- davidhgc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Looks good, but how do you configure a Proxy connection, I guess that is the end of my web testing :-(
- roblord, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Enjoy gents. I'm Rob on the Songbird team. Any questions?
- suuuueee, on 10/23/2007, -0/+0and ladies.
- CB17, on 02/09/2008, -0/+0Hey Rob, I just started testing out songbird and so far so good. I'm excited for a decent alternative to iTunes, having said that, any idea when we'll have some smart playlists or equivalent. Thanks and keep up the good work!
- atariby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1WOOOOOOOO finally a download!
But i cant test it for an hour :(
Blog coming up on http://atariboy.wordpress.com/ - chrishill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4+digg
been waiting for this for a while.
Rob, I know you cant 'legally' include iPod support, and that the development community will probably solve that issue fairly quickly, but what about other devices? Any plans to ape WMP's sync system? I'd rather use songbird to sync up my GoGear rather than WMP.
Nice work, enjoying the POC download as I type. :) - chrishill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1also, the ability to move the minimised player would be useful, its slightly too tall and obscures the menus on alot of the programs I'm using :)
- Coletrickle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0looks promising, but has a long way to go
- d0zy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks Good,
but crashed on me at 1st run
cant wait for version 1.1 - honeycut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0not a dupe - there's a difference between "to be launched" and actually launched.
I didn't think an integrated browser / media player would really grab me but f**k me if I don't love this thing Rob. It makes browsing, previewing and buying music at emusic a breeze. I'm sold mate. - cheese06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0someone give a mini review of the app. not willing to change from winamp atm unless theres a dire reason to switch.
- cheese06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1meh been looking through the screenshots and boy does it look like bloatware. avoiding. im ok with my 350k winamp media player thx.
- timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0anyone got it building under posix systems yet?
- sammmy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Guy I read over at mip's scan wrote about this browser this morning (http://mip.typepad.com/mips_scan/2006/02/songbird_really.html). He seems to think it's great. If you listen to his podcast you can hear how excited he is by this.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1YAAAA!!!!!!!............and now its dead.........(^_^)
- ultramancool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
Digg Pwnz j00 :-) - bosmonster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0You've been officially DUGG
- yihpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3super mini review:
it seems like a sound package so far. I'm having a little difficulty adjusting to the interface, but that's to be expected. Also, a lot of functionality seems to be missing or difficult to use, especially with the web playlists. but it plays my tracks just fine and that's enough for now.
i love the fact that it's tightly integrated with the web. With sites like Pandora and last.fm, the music experience is no longer confined to a single player. If Songbird can successfully encapsulate my entire music experience in a single program, then I'm onboard. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)"

Hm, how about coming up with own ideas instead of just taking iTunes and making it black. - mwales, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anybody know how it compares to Amarok?
I tried out Amarok after seeing someone on digg post about it, and I love it. FoxyTunes + Firefox + Amarok has been a great combo too. Maybe I'll try out Songbird when I get home... - rowan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are there any torrents for the Download? Least we could do after digging them to death...
- barrettg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Rob the site has gone down

- kevinmtu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0thanks
- swazo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks nice,
Looks like it has a lot of potential. I may use it on Linux, but how do you plan on competing with itunes (ie im a sucker for how it organizes my music via ID3 Tags)
Anyway to remove half the ***** in the left pane? talk about ugly. - roblord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh crap. We have been *DUGG*. Um, it's 5am. I'll try to get the site back up soon. Our FAQs will answer most of the current questions. Be back soon...

- Tom | http://www.tomwrote.info - harmoniacal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Someone want to make a torrent? I'm too retarded to figure it out in 10 minutes before I need to leave.
http://isohunt.com/release.php?id=37307 - MattH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Looks like Songbirds server got Diggdotted should have hooked up Akami or just given us the Coral Cache link .....................................Oh Lordy ...........Lord ;)
- chrishill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Wow. Its almost an exact clone of iTunes.
Hey Rob on the Songbird team, arent you guys embarassed about your lack of creativity?
You should spend some more development time on a clue guys."
its a v0.1 release, its still in an almost feotal phase of development. You could have leveled the same argument at firefox when that was first released, since it was, bar a few features, IE. The beauty of songbird is its open source nature, once the development community get their hands on the code I can see it surpassing iTunes easily. - cakesale, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0it freezes when i try open it?
- evil_marty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+03000+ songs and over 70mb of ram used - booyah!!!!
it is in early stages though. Can only get better. Good work to all the guys from songbird!!! - CarLBanks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It doesn't play media files?
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Mirror: http://www.bbhosts.net/files/songbird.php
Not bad, I still prefer MediaMonkey for the time being, although if you could design your program as well as that and release it for free then you'd have my support. MediaMonkey's handling of ID3 tags is flawless, as is it's ability to download missing info from Amazon etc. Embedded iPod and iRiver support is cool, as is support for winamp plugins. - CarLBanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0By media I meant video files.
- brandon20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0looks cool so far. i'll have to test it on my 22k+ songs and let you know how it works. has anyone tried mediamonkey? It's pretty fast to search and uses winamp 2 - style plugins. http://www.mediamonkey.com
Supports ipod and Plays4Sure too. - MattH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Rob you of all peple should know you should have made it availble as a torrent .Maybe you need your buddy's like Justin to mirror it for you .
I hope your are sucessfull I have a developer from a p2p content service looking at Songbird so he can use it for his cross platform clients for Mac and linux . - aqeel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Site gives "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)" I guess too much load on server as it was working fine before this release.
- kongslide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow, I can't believe the closed-mindedness of some of the members, I don't see you trying to make something better. I DIGG the effort and I wish you guys luck!
