http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lbvSBNLLoo - iritegood, on 05/14/2009, -1/+13Andy McKee is plucking awesome.
- ninjacow89, on 05/14/2009, -0/+11Chet Atkins please?
- stevieraveon, on 05/14/2009, -0/+10Stevie Ray Vaughan ripping through Rude Mood on a 12 string.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajpe6OYSq_w - itc518, on 05/13/2009, -1/+8I know a few but definitely some I do not know that are amazing. I am a big fan of Andy McKee though.
- Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+7/agree
+ Tommy Emmanuel, Thomas Leeb and John Butler - ajhops, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6I have more than 15 years of guitar playing under my belt. What I can tell from these guys is this: I focus too much attention on my left hand. The thing they all have in common is immense right hand technique.
- carl25, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5this is one of my favorites, starts off slow but gets much better, also he looks like the guy from stargate atlantis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xZw9D9c18E - bdbr, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5I like their music, but I wouldn't categorize them as "some of the best acoustic guitarists in the world."
- acephreak, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5Andres Segovia?
- Mercedes383, on 05/14/2009, -1/+6Why is that?
- stevieraveon, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5First guy I thought of. Also thought of Michael Hedges
- Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5I went on tour with Andy Mckee and Don Ross for their Irish tour as a roadie and I'd have to say they amount to a lot more than easy listening, they are outstanding guitarists
- sooperskip, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4After watching these, I'm going to feel like a total douchebag the next time I impress myself playing Guitar Hero. Not that I don't usually feel like a douchebag, just more so.
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Yngwie Malmsteen syndrome? Is Michael Bolton going to unleash the ***** fury?
- ecualung, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4A criminal oversight to be sure.
- DrProfessor11, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5Absolutely. I've seen him live and it was amazing. The fact that he's not on this list makes it illegit.
- DiscoUnderpants, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Where is Andrés Segovia?
- asgardshill, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Definitely Chet Atkins. And Doc Watson was no slouch either.
- bossm4n, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4A good list, but if you want to check out a few more greats that I haven't seen anyone mention yet, Dan Crary, Beppe Gambetta, Dave Beegle, Stephen Bennett, Phil Keaggy, Brooks Williams, Tony Rice, and of course Django Reinhardt all belong in that group.
- thebeginning, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4Excellent, excellent work. It's a shame these guys don't get the credit they deserve. It seems the glory usually goes to the flashier rock and metal guitarists.
- Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Tommy Emmanuel should be on there, he has his own festival...
- andypop481, on 05/14/2009, -2/+5No Rodrigo and Gabriela. Are you kidding?
- marcosagostos, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3King and Andy are really impressive. Great List.
I am surprised that Phil Keaggy did not make the list. He is usually regarded as one of the world's best, although he is much older now. He has 4 fingers on his right hand. One of them was cut off in a bike accident as a kid. This isn't his best piece, but here he is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFapjHJeNEo&fea ... - 10ofDiamonds, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3doesn't play anymore, because he's you know....dead. The Didn't include any of his students though, like John Williams or Paco de Lucia.
- RatatRatR, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3I was gonna bury this so fast if Kottke wasn't in there.
- booyahbitch, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3I don't care what anyone says...those are some bad ass guitar playing mofos!
- worldcommander, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4No Rod and Gab?
- murderthegovt, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Yeah I was really disappointed when I didn't see Tommy Emmanuel on that list.
- Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Your comment on me being a roadie made no sence sir..
- Spikington, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3More Tommy Emmanuel
taking such a simple song and making it so much more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZNJf-h7F8s - Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3It just so happens that your just plain wrong...
- beatleman, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Yeah, he's amazing live. I remember before he played Classical Gas, he talked about how he learned it on his own by ear, but was having trouble getting a couple parts of the song to sound right. When he mentioned it to his guitar instructor, he told him the reason it's hard is the part he was playing by himself is usually played by two guitarists. Pretty impressive....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBEbYXa6Cik&fea ... - Elnicko, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3We're all just adding to the list ^^
People might go and search up some new musicians to them from reading the comments :) - philb0t5000, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4Friday Night in San Francisco FTW!
- Shawno1, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Justin King is one of my favorite acoustic players but what about Chet Atkins?
- gettempapa, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Johnny should be at the top of any guitar list.
- adderley, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2+1 for Django. My all time guitar hero.:')
- grandinferno, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2...and John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola as well as Paco De Lucia. HOW CAN THESE THREE BE OMITTED.
;) - trevah, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2You're stupid.
- magikker, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2This list is missing all the bluegrass guys....
Doc Watson
Tony Rice
David Rawlings - adderley, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Exactly. Guitar boogie ought to have been included, but i loved the list nonetheless. ^^ Came across this nugget a few days ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5qakFIecBU Tommy & Shimabukuro. (the parkdwelling ukelelebeatle)
- nairbil, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Tommy Emmanuel, Don Ross, and Antoine Dufour should be on that list...
- kidgentry, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2the sheer limitless possibilities of the guitar never cease to amaze me.
- DrProfessional, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Both of them are good acoustic song writers, while I agree with you on both parts they really have nothing to do with excelling at playing the acoustic guitar, in fact both focus much more on having a very reserved style of playing.
- will2000, on 05/14/2009, -1/+3Missing from the list: James Blackshaw. His fingers pluck cascading notes like clockwork. Kind of unknown and kind of amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCsNrhn41iQ - drastic8, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Logged in just because you stole my comment. Dugg you for it though.
- elfprince13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Buried this list for lack of Phil Keaggy and Brooks Williams.
- kingp43, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2That was cool, thanks for the link, good stuff!
dugg - AcesandEighths, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Lighten up guys, these are just a few of the performers we like, and the list is not meant to slight any one's particular favorite. We tried to stick with non-classical finger-stylists that had a unique sound that we found appealing. We will be doing sections on all submission/suggestions during the rest of the week. Check the home page for new sections later this week.
