- Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+51She's wonderful, but I'd still pick the opera-singing cellphone salesman...holy crap, did this guy catch me off guard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA - cam2009, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30How many six year olds do you know that can even sing on key? Close your eyes and listen to it, it could easily be in the background of a movie or pass as being done by a professional. Yeah, she might have a little trouble finding another song that's as easy to sing and shows off range, but for God's sake, she sang that without her front teeth!
- webcure, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Really wonderful, wonderful rendition.
Beauty. - Waterispoison, on 10/11/2007, -11/+25Whatever you say, pedo
- wastern, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15@ksponge
Even so, she is 6 with no formal training. She could correct those tiny imperfections with a little training and go far. She is far ahead of most - unitethenations, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13"The 6 year old singing sensation that will make Simon Cowell millions"
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -3/+15@ flashdance07
What the ***** was that for you ass? She's 6, restrain yourself please. - grizwald, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12***** .. have you guys seen Charlotte Church lately?
needless to say, she has grown up ... wow. - directedition, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19Screw the opera guy, he has incredible talent. We're going with the cuter little girl who has talent.
- anagoge, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14I know this may come as bit of a shock to you, Don, but the UK has some celebrities too, some of which Americans may not have heard of, but those reading the Daily Mail (A UK newspaper) will have.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_Church - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Ive had those kind of ***** too, had to go to the doctor because it created a fissure and i would have bloody *****. At first thought it was cancer.
- drgori, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Agreed. The girl was a beautiful singer. But she didn't get to me nearly as much as much as the man with the crappy job and no self-confidence getting his one chance at a dream, in front of millions -- and acing it.
- salimai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8@ksponge
Did you forget that she's six years old? Nearly any professional singer of any level singing any genre will go off key from time to time, even with their years of experience and training many times longer than this little girl has even been alive. People saying she was perfect are definitely sensationalizing, but she was phenomenal - even without considering her age. You're being far too critical man.. - schmons, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqVqJ1HLHNo
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6GOOD LORD!!!! This guy is fantastic! Didn't expect that at all. I don't like opera but man this guy have been goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes. I have never had that happen before. What an amazing voice. I guess I have found a new show to follow. Thanks guys!
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Let's see you do better.
- shagie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6***** made me nearly cry
- anagoge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Paul Potts has an amazing voice. As you saw from the reactions of the judges and the crowd, he really instills such emotion. However, I don't believe that he'd succeed in a national (or global) market because opera just isn't as popular as something that the wonderful Connie could sing. I do hope both of them are successful, though.
- CkMaverick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What an unbelievably complicated choice =P While the girl is sure to be a phenom in the singing world, she has many years to develop. The opera singer is in an elite class already and is surely as his pinnacle. It's the cutest little girl phenom on earth versus the emotional elite cell phone selling opera singer =P and I think the opera guy is the one who deserves to move on. Though, who the hell on this earth, at the end of this competition, is going to tell the little girl she lost? =P I don't think even Simon could make that announcement/evaluation. Either way I think both of them are signed to something no matter what after this competition so either way its a win/win.
@flashdance07
Goto hell you bastard. I am sure she is a vast improvement compared to your face at any age. I am sure in 12 years you will be drooling at pictures of her while she is on a national concert tour. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Dude, the little girl is good but does not compare to the cellphone guy. It will be interesting to see if they both can do as well as the show goes on. Cellphone guy blew me away...
@Flashdance07:
WTF is up with you? - ShadedSpriter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4She is one of the 3 really great singers in this show
1. Her
2. Another little girl who sang a song from "my fair lady"
3. a mobile phone salesman who sings opera (and had crappy sound quality tonight but still got through.) - sleepyness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Anyone have a link to a video with better sound? That youtube pos surely doesn't do justice...
- anagoge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I really don't get it.
- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4100% agree.
I usually dislike opera... but there was something in the way he preformed that even got to me. - NormalVisual, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4pinata - re: 6-year olds and vibrato - she's not using a vibrato. She's got a pretty damn good tremolo for a 6-year old though, and it's hard to find singers that even know the difference between the two, much less be able do a tremolo well.
- tcquad, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7Her rendition is very powerful due to the juxtaposition of youth and innocence with a song that is being sung with tremendous depth and sadness. It catches you off-guard, though the backstory does lend some insight. She began singing to cheer up her sick grandmother sick, using the Wizard of Oz DVD. She also sang this same song at the grandmother's funeral. While she was too young to understand the implications of what was going on around her, she would've been able to pick up on the sadness around her, and that's reflected in her singing voice.
