- neverwhere, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37Yeah. Pointless coincidences that just happen to involve mathematics, musicianship and creativity. Stuff Tool has never been known for in the past. Thanks for playing.

Change your tampon. - umrgregg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34I'm listening to it now, and I can't beleive how cool this sounds. I'll try it on my own when I get home.
Interesting quote:
"Exact sychronization appears in 9:14 of the [mega] track; 9 14=23 viginti tres means 23 in latin. Viginti tres is the 11th track of the album. 11.23--->1,1,2,3-->the fibonacci sequence which tool uses in lateralus." - ArcusOfSV, on 10/12/2007, -12/+40- digg for listeneing to Nickelback
- eridius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31I'm sorry, but anybody who feels that by qualifying themselves as a "long time digger" means their opinion matters more than anybody else's, certainly deserves to be digged down (un-digged? de-digged?)
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30The album has gone platinum already, so someone is listening.
- Rodalli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Yeah...long time Tool fan, and I'll probably get buried for this, but I really don't think this is anything of consequence. Let me explain:
Even if you manage to synch the two songs up so that they hit the same notes around 9:14, everything before that and after Wings for Marie picks up at 6:15 sounds like jumbled crap. So that's 3 minutes of jumbled crap. Furthermore, it's easy to stick Viginti Tres at the beginning of 10,000 Days and say that it's supposed to be there because Viginti is nothing but 5 minutes of neutral/white noise.
Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days (aka Wings for Marie pt. 2) are actually the same song split into two tracks, so of course they're going to share the same rhythms and timing. In fact, the part at 9:14 in 10,000 Days that everyone claims synchs up so mysteriously isn't very mysterious at all. It's the same damn riff and vocals from the end of Wings for Marie, with slightly different wording.
The only thing that seems to give any credibility to all of this, is the fact that Viginti Tres and Wings for Marie's track times add up to be the same as 10,000 Days. If that's the only solid proof anyone has, that could just as easily be coincidental as it could be intentional.
Knowing the kind of attitude the band, and Maynard, has about this cult-like following they have and their interest in sociology, I wouldn't be surprised if this WAS done intentionally. Not as some sort of secret album easter egg, but just to see how much hot air their listeners would blow into the idea that there is a secret easter egg.
Believe what you want but whatever you do don't just mindlessly accept any preconceived truths. - kingofthisnight, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31It involves computers, music, and mixing music on a computer. Sounds like technology to me. Stop defending yourself and save the time typing stuff.
- Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -15/+37Really, really old. Bach did that a few hundred years ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Just my two cents...
Tool make some of the most thought-out music out there, and while it's an acquired taste, it's a whole new world once you get to liking it. They carved out their artistic identity musically (unlike the verse-bridge-chorus cash cows out there). In the way Bjork did her thing, these guys made art with music.
Not everybody likes it of course, just like not everyone liked Picasso. Factor in preference.
This was well-planned, thoroughly thought through, and executed masterfully. Just the way it was done was artful in itself. Then of course, there's the music.
These guys are some of the last few people who treat music as an art, and for that alone they deserve respect. - knellotron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21This is different.
-This is probably intentional, and there are clues to doing this (the track lengths for instance.)
-no pitch shifting, key changes, or editing is necessary. Most mashup artists are wizards at audio editing, because they have to be.
-I've never seen mashups of the same artist using tracks from the same album.
I wouldn't even call this a mash-up, because it completely lacks that culture jamming mythos that mash-ups thrive on. - Stonekeeper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I found this interesting on the comments page:
exactly sychronization appears in 9:14 of the track, cause 9+14=23(number of synchronism)..viginti tres means 23 in latin.viginti tres is the 11th track of the album.result: 11.23--->1,1,2,3-->the fibonacci sequence which tool uses in lateralus. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I bet you can do the same with their videos. Whichever way you splice and dice them together, you'll end up with an ugly doll walking around for 4 minutes.
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21@micro23
Long time digger huh? According to your profile, Brian, you joined three months ago and have only dugg 15 stories. - _Caboose_, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19If you don't like Tool, then why are reading this story? And what are you going to do when digg opens up in the coming weeks, when there will be TONS of stuff you don't like?
You might want to try respecting other's opinions, instead of forcing your own down our throats. - twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@kekasd:
If you think that Tool makes one song over and over on an album then you have never listened to them. - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Another mirror:

