Who wants that honey? - sonicHeart, on 01/30/2009, -9/+35Its not the Pumpkins without James Iha
- skywake, on 01/30/2009, -3/+23James was such a small part of what made the Pumpkins. The band was always about Jimmy and Billy. Billy has always been the creative force behind the music (even though he can be a dick) and Jimmy had a Jazz influence that gave them a lot of their distinctive sound. The layered guitar sounds were all James added but you could probably thank Kevin Shields just as much for that part of their sound. Don't believe me? listen to their solo work
The thing that "killed" the Pumpkins was the division and the "selling out". They are only not cool now because they became cool and are thus no-longer cool. Horray for mainstream Alternative music! - MikeyTwit, on 01/30/2009, -5/+23Oh, how the mighty have fallen!
- Jynx97, on 01/30/2009, -1/+15Lately I just can't seem to believe

It meant the world to hold a bruising faith
But now it's just a matter of grace - vilago, on 01/30/2009, -0/+12in the USA a lot of people watch the superbowl just for the commercials. makes no sense right?
- Avaseal, on 01/30/2009, -0/+10Let me out!
- mouraless311, on 01/30/2009, -1/+10Hyundai Ads got released early http://jalopnik.com/5142427/hyundai-super-bowl-com ... If you want to see the commercial.
- doublefelix, on 01/29/2009, -1/+10FOL? Is that an acronym for something they'd have a hard time getting past the FCC?
- 2uantuM, on 01/30/2009, -0/+7That's ***** IMO. Mayonaise is a perfect example of work between Iha and Corgan. And it's one of the pumpkins best, too.
From what I understand, D'Arcy was the only one who could tell Billy to his face what was crap and what was not. - jedinate, on 01/30/2009, -3/+9***** Our Legacy
- Spartacusprime, on 01/30/2009, -2/+8the world is a vampire
- Shakermaker, on 01/30/2009, -4/+10It's not the Smashing pumpkins unless D'Arcy and James Iha are in the band.
Until then it's just Billy Corgan jerking off. - Schmapdi, on 01/30/2009, -0/+6Geesh - Digg haters. If someone calls you up and is like "hey Billy - want a truckload of money and a chance to premiere one of your new songs infront of 10 million people? You'd all turn it down immediately. And of course, no one actually read the article and is ragging on that other big sell out scoring a Hyundai commercial - Yo Yo Ma.
- Avaseal, on 01/30/2009, -1/+7To be honest, I really enjoyed James Iha's solo album. Maybe he isn't the strongest singer in ther world but there really are some good songs on there. I tried to get into Billy's solo work but couldn't stand the whining, and Chamberlin's solo album had no depth to.
Besides, when I hear the "solo's" done by that new guitarist I cringe. He's trying to be like james so bad but doesnt hit the mark.
I've actually been listening to a lot of their live bootlegs lately from the MCIS/Adore era and some songs off of TAFH Box Set. Their Adore live stuff is ***** amazing, and that was when the band was without Jimmy Chamberlin. I saw them live at the Orpheum Theater (Boston) in '98, it was one of the best shows I've ever had the fortune of going to. - rsbryswrrl, on 01/30/2009, -12/+18No, probably just Billy Corgan trying to be cool and mysterious - he'll fail as usual...
- 2uantuM, on 01/30/2009, -1/+6I could care less about who they are and how they act. Their music is the only thing im concerned about.
In my opinion, the new music doesn't have the heart the earlier albums had. - Snoosy, on 01/30/2009, -0/+5Dugg for the first song on one of my favourite albums of all time.
- Methusalah, on 01/30/2009, -1/+5Although Zeitgeist wasn't that great of an album, I still think Billy and Jimmy have what it takes to release another fantastic pumpkins album. They just need to focus less on creating heavy, concert-friendly tunes and release something with the interesting mix of musical styles exhibited by all of their previous albums. IMHO Zwan's Mary Star of the Sea was a fantastic album and I'd really like to see the next pumpkins album come closer to that.
- Methusalah, on 01/30/2009, -2/+6In terms of whiny and pretentious music, the pumpkins have nothing on newer bands like The Killers and Fallout Boy.
- cochonnerie, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4SP used to be a great alt-rock band that had a lot of versatility... but then somewhere between MCIS and Adore they turned into this strange art-rock/goth band... with Billy wearing makeup and looking increasingly more like a 1920's drag queen... and that's when the music became 'difficult' and self-indulgent. Before that the Pumpkins' aimed to pleased, but then after Eye came out (which is a good song), they became about making statements and wanting to change the course of rock music.. and quite frankly it sucked. Fame kind of went to Billy's head I think.
