- ByronT, on 11/12/2007, -17/+81Who is this nobody? Screw this, I'm going back to listening to Fallout Boy and My Chemical Romance.
/s - sparkmonkeyz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+54He doesn't really "own" them, but he sure does a awesome job making a unique style of music, especially for 35 years ago.
- flamingmb, on 11/12/2007, -26/+63I still like daft punk better.
- davidave, on 10/11/2007, -15/+45uhhh so using an instrument first gives you indefinite rights to that instrument till the end of time?
- acarr, on 10/11/2007, -5/+32When you're Stevie Wonder it does.
- mediaphile, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29Owns? More like Stevie Wonder is a large inspiration to Daft Punk. Besides, talk boxes are not vocoders, though I guess you could say they're the analog version.
Everybody knows Stevie Wonder kicks ass. There was never any question about it. - mindsnare, on 10/23/2007, -3/+24Stupid title,
good video - squeevey, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24uh...peter frampton anyone?
- cJeremy, on 11/12/2007, -5/+25has nothing to do with daft punk at all.
- joemofo214, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29theres no ownage her, alotta musicians use talk boxes, nothing old or new.
- Shando, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Yeah, it kinda says that in the title -_-
- rauz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13You don't have a clue about music, do you?
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -1/+12Stevie Wonder pretty much owns music.
- resplence, on 11/12/2007, -2/+10cool, a/s/l
- Joeymad, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10alotta fagina
- stubadub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Daft Punk's first album, Homework, was certified gold in the US in 2001 with 500,00 sales.
Daft Punk's second album, Discovery, had racked up at least 1.8 million in sales by 2003
The more you know... - Emilio8605, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7He also has the rights to being blind, and to dreadlocks.
- twentysf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You are honestly claiming that Daft Punk has more "hits" than Stevie Wonder? I'm not going to argue about who is better, or whose music someone might prefer more (as they are completely subjective, and nobody's opinion is inherently more "correct" than anyone elses), but I have to disagree bigtime there. According to wikipedia, Stevie Wonder has 34 singles which have reached the top 10 in the US and UK (oh, and 12 albums).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Wonder#U.S._and_UK_Top_Ten_singles
Daft Punk has... three albums (none of which have made the top 10)... and 3 singles which made the UK top 10.
And as to your claim that "if he did, it would be songs that he didn't make"... in addition to writing all his songs, he also plays pretty much every intrument in the studio versions.
I'm not trying to dis Daft Punk (I think they're awesome), but they aren't even in the same hemisphere "hit-wise" as Stevie Wonder. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I'm just nitpicking, but I think the most famous use of the talk box that people associate with it is from Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do". Walsh did it before Frampton, though. Great clip from Stevie Wonder above. If you dig the old, funky Stevie Wonder and not the older boring Stevie Wonder....here's a clip of him just destroying "Superstition" on Sesame Street, of all places:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul7X5js1vE - PATSCRU, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7I just saw daft punk last night in la, and while i'm a huge stevie wonder fan, watching 2 godlike robots bring heat from inside a 3 story full color lcd screen amidst 13000 people going nuts and smiling and screaming with their arms up. They had light up LED strip tron suits for christ sake, and a circle of led strips that went around the whole entire arena....absolutely insane.
- Cybrwolf, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12LOL! Sarcasm is such a wonderful thing!
- CannibalTom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5this isn't WoW, no one got owned.
- stubadub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5As much as I love Daft Punk, I really hope your joking. Stevie Wonder has more hit songs than Daft Punk have songs, and he wrote pretty much all his own music.
- WoundedTownsmen, on 11/12/2007, -2/+6Wow. A topic centered on the talkbox, and not a single mention of Roger Troutman of Zapp and Roger. He's often considered the greatest talkboxer and one of the few to actually master using it.
Heres a digg appropriate example, Computer Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HftQgBZ-Ou8 - DrNoDoze, on 11/12/2007, -0/+4If i could dig this comment 100 times I would.
- stubadub, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Daft Punk love goes well beyond the boundaries of Digg. They are one of the biggest acts to ever come from the electronic scene.
Even Kanye West has Daft Punk love! - luke16, on 11/12/2007, -2/+5Did anyone see Daft Punks Electroma? It was was very weird but very good, a bit too long though. Most people would say its utter crap but they just don't understand.
- mu0p, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3
Daft Punk's inspiration purely comes from funk/disco.....they sample old funk/disco and create awesome re-works/songs
So "owning" daft punk is a dumb title...
Daft Punk are actually on tour right now selling out EVERY show in EVERY cities huge arena's
ive seen them 3 times already
Just saw them last night in LA.
they set the standard VERY high for the whole electronic scene, one of the best live shows ive seen in my life, and ive been to plenty. - strafefire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But Jimmi Hendrix does pwn every other guitarist ever...so I fail to see your point here...
- bobbyi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No, just until Frampton Comes Alive is released.
- RobotKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box
- overacid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else notice that the section where they show the birds eye view of the keyboards? (1:30) They mirror imaged the shot, which is fine, but it really messed with my musician head hearing the notes get lower and seeing his hand moving up the scale..... For a second there i thought he had a left handed opposite key layout.. but if you look closely he's using his right hand to play in every other shot, then the birds eye view swaps to his left hand. Mirror image brain fry.
- InitialDMP5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2actually the guy who revolutionized the talk box was Roger Troutman, of Zapp and Roger. He was influenced by Stevie Wonders use of it, and really took on the instrument. He has a huge library of songs where he sings using the talk box exclusively.
- JayBabs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2haha!
-that made my day - pmarks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can also see this instrument used in "Needy Girl" by Chromeo:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kXuESUaESHY - sporkyzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2the instrument in the stevie wonder video isn't a vocoder. it's a talk box. maybe you should research before you flaunt your expertise.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocoder#Other_voice_effects - bodd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3See nothing is new! How cool would that have been to be there & hear that ;-)

- heversle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I didn't know Stevie Wonder and Daft Punk had beef. Hmm...guess you learn something new everyday.

- saggygrandma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you justed owned that comment, OWNED!
- afbase, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4while being two completely different styles of music that really isn't comparable. DP would put on a better show live. I went to one in Los Angeles last night!
- JeffD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hes all talk, he hasnt even sumbitted it yet. (I was all ready to digg up his "Jimi Hendrix owns Every guitarist ever" video but I couldnt find it on his profile).
- mediaphile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Daft punk use vocoders, not talkboxes. How would they get the tube through their robot helmets?
- mediaphile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ever tried Reason? You might like it more. Reason has a vocoder as well.
- RaggTopp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anyone else notice how when Stevie get's all excited and REALLY in to what he's playing he looks like a cat who's getting their "magic spot" scratched?
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So is stating the obvious.
- unfinite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1small ears
- Le3f, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Chromeo uses a talk box in a large portion of their songs, pretty cool indeed
