- kellan6, on 01/24/2009, -2/+103who didnt know this? I think everyone hears at least one song and remembers exactly what they were doing when they were listening to it.
- Berkana, on 01/24/2009, -2/+25They had to do a study to know this? Are they going to have to do a study to show that the sky is blue or that people need to breathe air to live?
- poidh, on 01/24/2009, -1/+21The head researcher was called Prof. T Obvious.
- lovemorgul, on 01/24/2009, -2/+12Most people have this idea that music can be a powerful memory cue.
- Rabbethan, on 01/24/2009, -1/+10Researchers found? I "discovered" this when I was 3 and my mom went on about the good old days everytime Cyndi Lauper came on.
- Tankslap, on 01/24/2009, -6/+15Or who they were doing, wocka wocka.
- MeatPlow, on 01/24/2009, -0/+8New study shows that eating cures hunger.
- desertDenizen, on 01/24/2009, -0/+8Getting kicked in the nuts causes pain, U.S. researchers found.
- jwalske, on 01/24/2009, -3/+11In other news, smoking causes cancer!
- donte, on 01/24/2009, -0/+7Umm... being re-exposed to ANYTHING from your past will trigger memories. I don't know who is more retarded: the "scientists" that did this study or the people who really seemed to think it was worth funding.
- inactive, on 01/24/2009, -0/+7My first thought was: NO *****.
This kind of studies makes you wonder if you actually need a PhD. - Verble, on 01/24/2009, -5/+12Buried for telling me what I already knew.
- OneHigh, on 01/24/2009, -0/+6In other breaking news... Gravity makes things come down.
- pdileepa, on 01/24/2009, -0/+5These stating-the-obvious researches must stop.
- PhrosTT, on 01/24/2009, -0/+5I love how every comment is NO *****
yet this piece of ***** article is FRONTPAGED!
***** you digg. People with old accounts WHO DIGG SPARINGLY SHOULD HAVE THE MOST SWAY. not the inverse. figure it out. - jordansampson, on 01/24/2009, -0/+4BREAKING: Fire is HOT
* hold hand out and waits for his grant* - deff, on 01/24/2009, -1/+5Are you kidding me? They actually spent the time and money to figure this ***** out? Really?
- quadshock, on 01/24/2009, -1/+4I was going to say "well duhh" but I like your response better
- LeviTheSmith, on 01/24/2009, -0/+3Dear Mama by Tupac was my first CD. Remember listening to it in my room sitting on the floor.
- JustinNoland, on 01/24/2009, -5/+8No *****, sherlock.
Someone's research department has entirely way too much funding. - j0etb, on 01/24/2009, -0/+3Reminds me of your childhood too.
- Wisgary, on 01/24/2009, -0/+3So this is why every time a ***** movie uses the Saw music for their trailer I ***** my pants...
- j0etb, on 01/24/2009, -0/+3Scientists confirm: beating yourself in the face with a brick bloody hurts.
- crispa1970, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2only a temporary cure, though. heheheheh
- unitedstatians, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2I hear certain smellings spark past memories. Like the sweet cinnamon at FAO Schwarz.
- colasrtney, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Fortunate Son always reminds me of Vietnam.
- 15thPD, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2"You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Shot Through The Heart" are actually completely different songs. I know this confuses many people because "You Give Love a Bad Name" contains the phrase "Shot Through The Heart" in the chorus.
The song I'm talking about was released with their first album. You can find the lyrics here: http://www.lyrics007.com/Bon%20Jovi%20&%20Jon% ... - beammeup4, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2listening to "relax" made me want to kill the malaysian prime minister!
good thing I switched it to "rockit"! - 15thPD, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Bon Jovi - Shot Through The Heart. Reminds me of sitting in my dad's old beat up '76 ford, with the rusted out floorboard, on a very cold christmas morning in the middle of a snowstorm.
Forever & Ever, Amen, by Randy Travis. The song me and my wife danced to at our wedding reception.
Marty Robbins - El Paso. The song playing in the background as my grandfather drove me home after a full day of fishing and playing 8-ball when I was a kid. It was the best time I ever had with him, one of the few times. I believe this was his favorite song.
I'm sure I could think of more, but these are the closest to my heart (that I can think of at the moment.) - Geist89, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Interesting theory. Whenever I hear specific melodies in some favorite songs of mine I am reminded of a certain event that correlated with that song. Pavlov would be proud.
- Ghengis, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2So, someone wasted money researching something that we all already new and/or experienced. Great. "What economy?"
- anilmmn, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2DUH!! It amazes me the stupid stuff that is researched.
- Mujokan, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2The only non-obvious bit seemed to be that it didn't matter if you actually heard the song, or you were prompted into thinking of it, and that triggered the memory.
For me it's mostly songs from my high-school days. Sometimes specific incidents, sometimes just an indescribable "atmosphere" -- not even sure what to call it. - Enisity, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Duh.......
- cran, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Well! No *****!
- lesosso, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2in fact the sky is not blue!
- camg188, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1News Flash
Sentences begining with the words "Do you remember when..." can cue vivid memories of the past. - downneck, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1no *****, sherlock.
buried. - gnixon70, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1In other news, study finds people need oxygen in order to breath. Seriously, they needed to conduct a study on this?
- j0etb, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1True. I used to listen to the original album on my paper round, which incidentally is what that song reminds me of.
Happy times. - maqikelefant, on 01/25/2009, -0/+1Well no *****.
- charmedguy18, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Duh?
- siwasher, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1I wonder how many of those whose comments can be summed by by "duh" actually read the article, as opposed to the headline, which misstates the study's conclusion. The conclusion was not that songs trigger specific memories, but that just thinking about a song triggered memories to the same extent that actually hearing the song played did. Maybe still not the most earth-shattering conclusion, but not that obvious, either, and a piece of information that has a legit place in psychology. I'm going to do a study to see if reading the article produces more relevant comments than just reading the headline.
- FKnight, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Thank you very much, state funded university, for spending people's hard earned cash to find out crap that everyone already knows.
- judolphin, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Music reminds you of things? This is what passes for research? And a Digg front page story for that matter?
- crispa1970, on 01/25/2009, -0/+1well, apparently you can easily get re-infected with the hunger virus.
- stelman1, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Interesting piece of information. Of course, we all know this, but it is good that we have scientific proof as well.
- dvicklund, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Ahh Barry White... You always did know how to make the ladies sigh...
