated by mainstream rap.
- rjhomuth, on 02/20/2009, -0/+7Nas is fantastic. Whenever I need help arguing that rap and hip-hop aren't just mindless songs about violence, I use his material as evidence.
- TomRemixed, on 02/20/2009, -1/+7Hello Nasty - Beastie Boy
King - T.I.
The Black Album - Jay Z
Madvillainy - Madvillain
The New Danger - Mos Def
God's Son - Nas
Just naming a few of my favorites. This was actually a pretty good list especially because of Illmatic being number one. - milarepa, on 02/20/2009, -0/+6I was hoping they would have the Geto Boys.
Funny how illmatic is always number one, even for album cover lists. That picture was taken of nas when his father came home from a musical tour. He looks pissed. Like, where you been?! - Fogell, on 02/20/2009, -2/+7By my count it's 8. Failed math much?
- gdo01, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5You have got to be kidding me. Will Smith? Wow you really don't know anything about hip hop.
- SpectralSounds, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5Yeah Because ATCQ, De La, and a ton of other real hiphop artists are all about being gangsta.
- fastguyrules, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5I almost stopped reading until I found A Tribe Called Quest in the line up.
- joshh1, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4Ah how I love GZA's Liquid swords album.
- jasonjcrawford, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4I've always liked the cover to 'Paul's Boutique' by the Beastie Boys.
- IAmTheGuy, on 02/20/2009, -1/+5So many of those covers are awful.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4Why don't you actually listen to some real hip hop, they aren't talking about wanting to be violent, poor, and uneducated, they are talking about how the places they grew up in were full of poor, violent, and uneducated people mainly because of racism and people like you just not caring enough to do anything to fix it. Most early hip hop is about trying to get educated, trying to get away from violence, and trying to make an honest living. You are getting buried because you don't know anything about the thing you are trying to make look bad, you may have an education but you are still ignorant.
- hammburglar, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3i personally think the cover of T.I.s paper trail is better
- boylinkvon206, on 02/20/2009, -2/+5***** kanye
- therippa, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Not only does Liquid Swords have an awesome cover, but imho it is the best album on that list. Whenever a friend tells me they don't like rap, I burn them a copy.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/21/2009, -0/+3See this is why you are ignorant, you resort to calling people ***** instead of looking at things from both angles.
- ileftfark, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Took forever, but dugg for having Illmatic at #1. I can't judge objectively, though, as that album may be the best all-around album the genre has ever seen. Also good call on the Liquid Swords album. Another album that is great musically and has a great cover? Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star. And honorable mention to the Roots' 'Things Fall Apart'.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3GZA - I Gotcha Back
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSQieA85arg
Tupac - Brenda's Got a Baby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl54ABY8VgY&fea ...
Here is just a few examples of some real hip hop. Listen to some before you come to ignorant conclusions about it, since you have no idea what you are talking about. - greenmartian, on 02/21/2009, -0/+2What a typical, boring list. The author must not know much about hiphop if he didn't even include The Pharcyde's Bizarre Ryde 2 the Pharcyde. The symbolism in that cover as well as the back cover is amazing.
- hoodedrobin, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2I'm not into rap/hiphop but having a Grateful Dead bear on the cover... Pretty badass.
- Bilbobaggins, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Geto Boys, naw mean?
- mrn111, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Is it too much to ask to put all the covers on the same page?
- Fogell, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2T.I.'s King is on my list too.
- macmcraeart, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1the cover is pretty nice too - with its not so subtle allusion to exile on main street.
- Maxwell1234, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1Sly Fox, point and case!
- macmcraeart, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1horrible album art is kind of a hiphop tradition. but that is a list of great records none the less.
- bekindin09, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1That's a negative ghostrider
- Sefus, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1exactly.
- thetrev, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1all well and good, but 1. kanye west isn't hiphop (he's pop music) and 2. both the beasties AND cypress hill have produced some simply immense pieces of artwork for their albums. hello nasty + hill IV spring to mind.
- unitedmusicro, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1this is top 8 worst hip-hop album covers,right?
- hiphopcrisis, on 07/25/2009, -0/+1My name is C.R.I.$.I.$. aka Mr. Swagger

My new album "Mr. Swagger" is due for release anytime now.
I had to record a Michael Jackson dedication and add it there because he inspired me a lot.
You can sample some of my music too http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/1674372 - pushforpeace, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1Personally I like Tribe's The Low End Theory's cover over the rest of them.
- ThaDRD, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1Bushwick Bill rules.
- maxwelliott, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1I really liked this. i found most of the author's commentary non-trivial, if not profound
- alexsk8ca, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1Yeah the Roots have had some sick covers, I think Wu Tang's Iron Flag is one of the best also.
- sheriffart, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1Nice, simple, and marijuana-y
- quamb, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1Yeah what a crap list. That slim shady cover is ***** imo. But it IS a list. Therefore will see front page of digg.
- dmcsier, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1When I was little, my father was famous. He was the greatest samurai in the empire - and he was the Shogun's decapitator. He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty-one lords. It was a bad time for the empire. The Shogun just stayed inside his castle - and he never came out. People said his brain was infected by devils. My father would come home - he would forget about the killings. He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him. Maybe that was the problem. Then, one night everything changed. The Shogun sent his ninja spies to our house. They were supposed to kill my father, but they didn't. That was the night everything changed...
- MicControl, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Decent list but a lot of classic covers are missing
