The 10 Fiercest British Frontmen Of The Past Decade
blog.muchmusic.com — A band's most lasting impression is made with a dynamic, charismatic leader who represents the group and presents all of their hard work where it matters most: in a live setting. It takes a mind-boggling amount of stamina and hunger to wow the crowds night after night with the same amount of intensity and passion throughout a tour.

- doctorinfierno, on 07/18/2008, -8/+11Awesome bands. Top: Muse and Kaiser Chiefs!
- invertedtwisted, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9Saw Muse back in November 2006, it was indeed perhaps the best show I've ever seen. Love listening to the bootleg of the show and being taken right back... bloody incredible.
- danjwray, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5Seriously? This list has a lot of overlaps with my list of 'loudmouth celebrity ***** in ***** bands'.
Exceptions are Bellamy, Cocker and Gahan. - Tyorant, on 07/18/2008, -0/+13Muse yes, Kaiser Chiefs big ***** no.
- Absentee, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2This ^
Kaiser Chiefs are craptacular.
This list FAILS for not having Thom Yorke or Ian Curtis in it. - antoniuk, on 07/18/2008, -7/+1Kaiser Chiefs yes, "One hit wonder" Muse big ***** no.
- Tyorant, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3You're calling Muse a one hit wonder band? You're crazy.
Have you ever looked at the Kaiser Cheif's music? They manage to kill practically all their songs (even those with promise) in one way or another - Disillusion, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Muse is amazing. They have been really popular in europe for quite a while, and I've been listening to them since 2002. You have no idea what you're talking about antoniuk.
- Misanthrope, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2@antoniuk
You're kind of stupid, aren't you?
- Absentee, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2This ^
- JBrown99, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6I saw Muse in Toronto last year, and it was definitely the best show I've seen, despite getting puked on. They are absolutely amazing either live or recorded. Been a huge fan since 2004.
- jimmypoops, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Please tell us more about the puking incident, my curiosity is aroused.
- over9k, on 07/18/2008, -3/+0RELOADED? More like RETARDED. Their cracks are constantly nuked.

- bombula, on 07/18/2008, -7/+14"It takes a mind-boggling amount of stamina and hunger to wow the crowds night after night with the same amount of intensity and passion throughout a tour."
Oh boo-hoo, being a gazillionaire rockstar is such a hard life...- gooberguy, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8uh no. sure they are better off then like 95% of the people out there, but it is hard.
- Dundasbro, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Just because the perks are high doesn't mean that it can't take a lot out of you at the same time.
- Misanthrope, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4That quote didn't mention anything about a hard life. Just that it takes a lot of energy to maintain a high-level performance night after night. I don't think being rich changes that fact.
- jarjarwang, on 07/18/2008, -18/+3They still have rock music?
- bobsander87, on 07/18/2008, -4/+39No Dickinson? Buried.

- MuRf07, on 07/18/2008, -11/+2Dickinson great singer but a complete *****!!
- notoneofus, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2To be fair, the article does have the words "Of The Past Decade," but that should have limited Depeche Mode's inclusion as well.
- raublekick, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9Hey, Iron Maiden has put out 4 albums in the past 10 years and has been touring a lot...
- notoneofus, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1@raublekick: True, and looking at the list again, some of the others are quite a bit older as well.
- lithera, on 07/18/2008, -2/+6No Bruce Dickinson, no Ozzy Osbourne..
A pathetic list, buried. - slsashrk, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4Your comment was all I needed to see so I didn't waste my time on this article. Up for you and on to the next.

***** YOU. - WildTurkey101, on 07/18/2008, -3/+2Shove it up your ASS. Since when are individuals not allowed to voice an opinion. That still does not distract from the fact that this is a ***** list and Lame. So go ***** YOURSELF.
- ChayD, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Top ten most irritating top-ten lists according to WildTurkey
- AwesomeInTheory, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Since when are you the sole arbitor as to who gets to voice an opinion? This submission was someone voicing their opinion. You might not like it, but what the hell does calling someone an ***** have to do with their opinion?

- thankyoupatrick, on 07/18/2008, -3/+13Where is the profile setting to remove Top List items? I'm tired of thinking I've visited funfacts.com... And Freddie Mercury is the fiercest british frontman of all time, that's all anyone needs to know. The last decade can kiss my ass.
- doingallright, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3couldn't of had said it better myself.

