- atomicpoet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Better article description: Sony will not sue you into oblivion if you promote their product for free. Thank Sony!
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20wait wait wait....
does this mean, unlike other record company's songs,
if I dance to the Sony BMG's musics and post it, I won't be sued???
YOU'RE ON!!!!!
*takes pants off* - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Dude, crap invaded blogs a long time ago.
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20And in the future, you will able to buy a special customized PS3 including a set of free blog songs for only 1200$ ! A real bargain.
I get it sony. You sue the poor bloggers and then you expect them to make money for you. Sweethearts. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I like the direction they're going with this..
Instead of trying to prevent people from discussing, sharing, and promoting bands they like, they're actually supporting them. They've seen that sueing fans are basically just destroying free advertising. So instead they've decided to embrace the free advertising. It's a step in the right direction for sure.
I wish the quality of the videos where a bit better though. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"I highly doubt Sony is large enough to buy Apple."
I could make like your standard poster and call you out on that retarded, fanboyish statement with a retort alone. An electronics company/chip manufacturer vs. a computer/accessory maker. But you know, I like to let the numbers speak:
Sony: $64 billion in yearly revenue (source: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/index.html )
Apple: $3.2 billion (source: http://news.com.com/Apple earnings continue to hum along/2100-1045_3-5669710.html )
I'm no merger deal broker, but to say Sony isn't big enough to buy Apple sounds like one of those off-the-cuff remarks that these forums would be better off without. - rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I'll gladly promote their music and videos on my blog ... if they PAY ME!
After all I would be doing them a service that helps to make them money right? So free won't cut it. As they say in Goodfellas: ***** you, pay me. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They already know how to put in youtube video, and that's flash. Trust me, MySpace kids know too little and too much at the same time.
- outofstep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6they should have done this all along.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Now Bloggers can be corporate shills for FREE.
Wow what a deal!!! - SP33DFR34K, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Yes, I'm sure majority of the people here hate Sony and I will get modded down but here goes. Sony finally gets it.
I just was browing through a couple of music videos and I can't tell you how many pepole would love to see these videos for free.
Look past the geek community to your non-tech savy people, they will love this. It gives them free music and video to watch and its easy to get to. So yes, its defitantely targeted to them and it will work. Once this thing hits Myspace, I gurantee this thing will get very popular. Make it easy to use, free, and just works, and people will use it.
Majority of the tech community are still upset at Sony for whatever reasons. Just accept what they did wrong and embrace what they are doing now, free music videos. - BloodyPath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Steal" music videos??? You mean like I did back in the 90s with my VCR.
That's a pretty euphamistic word for advertising ffs. - Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7don't be too happy.
I BET that there is a term in their huge small font-ed T&C where they OWN your blog the moment you post the videos on your blog. - mr.gates, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sony can't buy Apple, i'm pretty sure 90% of the staff would quit, and create a new company, Berry Which would get sued by Black Berry, then it would be renamed Pear, and overthrow Sony/Apple.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well I want sony to cut the price of their system by half...guess we'll see who caves first.
- Cytranic, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11To Sony: NO!
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Not to mention Flash 8. Yay, thanks for alienating the Linux guys again!!!
- billydisaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So explain exactly why a system or organisation can't be evil? I can think of one or two that would definitely deserve that label.
- joshfraz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7sony, you may think i am living in the past.... but i just can't get over the root kit that you gave me. i still don't want anything to do with you... and no, you can't show ads on my website for free. nice try though.
- tdkme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seems like Sony is desperate and they need average joes to talk them back from out of the basement. "Just forget about the crappy PlayStation 3 and the root kit we denied we put on your computer." They are making Microsoft seem like the good guys!
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is just sony trying to regain lost public appeal. I wish everyone would look at this more open-minded and see exactly whats going on. It's like the president using other problems to divert attention to the NSA spying.
- gerkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This somehow reminds me of a bunch of people bailing rapidly in a sinking ship, and now they just have bigger buckets to bail with. If Sont wants ME to put THEIR music on my site (not that it would ever happen) they shoudl be thinking about paying for it. It is advertising for them so why shouldn't they be paying for it. That and the fact that I haven't given them a single dollar of my hard earned money after the whole rootkit fiasco means that I won't be taking them up on their offer.
- phreakout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahh total control; or promote what we want or we sue your asses off and destroy your blog.
So it's not about 'copyright infringement' it's about complete market control.
If you don't watch the adverts then you are stealing the TV shows.
