- smalleststep, on 08/08/2008, -2/+77"....and former guitarist and Cinnabon daytime supervisor Kim Thayil working the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift."
Hahahhahhahhaahhaaa - rectifier, on 08/08/2008, -0/+49You got me
- IamNOTmrT, on 08/08/2008, -3/+43That headline made my day for about five seconds before I realised what site it was pointing to. I love a strategically placed Onion article, but why did they have to get my hopes up? Why not write this about a ***** band that nobody ever gave a damn about? Soundgarden need to reunite, even if someone has to abduct them all seperately just to get them back together.
I live in hope. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -2/+40"Cornell, former singer for the now-defunct group Audioslave, then stuffed his pockets with napkins, saying he needed them for a later solo project."
It can't sound any worse than the ***** he's making with Timbaland now..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsPLOLizv5o - Apocalyptic0n3, on 08/08/2008, -0/+33You have no idea how excited I was to read that. I didn't even look at what site was reporting it. Then I clicked the link and realized I had been Onion'd (It's the Onion equivalent of Rick Roll'd). Damn.
- b166er, on 08/08/2008, -0/+26damn onion. For a moment there I thought my day was going to get better.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+22i actually got excited there, till i saw that damn onion. ***** man.
- Soniti, on 08/08/2008, -0/+19I was so ***** excited for a minute there... Damn Onion.
- Otto, on 08/08/2008, -1/+19"In turn, the 44-year-old lead singer responded by serenading Thayil with a version of the group's hit song "Black Hole Sun" in which he replaced the titular phrase with the word "Cinnabon." Cornell, former singer for the now-defunct group Audioslave, then stuffed his pockets with napkins, saying he needed them for a later solo project."
LOL!!! - ChapelJuice, on 08/08/2008, -1/+17...meanwhile across from the food court, band members of Candlebox inadvertently met up at a Claire's accessories store because of a buy-one-get-one-free ear piercing promotion. Weird.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+13And every other mall in America.
- Unlgued, on 08/08/2008, -0/+13I was totally Onion'd.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -7/+20Would have loved to been there but I don't frequent my local Cinnabon so I guess my chances are slim.
- rinote, on 08/08/2008, -1/+12Goddamnit, Onion. Don't play with my emotions like that!
- sodade, on 08/08/2008, -0/+11First off, that was ***** brilliant, even for the onion which excels at this kind of brilliance.
2nd off, Soundgarden is the only "grunge" band that wrote music that still resonates today without coming off as anachronistic. Particularly the last two (I am a big fan of the 1st 3, but they do sound a bit dated these days). Superunknown is a masterpiece of rock that no one has come close to touching since.
Too bad Chris Cornell has sucked ass with every effort post soundgarden - it really shows how important the rest of the band was in their sound. Matt and Ben have been involved in interesting projects, but WTF happened to Kim? Is he really the Cinnebon daytime supervisor? - graahBrains, on 08/08/2008, -0/+10Onion, you make my day again... Wait, what was Blackhole Sun about?
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -2/+10dugg for accuracy. there actually is a cinnabon @ northgate... http://www.simon.com/mall/tenant_details.aspx?ID=2 ...
- jojopumpkin, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8They left out the part where Cornell coughs up a lung while trying to sing anything off of "Louder than Love"
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+7Yeah, masturbating jokes, I know.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8Cinnabon won't you come and wash away the rain?
- wrathchilde, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8It wouldn't have happened if Cornell didn't keep his Good Eye Closed.
- drewniverse, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8Chris Cornell never wears a shirt.. ever. Even when he's buying cinnabuns!
- RANDOM667, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7Do I smell a paid promo for Cinnabon?
I can hear Cornell singing:
I'm gonna break my rusty cage, and get a Cinnabon!
j/k - shadowofdeath15, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6They actually did reunite and have a new album coming out this tuesday! It's called "Into the Sun".