- jnoodles, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4Hey, welcome to the world outside of America
- DeadSkinMask, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9By "Fiercest", do they really mean "Greasiest"?
...or do they all look like that now-a-days?- comply, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4agreed. lame list.
- MysticSavage, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3I'm going with "gayest".
- Lewie, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I didn't see anyone "fierce" on that list. I mean, COLDPLAY (Chris Martin) is on that list! WTF! Buried for confusing "fierce" with "whiny".
- BarriedaleNick, on 07/18/2008, -2/+22Wow Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Razorlight, Pulp...
If you think these are fronted by fierce frontmen then I suggest you get out of the cave - hermit.- alperea, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I've seen Depeche Mode in concert, and Mr. Mode does do well with the crowd. I was surprised.
- SolidBones, on 07/18/2008, -5/+3Fierce *British* frontmen. These guys would get their asses kicked in Germany.
- meatmcguffin, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Two world wars and one world cup...
- crammaz, on 07/18/2008, -2/+6When the Kaiser Chiefs played in Perth (my home town) a couple of years ago during the song 'everyday I love you less and less' the lead singer crowd surfer over the top of me... I'm not gonna lie, I grabbed his inner thigh... I mean I'm not gay... but you know... wouldn't you...
- mojoel, on 07/18/2008, -12/+5Holy crap today's music sucks!
- ncapone, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6"Today's" music? Depeche Mode has been around for almost 30 years!
- AustinMeoang, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3And they're awesome.
- ncapone, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6"Today's" music? Depeche Mode has been around for almost 30 years!
- easypie, on 07/18/2008, -6/+2RUP TADUP RUP RUP!
BURIED!! - jalapeno, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8Buried for using the word "Fiercest", and I'm with WildTurkey101 these stupid lists are getting old
- WildTurkey101, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Amen. Yet, this stupid topic keeps growing with Digg's. Absurd.
- fish42, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Fiercest and cold play are mutually exclusive, unless its talking about the rabid dog attack i think of when i hear their music.
oh and lists
- Walcherina, on 07/18/2008, -8/+1I think I saw most these guys on the The Top Ten Worst Teeth list as well.
- DivineComedy, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2So ***** original.
- MikeFromAmerica, on 07/18/2008, -7/+5No Gavin Rossdale (from Bush)?
- oncee, on 07/18/2008, -3/+4Come on. No Ian Curtis.
- JimSwarthow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3"..of the past decade"
catch up, yo - amida, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3How could Ian Curtis be one of the fiercest frontmen of the past decade when he's been dead for almost three decades?
- JimSwarthow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3"..of the past decade"
- ncapone, on 07/18/2008, -2/+16No frontman compares to Freddie Mercury. Period.
- Nidy1, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1He sung amazing live and kept the crowd interested.