- mcgraths, on 01/30/2009, -2/+6Good on them. All you haters go on hating. The new stuff the Pumpkins have been putting out (If All Goes Wrong and American Gothic) is their best since Adore. I can't wait to hear the new tune. If this is what Billy needs to do to keep making music, it's fine by me!
- vilago, on 01/30/2009, -1/+5you stink. take a shower
- smacksaw, on 01/30/2009, -4/+8Wow. That is just fantastic.
First, Billy invites a fan onstage and makes gay jokes about the guy and now he's selling a Hyundai luxury car?
I hope that when they release the song for RB/GH someday it includes pictures of the Hyundai. - EllenO, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4The haters probably don't know about the new songs made during the tours recently, or the newly finished songs such as 99 floors.
- silverliner, on 01/30/2009, -3/+6I like The Smashing Pumpkins. The music. The old, the new. I'm still into it. Unfortunately, Corgan is an egotistical, pretentious, hypocritical ass. Which is too bad. Chamberlin seems like a really down-to-earth cool guy. If Corgan didn't alienate people with his attitude and blatant aspirations for financial gain, I think people could still appreciate the music they make. I'm actually surprised this made the front page, going by how most diggers seem to feel about SP. Regardless, I am looking forward to the full version of this single. Sounds like it rocks.
- thespiff, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4Thanks sonicHeart! I came to the comments to say just that. Iha is so underrated. I do like their newest album, but the sound just isn't quite right without Iha. Much like Marilyn Manson after Twiggy left.
Really people, how can you toss Iha aside. Think of the guitar lead-in to Today, or Zero, or Cherub Rock. Now try to think of one memorable guitar lick from Zeitgeist. - roflomg, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3You are absolutely right about the Zwan record. It is fantastic. I also liked Zeitgeist. The first two thirds of the album is actually pretty good if you don't go into it making comparisons to the Pumpkins of old. If anything, they are trying just a little *too* hard. They need to loosen it up a bit.
- Greengoo, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3sent to drain
- 2uantuM, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2*couldn't care less :(
- matthewf01, on 01/30/2009, -1/+3Well put, glad there's some fans on here I can't take all the bashing :)
- Pake, on 01/31/2009, -0/+2I enjoyed the albums, but I don't know if I would say they tried a little "too" hard. Personally, I found half the albums lyrics to be complete trash that wouldn't even stand up to the trash Fallout Boy or some other ***** band is producing today. The instruments were great, but the lyrics were too repetitive and lacking of any substance.
- Khiva, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Mayo is indeed transcendent.
And there is an utterly fabulous 45 minute album buried inside of Adore, some of the best music you'll hear, if you have the patience to chop through the garbage. - Methusalah, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2He's just going bald dude so he shaves it so it doesn't look ridiculous.
- prefixmag, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Commercial has been leaked:
http://www.prefixmag.com/media/smashing-pumpkins/f ... - ksgant, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2True that.
- skywake, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Just for the record Adore is probably my favourite Pumpkins album and I wasn't trying to say it was bad when I was comparing it to The Future Embrace (which I didn't like personally). I was just saying that in terms of sound they are very similar in some parts (Pug vs. A100 for example). Just like a lot of stuff was obviously influenced heavily by Jimmy (Lucky 13) in terms of sound.
but hey, I liked Zwan... so what do I know :P - thespiff, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Mayo is my favorite Pumpkins tune also! I thought I was the only one. Hooray for Digg.
- Greengoo, on 01/31/2009, -0/+2Secret Desires? You know if you're going to participate in one of these chain replies you really ought to know the song.
- fugazied, on 01/31/2009, -0/+2Corgan wrote all of those parts, Iha just played them.
- nightmre1225, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Songs not that bad, the intro seemed good but again it doesn't have that Pumpkins feel it's like a whole new band. What really urks me about the new pumpkins is how Billy's voice is being produced and Jimmy's snare drum
- smacksaw, on 01/30/2009, -9/+11If it's like most of his songs it stands for Failure On Lyrics.
- AlanFang, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Tell me all of your secrets
- Philoushka, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2@2uantuM
Mayo is my favorite Pumpkins tune out there. Glad someone else hears the genius in it too. - silverliner, on 02/09/2009, -0/+1I'm not just referring to this song, I am taking their entire career into account, his banter at concerts, his self indulging interviews, etc... The Hour interview was good. I actually watched it a while before writing this comment. It didn't change my opinion.
- getbusyliving, on 02/10/2009, -0/+1Billy Corgan is dead to me
- Remelox, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1The whole reason I watch the Superbowl is for the commercials.
- aerick79, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Bill Hecks, was ***** amazing
- virex21, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1Ugh. Go away, un-creative commenter.
- erkokite, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2Zeitgeist wasn't even that good of an album, let alone great. Wasn't the Pumpkins.