i believe "buried" would be the appropriate term... - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Did he use Audacity as well?
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think the comment system is working excellently. It's just that there are more stupid people on digg now.
- comrademikhail, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Ok, so you don't like Tool. Other people do. Quit being a dick.
- comrademikhail, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Have you actually heard it?? The songs fit together perfectly (especially when it starts getting to 9:30) and was probably meant to be fit together like this by the artist. I would have never found this out on my own, so I'm glad somebody posted it on Digg.
- roastedbagel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Has anyone else noticed how almost every comment in this has been modded down?
- neverwhere, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Seems there are a great deal of not only non-Tool fans (which if you like them or not is irrelevant - no one should force you to be a fan for your opinion) but closed-minded non-musicians who have voiced their opinion here regardless. It's not apparent to some that the band is heavily rooted in mathematics, space, philosophy, psychology, mysticism, etc, ad nauseum. To simply cast something like this off as an unintentional "mash-up" (which indeed shows some people have been bitten by the bastard pop phenomenon too much) shows a lack of imagination. The band does not lend it self to many "coincidences" and a previous look at their past work and art supports this. If it's not in your taste, then so be it, but one's paltry attempts at debunking it as meaningless are pointless and worthlessly vented.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+22Once again I am destined to be the buried bad guy:
There's nothing really that amazing about three songs on one album with identical BPM and in the same key. I really dont think this was done on purpose by Maynard or anyone else involved, and is along the same lines (though not nearly as amazing) as the happy coincidence involving Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz. - david76, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18An mp3 I found of the remix:
http://www.snoopy.force9.co.uk/10000_Days_Secret_Megamix.mp3 - mygaffy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16it must be the RIAA, quick hide!
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I think The Flaming Lips did something like this awhile ago. They used 4 CDs separate that could be combined in different ways to make different albums. It was pretty cool back then. This will be cool to try too.
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21I'm not exactly a Tool fan, but I am glad to see musicians pushing the envelope with something this unique!
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Yes it is annoying but just shrug it off its people who have to much time on their hands... Just dont take it personally if you are buried :/ As this will probably be also

- heavyness, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12this works. heard about this a couple of days ago. it does sound like 1 big song. i guess if you look at the pictures in the cd jacket, they have clues for this.
any which way, the new album is classic and one of their best. - mygaffy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11its making my dog freak out :-P
- wingerspoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8if everyone seems to think that its all stupid and worthless why does it have so many diggs?
- windex99, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Yes, i've never seen anything like that, in years, on this site. Every point of view is getting buried. I think it's time to find a new website.
- plnegative1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7no, it's not
- twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I think it has more to do with the fact that a lot of the comments are "this is so cool" which really doesn't add anything to the thread and just wastes space.
- neo17262, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This first mirror at this point seems swamped, the second one is okay, and here is a third:
http://64mhz.com/mirror/10000_Days_Secret_Megamix.mp3 - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You serious? With what pieces?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7no -- bach just happened to write songs that sounded amazingly similar as a result of using the same formulas over and over.
any resemblence between his songs (including something that might resemble the topic of this post) is coincidental, and not intentional. - twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@paulringo:
Why does everything have to be new? It's not something that you come across everyday so I think this is the perfect place to report it. It's an interesting find that a lot of people will go out and try now. What is so wrong with that? - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8so, you're saying "dupe"?

password: bugmenot - stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't think anyone is attempting to justify Tool artistically based on the number of albums sold. What was said is that we know plenty of people listen to Tool based on the number of albums sold, the number of Tool t-shirts we see people wearing in public, and the number of people who dugg this story.
While we are talking about it:
Sure, Nsync sold millions of albums, but they did it with the benefit of constant radio play and videos on MTV. Tool, on the other hand, don't have songs playing constantly on the radio. Most stations consider a 7 minute running time too long for a single, and Tool refuse to release radio edits. Does this mean Tool is better than Nsync? No, though I'd sure as hell never claim Nsync and I'll gladly claim Tool. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8What?
- taosd, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I'm gonna get bitched at for this, but... This explains why this album has such little variation. I think its definatly neat, but, this album was so boring, I was very disappointed. Some tracks (most notably Rosetta Stoned) just go on and on and on, which would be okay if they were adding something as they went, but its just the same old 4 minutes of music repeated... 10,000 days is like the hard parts of Lateralus, but stretched out.

What is Digg?
