- brutusx, on 02/23/2008, -2/+56First you better call COMCAST and ask if you're allowed to download this.
- robotosaurus, on 02/23/2008, -1/+42Comcast: No.
- ep53, on 02/23/2008, -1/+22***** THE RIAA!!!! *Its totally relevant*
- jo3design, on 02/23/2008, -1/+20okay, so for the curious... don't click on the tinyurl link above. Why? In a nutshell, you're going to get "rick roll'd".
What does this mean? The instant you click on the link (at least in firefox, it opened up in a new tab):
1. Horrible music comes on.
2. The window resizes itself and jumps from corner to corner of your screen approximately 8 times.
3. When trying to close the window, a javascript prompt comes up, jumping from one alert to the next... I didn't count (just held the ESC button), but I'm guessing it's around 40-60 alerts right after the next.
4. I tried AdBlockPlus-ing all the content on the page and trying to close the tab; reference number 3.
5. After submitting this comment, I am force-quitting firefox.
6. I am casting a spell on zhuk for having such a horrible sense of humor.
7. I am writing a redirect script to above link on my blog and setting my preferred list to people I dislike and sending them a link.
So yeah, don't click on the link. You probably will anyway. - PHovey, on 02/23/2008, -2/+213.5GB of free music = not bad at all
- robotosaurus, on 02/23/2008, -1/+20Some people enjoy directly supporting artists by cutting out the middleman, and any organization offering decent-quality free music shows an adapting growth in new market values for music and the influence of the Internet.
- domokunt, on 02/23/2008, -0/+18yes I go to live shows :p
- colto, on 02/23/2008, -1/+12Douche alert...
- 501337, on 02/23/2008, -15/+25Why are people getting excited over free music? Are there people who still pay for music?
- emackn, on 02/23/2008, -1/+10This is so sweet.. thank you for taking the time to put this together
- crzdmn, on 02/23/2008, -1/+10Dude so get friggen uploading people, i'm pushing 200kb/s up and can only get a 30kb/s down in return?
- adamlaz2, on 02/23/2008, -1/+9Anyone want to post a .txt version of the .torrent?
I'm on the college's internet and the .torrent extension is blocked :'( - poppacherry, on 02/23/2008, -3/+10yes i pay for cds still. i have well over 1000 albums from all sorts of artists, catagorized on my book shelfs by name of artist and albums of theirs in chronological order. i think itunes downloads suck.
two :reasons why i dont like downloading music legally/illegally: 1. im a sound engineer. the CD sampling rate and less data compression allows for a superior listening experience. 2. i like to support the bands i buy from and dig the covor art and CD sleeves - inactive, on 02/23/2008, -3/+9I think that call should be to cancel Comcrap...
- b3mus3d, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4This torrent is legally free. It supports the artists by helping them gain recognition.
- Ravatar, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4OMG marketing in which we receive a free sample product? HOW TERRIBLE.
- paker, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Good for you! Glad to see there are people that buy and support the $.07 the artist makes per CD.
- Ravatar, on 02/23/2008, -1/+5Pay the same price for 4mb vs 15mb? You're right that does sound smart.
- seastobble, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1fPG8TuBhY
- Ravatar, on 02/23/2008, -1/+4Um ok, what about those of us in the midwest and have no choice but comcast or AT&T?
--digg. - AzureRise, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3I'll definitely take a look at this. Everyone seed!
- theysayjump, on 02/23/2008, -4/+7Although this one was submitted first, there's already another on the front page:
http://digg.com/software/SXSW_2008_on_BitTorrent_3 ... - modsuperstar, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Pretty much everything. I downloaded last year's torrent and it's definitely a mixed bag. There is lots of rock, country, folk, hip-hop, electronic you name it. It's pretty cool. I still get surprised by songs in my playlist that just pop up that I had no idea about.
- SteveColebourne, on 02/23/2008, -1/+4It's a victim of its own size, really... clearly whoever compiled it cannot know every artists music inside out, and thus just chose some arbitrary track - there are a few there which I feel aren't the artists best work - and no doubt there are better songs by the plethora of artists in there that I haven't heard of.
It would've been brilliant to be able to share the cream of the artists collection.
Still a pretty awesome torrent, and will no doubt lead to many people discovering much new music - kudos to the submitter. - chedabob, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3http://pastebin.com/m126401f5
- giloron, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Looks to be a pretty wide range. Listened to the few that had completed and one was an Arabian orchestra and a couple rock.
- stonebone4, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2Some people (like myself) use things like this to pick up on new bands to buy material from. I've bought more albums from bands I've discovered in sample downloads/emusic/other places on the internet/friends (a lot) than I have bands I've discovered on the radio (probably close to zero). I see what you're saying though, it is important to support independent artists since they don't get everything handed to them by advertisers and out-of-touch record execs.
- solidus636, on 02/23/2008, -1/+3What genre of music is on this torrent?
- Ghiren, on 02/23/2008, -0/+24 years worth of torrents? 2.6-3GB each? You'd better make some room! That's a lot of free tunes, might even last you until next year's SXSW.
- Ksg89, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Internet sucks, no matter how much i wanna push up i can only do 40kB/s
- quiksliver, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2stupid question- is this the live version or just a studio version song of each artist that played?
- solidus636, on 02/23/2008, -2/+4uhh AT&T...
- Inferny, on 02/23/2008, -1/+3Better use 7, you know, just to make sure.
- insanebrain, on 02/23/2008, -1/+3fix your portforwarding . . dummy.
- Bonekhan, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Is your Digg name a reference to Radiohead, or just ironic?
- stonebone4, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2I've heard a couple live ones, mostly studio so far.
- TheWindBlows, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Its always relevant.
- nukage, on 02/23/2008, -2/+4thanks! not going to SXSW this year, this doesnt make up for that but still pretty amazing amount of music to be able to get free and legally.
- ronocdh, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1I cannot believe how horrible that website is. You just ruined my day with that nonsense.
- bobthegreat1224, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1*gags on foot in mouth*
I guess I could try to recoil by saying something about still supporting the artists, but I look bad enough as it is. Forgive me. - solidus636, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1At least you aren't throttled for bittorrenting...
- funkytaco, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Well, if I was going to spend $500 for an SXSW fest ticket, I'd better get a sample of the music!
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1The biggest bittorrent site is RPB dumbass.
BTW, your site sucks. - climbon321, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1Yes, but only because you can't download vinyl
- kroatoan13, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1You are an idiot. If you actually listen to SXSW you would realize that it represents every genre of music from country to metal. Yes, many popular mainstream bands have played there. I've heard jazz, country, metal, death metal, nu rock, electronic, shoegaze, ska, folk, hip-hop, rock, alternative, crocodile rock, cabaret, latin jazz, progressive rock, punk, experimental, the list goes on and on. It's all in one torrent and you are an enormous douchebag.
- pooptaster, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1For future reference:
http://txtor.dwerg.net/ - TwoSidedMan, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1You can't find Blood Duster because they suck. What, are you thirteen years old?
- johnnyrotten, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Um, I believe I read in the past that the selections are from the submitters, so it's a self-selected compilation.
- funkytaco, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1http://avidphoto.net/
I have pics of one of the bands (Anna Kramer & The Lost Cause) from local Atlanta shows at my website. She works at Aurora Coffee next to Criminal Records. - CCB0x45, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1I logged in to say thank you for that, I love WKUK and hadn't seen that, that is probably their funniest song.