- wrathchilde, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Nothrgate is way the hell away from downtown Seattle, and it was the first mall in America.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6FTA: "then stuffed his pockets with napkins, saying he needed them for a later solo project."
I've done that solo project too. - Elliuotatar, on 08/08/2008, -6/+11I don't think you got that.
- SanTe, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5"Superunknown is a masterpiece of rock that no one has come close to touching since."
This man knows what he's talking about.
"Too bad Chris Cornell has sucked ass with every effort post soundgarden"
This man really knows what he's talking about. Although to be fair the first Audioslave record has its moments.
"but WTF happened to Kim? Is he really the Cinnebon daytime supervisor?"
I once was told, years ago, that he is a bit of a hermit and spends much of his time in his apartment reading tons of newspapers, but who knows, really. Every once in a blue moon he pops up in the crowd at a show but I think he largely keeps to himself. Too bad because he's actually one of the most interesting people in the world of rock to listen to. I always thought he should have his own radio show. MTV should resurrect Headbanger's Ball, as it used to be in the good old days, and have Kim host it. - teethandeyes, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6I don't understand people who don't find the Onion funny. It conistently has some of the more hilarious writing I have stumbled across.
- alexelder, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6That was a seriously major buzz-kill. I was über-excited till I found out it was an Onion article
- stonebone4, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5Damn it....I saw the first part of the title and freaked out a little before seeing 'theonion.com.'
You bastards. - nofate2029, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5awesome! wish these dudes would get back together. i never liked audioslave.
- f4nt0m4s, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5"After the success of the Cinnabon reunion, Soundgarden is reportedly planning a tour of the Sunglass Hut and Piercing Pagoda."
Better get your tickets soon, I hear they are selling fast. - sodade, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Totally agree on Kim being an interesting player - his way of phrasing leads made me pay attention despite an aversion to an overdose on wanky guitar during the 80's.
And yeah, I was being a little harsh on Cornell, but that's because my expectations are so high.
"MTV should resurrect Headbanger's Ball, as it used to be in the good old days, and have Kim host it."
***** MTV.
No, some smart kid should start a broadcast site with alternating musician hosts playing ***** they like and telling you why. Eliminate the corporate influence in rock by creating a subculture of music promotion and distribution that isn't dependent on corporate controlled markets . Make money off advertising to fuel "blue-collar" musicians and slowly take the market out from under the RIAA. (easy there tangent man - LOL) - bipolarruledout, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5I don't believe it. He definitely would have made manager by now.
- alexforcefive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I think that's reason number one why soundgarden shouldn't reform - chris cornell has turned into a giant douche
- ByrcheWroot, on 08/08/2008, -2/+5Cornell use to be such a vocal Gawd. Oh my, how far they fall. :(
- bipolarruledout, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3It's OK but it seems to lack a certain edge. As soon as you read the first paragraph you know what the point is and they are just dragging it on like an SNL sketch that should have ended minutes ago.
- ctpmn, on 08/08/2008, -3/+6Got half way through and was like. . . wait. . . is this. . . DARN YOU ONION!!
- gn0stik, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4No he hasn't. He's made a few mistakes, like any artist. But he's also done some pretty awesome ***** solo too. That billie jean cover ***** rocked.
- gn0stik, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I hate the onion.
- uthallan, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I am a ***** idiot... I didn't notice this was the Onion, and was ***** stoked.
The picture looked to photoshopped then i saw it was the onion.... - funkyloki, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3That's one opinion.
- ChrisHardball, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Hilarious! Man, I love Soundgarden.. it would be amazing to bump into one of the guys now that I live in Seattle
- funkyloki, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3IDK why you all are digging this one down, he was right on to point that out
- MrSkills, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2What no RickRoll?
- tito13kfm, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Second time in a week I was had by The Onion. Well written and semi-believable for the first few paragraphs.
- Merp08, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2*****!!!@#$1234!@!!
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2southdale center in edina, mn was the first fully-enclosed climate-controlled mall. northgate was the first regional shopping center described as a mall.