Citizen Winston do not turn from the television while our messages are being displayed. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Just have to wait for them to stop being ***** about podcasters...
It's always really difficult for podcasters to get around excessively strict copyright laws, and therefore feel like they are walking a tightrope just having a hobby of podcasting...
On the other hand, it's refreshing to listen to a medium that is completely devoid of all the pimp run industry music... - Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I WAS doing this on napster but....
- tdkme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah they seem like they are sinking and are scrambling.
- Pseudorious, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This seems like a well reasoned offer. People can either support it and move in the right direction, or hold previous grudges and encourage Sony to return to its old tactics.
I, for one, will not reject peace out of bitterness from previous wars. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Warning: The Content in this Article is Under Review
I think you'll find the same figures around the time TVs were first introduced... Perhaps not the "podcast" standard, but people will listen to music in a community context. There will continue to be some music "experts" or atleast those with passionate opinions and there will continue to be audiences eager to hear that opinion and hear music suggested by people they respect.
Having recognised that point, my original comment remains that these companies will either relinquish their overbearing control on their media and get rid of this legal tightrope or face extinction. Kid's listen and share music (as they've done since the dawn of time) They already are and will continue to drop major record label's music like a sack of ***** for as long as sony etc choose to lay down the law... - kenz0r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6So the RIAA can sue you and say its infringement of copyright? Gimme a break.
- SalMoriarty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sony has to get their music videos out there somehow. mtv and vh1 have both stopped playing them.
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4So basically someone out there finally realized that if people use their music in their videos or podcasts, and 5 million people watch or download that video or podcast, chances are good several of them will go buy said music. And as such, they effectively get free advertising with no cost whatsoever to the company, and pull in revenue with no additional effort?
Why in the hell would they want that? (Sarcasm there) - lem0ns43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Two words Sony: MAKE ME!
- JosiahQ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yes it's nice to see Sony make a step in the right direction, but it's not irrational for people to still distrust them. It's not as if Sony has a great track record, right?
I'll use this service, but I'll "Forgive & Forget" w/ Sony when I receive my written letter of apology that states how immoral their root kit was and a promise to never do it again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Boycott EVERYTHING Sony!
- 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9No thanks Sony. I don't support rootkits or DRM content. I don't want your products, even if it's free.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sounds like a game of "Monkey In The Middle" if you ask me...
Sony = Right
RIAA = Left
You = Da Monkey in the middle - Aslan72, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I bet people are climbing all over themselves to promote Kelly Clarkson...I hear she's hot among the blogging crowd...hahaha
- rzurad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow. Sony actually doing something I agree with.
- robman30, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2sony can bite my ass i will never buy another sony product that means a ps3 after the crap thay pulled with the root kit.wii or die
- dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I am on a total sony ban, I do longer buy their products, and I don't want anything to do with them!
Write you law makers and ask them to pass a law banning sony products from the USA! - flag8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What's the point of pirating anymore?
- danimal0416, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who is Sony? Every time I'm in a record store and I see that something is a Sony BMG product, I put it back. No thank you very much. I will not buy from Sony BMG. I hereby vote with my pocketbook.
- icexe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3WOW!! a big, huge, mega, media conglomerate really, really cares about little old me!!! oh, there's so much love. Thank you SONY. I'm going to run out and buy all your products now....after I puke....
- evolvedlight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Man, Diggs got invaded by the 13yr olds that actually think that a corparation like Sony can be "evil". They still don't know that you can't just believe all the stuff that gets written on the internet. Wow! A big blogger on digg says Sony is bad. He must be right! Sony is evil!
But I would like it to work with Linux too... had to boot up into Windows to watch these treats! Go Ben Folds! - evolvedlight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, a while ago I read a guide on how to extract these videos using a VLC and some other tool. Anybody still got it?
S - zimm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and i want both sony and bloggers to vanish from the planet..
and yet nobody cares what i want. just like nobody cares what sony wants. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Silly like infecting your CDs with a rootkit and assuming that people wouldn't find out?
Or silly like removing the rumble from your controller and making up some ***** about it interfering with motion sensing?
Or silly like expecting people to get a 2nd job just to pay for a PS3?
The list goes on and on! - evolvedlight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok. Have found the tool, URL Snooper, its on DonationCoder. (google it). You can then copy and paste the stream into VLC but I can only pirate the music so far :-(
S - CarzorStelatis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Digg is not a promotional vehicle for virus writers. Reported as lame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony can bite me on my shiny metal ass.