If she can switch gears and move to a more up-tempo or up-beat song, which would be what you'd expect a young singer to have, she could be a very nice singing career ahead of her, being able to develop power and experience along with her range while her singing peers are still crooning into hairbrushes. If not, she'll enjoy this moment. She may be able to develop later or maybe this will be the apex of her career, but either way, it's nice to watch.
On a separate note, I much prefer these underdog moments (this girl, the opera-singing guy mentioned elsewhere in the comments) to the glorified popularity contest that is "American Idol". - sleepyness, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Much better, thanks!
- hobophobe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm a little bit confused. Never seen this show so I don't know if they always just sing two verses of a song or what, but I'd have thought they'd have her sing the whole song, especially if she's a good singer (which she is).
Kind of crummy to just have a little girl sing a couple verses and then stop. - murraj2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Is there a youtube video yet for Paul, the opera guy's performance, that he gave tonight. I few people mentioned it, but I'd like to see how he did.
- kensterdotnet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I wish they could both win :/
- simplejoe79, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WOWWWW!! that was really amazing.......
- MDtech, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Although his portrayal as a phone salesman may be technically accurate, I feel it may be a bit disingenuous. It seems as if he is classically trained, already accomplished (professional) opera singer. Of course leaving out these details makes for better TV.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Potts - pinata, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3She is very good, but it's not necessarily healthy.
As a music major in vocal performance, I can tell you with some authority that attempting to force a voice to develop too early can do serious damage later on. Six year old children almost never have a vibrato, which should be given time to develop naturally.
Exercising the voice is like exercising the body- it's unhealthy to start too young, and can cause problems later. - darrrrren, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the mobile phone guy ( paul potts ) sang really good tonight. he is obviously going to either win or come down to the final cut.
but theres something about this little girl's voice.... the way it resonates is beautiful! although, as she grows it may change. i just hope the parents dont turn her into a showpiece. either way, we shall see if she can sing a variety of songs, or if she just does this one well. - vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2That was WONDERFUL!
May the number of DIGGs be as elevating and spectacular as young Miss Connie Talbot's voice and personality!
I, for one, humbly welcome our six-year-old Musical Overlord!!! - xGeneric, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow, I thought she was pretty good. I don't know if she'll be a superstar when she grows up, but at 6 that is really.... really good.
- st00dy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1We don't have pop idol anymore - it's all about 'The X-Factor' now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X_Factor_%28TV_series%29#The_X_Factor_around_the_world).
Paul Potts is gonna win this show... it's like Piers Morgan said last night (paraphrasing) "We're looking for the everyman hero". Children with talent are just a bit too... freakish. - b3mus3d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's up to the act how long they want to go on, but if all three judges hit a buzzer then they have to stop.
- KyotoWolf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkt5tEwgrrk
Is that the second girl? - digitaltrav, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What is a bigger deal in Britian: Britian's Got Talent, or Britian's Pop Idol?
- floejoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ksponge
If you are so good then how come we never heard of you?
Plus she was judged by qualified and professional judges so I am more inclined to trust their opinion than yours. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WTF is wrong with you?
- Dustin00, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Sooo.. she's 100 pounds already?
- 19to74, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow that it unbelievable. She has to credit it to her 39.99 GBP karaoke machine.:)
- williamsj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I tend to agree that the direction of the programme were controlled by performer placement, but the two obvious contenders for the 1st place were Paul and Connie. I personally would not like to have to pick between them, but I agree that a six year old should not get the kind of pressure that exists in this level of performance, therefore I can agree that Paul should have won...
BUT Simon if you are looking, I would love to see an album cut by Connie soon :-)
Cheers - plutpwnium, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Obviously that one girl with no experience pwned your "friends" (*cough*), otherwise she would not have made it as far as she did.
- nutzngum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0i was totally taken aback - i actually had to turn it off as i was at work and didn't want to start weeping at my monitor. :D
- sayntin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Why is Britain Got Talent sooo much better than the American version. Its slicker, better production values, great background music when talking to people before they perform. The hosts do more and say more. (Springer, keep your shirt on)
The show knows how to evoke emotion, and always ends on a high note. The one on NBC is crap compared to this version. Thank god for torrent so I can download the better version. - BrokenVisage, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You know it's a lot harder to make a millionaire then it is to make a million dollars. Good for her!