New album coming soon
http://theverve.tv/
- hutchy, on 07/18/2008, -2/+22Coldplay, fierce? I think not!
- Chantal76, on 07/18/2008, -0/+17dugg for Muse bad ass performance
- philhatesyou, on 07/18/2008, -0/+10So, when they say fierce, I assume they mean it in the same way that a gay man means when he says fierce, because the guys on this list are a bunch of little bitches. The guy from Coldplay? Come the ***** on. What the hell happened to frontmen who were real honest to goodness assholes? Ozzy bit the ***** head off of a bat, and Johnny Rotten was such an ***** he antagonized the crowd to the point his bassist had to beat an audience member with a bass. Compared to those old men, these guys may as well be singing "How much is that doggy in the window."
- ChayD, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Maybe it's relatively speaking. It's all gone a bit bland since the 70s.
- danharlow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Preach it, brother!
I can't believe embracing your inner pussy means you get to be a rock star these days. At least call this music by another name because it ain't rock. Rock stars are supposed to insert dead fish bits into a girls snatch or piss on the crowd or die real ***** young.
I blame Bono. If it were not for him and his little "band" making causes "cool", there would be allot better music in the world.
- zombiecarlin, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Chris Martin and Tom Chaplin have about as much charisma as my todger after 17 pints of cider. I agree with the others on the list but these two simply can't cut it.
- racco, on 07/18/2008, -2/+10Chris Martin fierce!?!?!?
no John Lydon??
buried for not knowing what the word 'fierce' means- notoneofus, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4True, but you can't discount Matt Bellamy's fierceness. This guy rocks so hard he often hurts himself.
- Dnuts, on 07/18/2008, -0/+12How about Thom Yorke?
- AwesomeInTheory, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Totally read my mind. How Radiohead got zero consideration compared to Boreplay boggles me.
- gplpark92, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1seriously, yorke alone is easily better than the majority on the list.
- JimSwarthow, on 07/18/2008, -7/+2Tom Chaplin, Chris Martin or Dave Gahan are “fierce”? and Europeans wonder why the rest of the world doesn’t take their masculinity seriously
- waydee, on 07/18/2008, -2/+5You think we consider these clowns fierce?
This is a North American article, by that logic you lot consider these pussifed soft-rockers fierce.- JimSwarthow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1dude, don't blame us, it's your folks putting money in these guy's pockets. - the average American wouldn't know who Jarvis Cocker was if he walked up to 'em and tossed their salad.
- waydee, on 07/18/2008, -2/+5You think we consider these clowns fierce?
- morg666, on 07/18/2008, -1/+10Where is Lemmy? This list is *****.
- toddc612, on 07/18/2008, -4/+0The article states the past ten years -- open your eyes.
Besides, Lemmy? Are you serious? At least everyone on this list has style and can sing.- Coffeedemon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Lemmy does not have style? It might not be something you'll see walking 5th Avenue in an Armani suit but that man does have style. ...kids these days.
Plus Motorhead has released several albums in the last decade.
- Coffeedemon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Lemmy does not have style? It might not be something you'll see walking 5th Avenue in an Armani suit but that man does have style. ...kids these days.
- gmeluski, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Agreed. He was the first name I was looking for on this list.
- toddc612, on 07/18/2008, -4/+0The article states the past ten years -- open your eyes.
- zadadka, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2With the possible exception of Chris Martin, each is a veritable d*ckhead.
The list also missed that other waste of space and breathable air, Peter Doherty.- waydee, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Not that I'm a fan of Pete but at least he knows how to be a proper British rockstar - he's the only one of these current breed of poseur clowns that I know will die in a puddle of opiate induced vomit.
- username7410, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1With the EXCEPTION of Chris Martin? Veritable ***** of the 21st Century IMO.
- zadadka, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1....POSSIBLE exception .....
YMMV :)
- zadadka, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1....POSSIBLE exception .....
- waydee, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Not that I'm a fan of Pete but at least he knows how to be a proper British rockstar - he's the only one of these current breed of poseur clowns that I know will die in a puddle of opiate induced vomit.
- galvo, on 07/18/2008, -14/+2"British" and "fierce" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Except when describing how jagged and disgusting their teeth tend to be.
- jnoodles, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Ah, you must have recently graduated from the school of ignorant idiots that believe stereotypes. Congrats!
- ChayD, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I don't normally rise to the bait, but....
KEEP YOUR ***** LAME, INACCURATE, DATED STEREOTYPES TO YOURSELF. - galvo, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1Who said anything about stereotypes?
- EnderMB, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2You've gotta be kidding me.
Johnny Borrell is a *****, pure and simple. Razorlight are an okay band, but not even a fraction as good as he seems to believe they are. His best days were left behind with The Libertines.
Ricky Wilson, though, is great. He's a top guy and the Kaiser Chiefs are a top band. - MuRf07, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Dugg for Ashcroft!!!!
Man is a ledged, most underrated songwriter of modern times!!
and also comes across as being intelligent in interviews etc unlike many of the others! - SRSco, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4I wish there was an option to block all lists from showing up on Digg. I'm fed up.
Also, "fierce?" Who wrote this? Tyra Banks? - jabbajabba, on 07/18/2008, -3/+3Depeche mode???? If it is the fiercest frontmen what about Keith Flint from the prodigy?
Lame fricking top ***** posts. Coldplay's Chris martin??? WTF? - DrunkenDigger, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1buried
- digghasnoethics, on 07/18/2008, -1/+14Fierce? This bunch? Most of them are just pansies.
In no sense, aggression or showmanship can most of these be considered anything other than embarrassing.
The most immediate person that comes to mind when you talk of fierce frontmen is Lemmy. This quote tells you why:
"Ireland's Ballyhoo Examiner newspaper has issued the following "correction" to a previously published article: "Lawyers for wild man rock star Lemmy have complained about a story in Saturday's Ballyhoo Examiner entitled 'MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy In Bondage Romp', which told how the 55-year-old MOTÖRHEAD rocker handcuffed his lover to the bed for a three-day sex and bondage session. Mr. Lemmy's solicitors said: 'It was not three days and she was not handcuffed to the bed. It was seven days and she was hung from the ceiling.' We apologise unreservedly to Mr. Lemmy for any damage caused to his reputation."- MysticSavage, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1That is fan-*****-tastic. However, I would never call Lemmy fierce. He might break my legs.
- Pronoiac, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5I love how the title says "fierce" and then goes on to describe them as "sexy, swaggering frontman who knows he's a hottie and really woos the crowd." "the quintessential gentleman" "generally nice guy" "unassuming dudes" and worst of all "a sexy, sweaty mess".
I understand that there are differences between the English that is spoken in the variety of countries that speak it but when I think of "fierce" I think of a guy who rocks so hard I'm afraid for my life. Somebody who's ***** insane and likes to break stuff and might actually jump into the crow with and kill me. Not some soft-spoken British guy who I'd spend a day sailboating in Cape Cod and reciting poetry with while and then wind down the day with a bottle of white zinfandel and sweaty, but gentle, gay sex.- Pronoiac, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Edited it and left in some extra words...
- jnoodles, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I'm guessing the author doesn't know the meaning of the word fierce because there's no difference on either side of the atlantic as far as I'm concerned.
- ChayD, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I think the definition of Fierce is the same in the U.K. clearly the writer has never seen a real HARD ROCKIN', CURSING, POUNDING, EAR BLEEDING, GUITAR SMASHING band yet.
- gmeluski, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2the last two replies made me laugh hard enough to soothe my anger at being deceived into reading this list.
- waydee, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Far too many pussified pop-indie acts on this list for me to take it seriously.
Razorlight?, Kaiser Cheifs? Coldplay? Seriously? the absolute icing on the cake is Keane, perhaps the best example of whiny cookie-cutter soft-rock ever.- AwesomeInTheory, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I'm amazed that the wanker from Snow Patrol didn't make it on.
- JeTed, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7That Depeche Mode concert. Wow. I haven't seen a German crowd react that obediently since...
- LAZZOR, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1100 Internets to you sir.
- HardSide, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1Horrible list, if i wanted a poppy british list id go to mtv.
- RNEMESiS42, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Dugg for Depeche Mode and Dave Gahan...was not expecting that at all!
- tenspeedogbb, on 07/18/2008, -2/+7Where was Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys?
- kevyn, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1being a little bitch somewhere
- JBrown99, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Dugg for Bellamy.
- locodude, on 07/18/2008, -1/+7Buried for only containing frontmen of indie-pop-*****-bands. Where the hell are Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Lemmy, Ozzy Osbourne and Cronos to name but a few? Anyone of those guys would've destroyed the complete cast of the sissy-list when they were in their prime, and Cronos still would today. FAIL.
- ballsnark, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Partially agree. Halford might still put on a good show, but he's way out of prime. Ozzy stopped being awesome over 15 years ago and Lemmy continues to turn lesbians straight and leaves venues decimated. Bruce Dickinson? if there was a number 0 for this he deserves. That man probably puts on the best show I've seen, every time I see him. Ozzy still sucks though. I hate Ozzy.
- ctenn2ls, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1It's funny, Cronos became a software engineer between Venom stints. He can kill on bass and code.
- MaxMWood, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6Johnny Rotten?
- Nickedynick, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Ok, so it's fierce frontmen in this list. Great. So why the hell are bands like Coldplay, Keane and Razorlight mentioned?! They've gotta be the furthest from fierce that this entire country has to offer!
Where's Tom Meighan from Kasabian? He's gotta be in there if Ricky Wilson gets a mention. What about old greats? Ozzy? Robert Plant? Why does anyone care about Tom Chaplin?! - Tamoki, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3WHERE IS DAMON ALBARN?
Come on, no one even mentioned him in the comments.- toddc612, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Amen, brother!
Surely Blue should make the list if the Roses, Verve, and Oasis do.. crickey!- Owwmykneecap, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I love blue.
All rise....
ha - toddc612, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Opps. BLUR.
Damn that typo!
- Owwmykneecap, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I love blue.
- toddc612, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Amen, brother!
- mikegifford, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I think we just need to give Muchmusic credit for not putting Madonna at the top of this list. Ever seen Listed?
- 1807, on 07/18/2008, -6/+1Where is Robert Plant? Maynard James Keenan? Trent Reznor? Axel Rose?
- doctorinfierno, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Dude I totally agree with you about Robert Plant. Trent and Maynard are complete badasses, but not britsh. And Axel, well, meh...
- JBrown99, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Maynard James Keenan, Trent Reznor, and Axl Rose are all American....And Robert Plant (while absolutely amazing) is not 'of the past decade'.
You fail.- doctorinfierno, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Actually if you listen to the 2005 Mighty Rearranger album you'll notice Robert Plant is still active as a musician, and by the standards of this list, fierce, I guess
- JBrown99, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1True, he does tour and stuff, but I guess I was under the impression that it meant rising acts of the past decade. Either way, the list sucks.
- punx, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1Joe Strummer, Johnny Rotten, Freddie Mercury, Rob Halford, Ozzy... I'm sorry, but WAS there any great frontman in an English band in the last decade? I didn't even know. They seem all pansy to me now, so I would think you'd have to go back a little further to come up with any good English frontmen.
- JamesMatt, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6i know its the past decade.......................but Ian Curtis Joy Division....legend
